Because we don't retain water like you ladies do. Also, because most of us don't have boobs either. It's tough being a woman. I repsect women sooooooooo much more since I've seen my wife give birth 2 times, and work her @ss off to look fit again. God bless you ladies.

I've read this is a myth, but I disagree. I've seen it happen. I think it's because a man's body is naturally more muscular and more muscle promotes more fat burn.
  • Like rfcollins33 says. More muscle causes the metabolism to be a bit higher in men.

It's not true. I know to many people who this is not true for.

As a woman, I do not find this to be good news.

Can I just say what a lovely post that was from Gilbrod? So sweet.

I think it's true because I eat roughly the same calories as my other half but have to work harder in the gym (burn more calories) to see similar weight loss results.

    testosterone

I could be wrong, but as far as I interpreted it testosterone only increase the ability to gain muscle mass (which can in turn increase BMR). If elevated testosterone directly caused weight loss, then women with elevated testosterone would find it easier to shed weight - PCOS is a condition where you can have excess testosterone (as a woman) and one of the symptoms of PCOS is weight gain.

Yeah.. I totally agree with you. PCOS people gain weight easily.

    1) A 250 pound man who loses 10 pounds is equivalent to a 150 pound woman losing 6 pounds. So comparing those two, it is easier for the man to lose 10 pounds than for the woman to lose 10 pounds. By example, I know a woman who has lost about the same weight as me; she has had to work out longer and diet longer than I have to lose the same weight. But I started at 232, she at 175. Her weight loss by total pounds is about equal to mine, but she lost more weight by percentage and is now closer to her ideal weight than I am.

    2) Women have less room for error in their dieting - a woman on a 1200 calorie diet simply has a greater impact from a 500 calorie excess (3 beers, for example) than a man on a 2200 calorie diet.

So when you try to compare a woman's weight loss to a man's, keep in mind that the general size difference between the two makes comparisons sometimes deceiving.
