  • Ooh nooooo, this ^^^^^ is not sensible. I used to work to deficits and as soon as I reached my target weight and relaxed a little it all started piling back on. Plus you only feel full because you have trained your body to survive on minimal nutrition. It will catch up with you at some point. It's not safe and any doctor…
  • I am on around 1200 calories a day and feel absolutely fine. I have lowered my carb intake but not cut it out completely- just restricting breads, pastas, rice, potatoes etc so they are not a fundamental part of every meal. For dinner tonight I will be eating two fresh tuna steaks (well, cooked from frozen, but you know…
  • This is very interesting. I often struggle to eat in the morning (just not hungry) and very often I struggle to make the full 1200 calories in one day. In the past I have not eaten back exercise calories either, and it worked for me with no ill effects. Replying really to keep this topic current on my profile so I can keep…
  • I got up to well over 100 friends at one point and they were all active users. I try to encourage and congratulate them all when they post or update because that's kind of the point of this community. But it got exhausting trying to keep up with it all, and it was taking a couple of hours every day which was then eating…
  • LOVE this. I'll be grading my weight loss by this list from now on
  • Sounds like your Mom has a serious case of 'sour grapes'! Stick with it because you're doing really well. And you know deep down that those 10lb DO make a difference, and so will the next 10, and so on. Good luck and stick with this site for real support x
  • Yep! You two make a really cute couple :)
  • I did the same thing. Lost heaps of weight up to and including our wedding in September, then just stopped. I've put some back on again but I'm back now and I have reset my goals! I have added you if that's OK. let's do this together :)
  • That's amazing! Well done. In the past I have squeezed into wellies, and they were so tight they would 'suction' themselves on to my legs and need some serious prising off afterwards. I'm looking forward to wearing them this winter, hopefully with fewer problems
  • It's my understanding that 'mentally handicapped' is still a perfectly acceptable term in the US. I also work with people with disabilities for an international company (I am based in the UK) and I am very aware that the terminology from one location to the other is markedly different.
  • Most are OK so long as you eat them in moderation and as part of a balanced diet. Most of the food I eat is low in sodium or sodium free, and also very low carb, so I can have them a couple of times a week and still lose weight relatively easily. Morrisons do AMAZING low cal ready meals. Their Chilli with Wedges is lush…
  • Are you eating the right combinations? If you eat a lot of carbs that will make you feel more full. Perhaps by tweaking what you eat you might manage more?
  • I did the same as Seadog and just tweaked my carb and protein ratios a little whilst still watching those calories. Worked for me and is giving me a more balanced diet which I am very comfortable doing.
  • Hi All I can say is I recently started jogging in the gym, and tried to do it every day- and ended up with shin splints! Apparently because although I am a walker, jogging uses different muscles and I tried to do too much, too soon. Thankfully I stopped as soon as the pain started and have been resting so I am hoping to…
  • 3kg is a lot of weight to lose in a little over a week. I think you need to be realistic and aim to lose whatever you can but make sure you do it healthily. If it is that important to make a good impression then go for a body wrap, which can take a couple of inches off instantly and lasts several days. I have to say though…
  • Can I just say what a lovely post that was from Gilbrod? So sweet. I think it's true because I eat roughly the same calories as my other half but have to work harder in the gym (burn more calories) to see similar weight loss results.
  • I dress for ME  If I think I look nice, I am much happier and more confident. But I don't mind what anyone else thinks!
  • I totally agree with Kelika71. I have tweaked my proportions so my diet is high in protein and fresh fruit and veg- my carb/fat/protein ratio is the same as Kelika71. My carb count is low but I haven't cut carbs out completely. I have cut out bread and pasta but I stil eat small portions of rice or cous cous and I get the…
  • Great tips! Thank you :)
  • Water! I'm drinking between two and three litres a day, and it works. It also curbs your appetite a little. Somwtimes you might think you're hungry but you're actually thirsty.
  • According to his widow and associates he followed his own plan religiously for 43 years. But he also had a history of heart problems, clogged arteries and hypertension, and was overweight when he died (even before the 'bloating' whilst he lay in a coma, which it is claimed tipped him into the 'obese' category). What I…
  • I was always under the impression that Atkins got a bad rep becaus Dr Atkins himself was in such bad shape when he died...dependng on which side of the story you believe anyway.
  • Does your gym offer fitness classes? I can't live without mine now and they'e included in the cost of the membership. I find they're great because you get much more variation and some really good cardio. Also I will alwasy try to get there up to an hour early and jog, row, use the steppers etc just to burnmore calories.…
  • I would agree with those who are saying not to eat those exercise calories back religiously. I've been doing this for 7 months now and have yet to reach 'starvation mode'. Maybe I'll have to be a bit more careful when I approach my target weight but so long as I still have stones to lose and not just pounds, this approach…
  • Totally agree with the above- I aim for a minimum 1200 calories a day but then don't generally eat back any extras gained through exercise. What I do eat is a protein-rich mix and includes limited carbs and low fat. Lots of fruit, salad and veg, so I know it's a good diet. I believe this tactic works best the…
