  • Question: I need to learn more about the program/group, essentially HOW to do the steps- and HOW to get to the places I saw people in the other night. I know I'll get more in meetings, but for now what book should I start with?
  • Woo hoo! I really enjoyed the first meeting, definitely going to another asap. Definitely going to be a challenge to fit it in, working 2 jobs- working out- family time...but it's so important. I think the most shocking thing I heard? It's not a weight loss program. I honestly had never thought about it like that, but it's…
  • New here...going to my first OA meeting tonight. I know AA, so I kinda get the program, but not sure. I'm excited to have a change.
  • I just sent a friend request...At the moment I'm hoping to lose another 17 lbs for a total of the first 20. Then I tackle the rest of it.
  • Well, I'm not 50 ( I'm close 43) but I feel like I can be among friends here when I ask about weight loss ( or lack there of) and peri-menopause? Is it even possible? Been working it hard for over a month and have lost a whole 3.5 lbs. Usually goes much faster when I workout as much/hard as I am. I fear I need to pull up…
  • Sacramento~ friend me if you'd like~
  • YES!!! My friends don't post enough and my home page is nothing but me talking to myself like a fool!!
  • This is actually an interesting thread...the birth of a gym! I don't suppose you are blogging your experiences thus far? It would be fascinating to see how much work goes into starting a gym...
  • Yep. me too. I wear shirts long enough to cover my waist/butt area so I can kid myself into thinking I don't look so bad. I have never found a pair of shorts that ever worked for me. In my running/training groups, it was rare for women to wear anything else, regardless of size, so it's a common problem.
  • Great ideas given so far... -A simple touch- my gym just started offering big containers of wet sani wipes in their own holder for wiping down equipment. I like this since it seems more people wipe down when they don't need to bother to spray a paper towel. -It used to be every week, but now I think only ever so often they…
  • Oh I'm glad I found this group! I have a long story, but in a nutshell: I'm raising my stepdaughter(13). Her nightmare of a mother is generally not around, her dad ( my husband) is present everyday, but kinda clueless on teens, girls, health, etc... So I'm stepping it up huge with lots of effort in getting us both…
  • I don't even have the reasoning of having a child...I just eat. Emotional eater right here...any old reason will do. Neighbors second cousin get promoted? Celebrate with pie! co-workers goldfish die? Sympathize with pie! I've been working on that for years and still no closer to fixing that. Sigh. :#
  • I'm IN!! Please add me...Thanks! B)
  • I am doing this with her 100%-working out with her, making it as much of a team effort as I can. My husband...that's another story. I'm working on getting him onboard with his own eating habits ( at least at home). We actually do a lot as a family, we do bike riding, kayaking, play games a lot, movies/drive ins, beach…
  • Oh Lord can I relate to this one!! My office kitchen right now has Cheese pastries, chocolate chip cookies, oatmeal raisin cookies, white chocolate cookies, breakfast tarts, double stuff oreos, Magnum ice cream bars, nutty sundae bars, brownie bites, bagels and a variety of cream cheeses. Pretty much like that everyday.…
  • I started having some bad sciatic pain about 2 yrs ago...almost to the point where it would make my legs 'freeze' up or something and they wouldn't work 'right' for short moments. I had already signed up for a walk/running program and was nervous about starting it. I heard everything from ' any more exercise and you wont…
  • I don't know if this is for everyone, but I know I get a certain 'race day adrenaline' going and I'm always faster than my training runs. I think it's a combination of excitment, a sort of 'pressure' on myself to keep up with other runners, etc. I'm not exactly sure what it is, but it happens everytime. Even races I'm not…
  • I hate 'selling' stores, but as someone mentioned Fleet Feet, I'll add my 2 cents. Many Fleet Feet stores have what they call No Boundaries running program. I started a year ago, not being able to really run, and now I'm training for a half marathon. It's an AWESOME program. I literally learned to run! Thought I knew how,…
  • LOL! Yes...I drink more water...it has to come out sometime. Not to mention flushing toxins, often times less sodium in better eating can lead to less retention of water. It's all good.
  • This is a hard call....and completely an individual decision. It truly depends on how open of a person you are, how comfortable in sharing you are, how much you want to share, ( i/e general 'healthy eating' or specific numbers to lose, etc) and the people around you. My only advice would be to tread very very gently. I've…
  • me too me too me too!!!! I started on awhie back and got sick so I never finished it.
  • Can't ad much to what others have said...I agree with walking and swimming and water aerobics. But I'm also going to add this: Don't let a larger size body stop you from trying new things. If you belong to a gym, check out the classes. Most, if not all of them will have adaptations for those who cannot do the same moves as…
  • I often joke that I'd rather workout without my legs than my Polar F6. I tend to lie to myself about how hard I workout. But looking at the % of my heart rate, I know where I should be at what level, so I always know if I need to wrok harder or not. I also play 'games' with it. Like trying to burn 10 calories a minute for…
  • ...and the time is going to pass anyway, so what to do with it??
  • I'd rather without w/o my legs than w/o music...seriously! Music motivates, distracts, and pumps me up!! Today I listened to Def Leppard- I also just got a CD set called Freestyle Explosion on Amazon- lots of really old-dance type music ( 80's?) Good stuff though. I also have a few songs of 'cardio classics' basically…
  • Thanks all....from what I've learned, my body WILL adjust, I guess it's fairly normal when working exceptionally hard... I just can't believe it. About a month prior to the challenge starting, I've been working my *kitten* of trying to get my stamina level up and last night it felt like I've been on the couch for 6…
  • My Gym is California Family Fitness...I love it. they have everything imaginable and it's won Sacramento's Best for 12 years!! The programs offered are a ton-- Lots of locations, tons of classes, childcare, personal training, swimming lessons, and special 'sessions' like Body Fit Challenge- doing that now, just started (…

  • I learned in Nutrition class in college ( U of Poo) that it's ideal to have 'footlong floaters' Not literally a footlong, more of just a catchy name, but the footlong floater indicated that there's ample fiber in the diet. If ya take an occassional glance at the finished product in the toilet, it's a good idea to guage…
  • Hi JR, Well I'm not EXACTLY 50-something, but according to some real age online health test, I'm way beyond that at age 38.
