  • Quite some time ago I know (son is 27!), my doctor told me I needed to lose weight and gave me a diet to follow. I was successfully breast feeding, then my son was constantly hungry and wanted to nurse all the time. My health visitor was appalled at the doctor's advice, she said I was not eating enough to sustain my son…
  • Dried fruit is higher in calories, but can sometimes satisfy a sweet craving more. Apricots, dates, raisins, prunes, apple, avoid any with added sugar though, the natural sugars are intensified enough with drying. Put out a portion, don't sit with the bag next to you
  • My daughter is giving up alcohol, she's at uni, so although not an addict, she does get through a number of drinks a week. I said I'll join her, I usually have a small glass of red wine with dinner. There isn't anything else I have on a regular basis.
  • Chilli beans and rice. I use 2 cans kidney beans, one tin tomatoes, small chopped onion (spray with oil and sweat on low heat with the lid on), crushed garlic, commercial chilli powder (contains chilli, cumin and paprika) and a couple of beef stock cubes. If you want meat use lean minced beef. Use myfitnesspal to work out…
  • When I've had a bad day I've decided to put it in the past and move on. It can't be changed, but it isn't the end of the world either. I used to try to 'catch up' by eating less than I should, but then I'd get too hungry, and over do it again, so it didn't work.
  • Walnuts are supposed to be one of the best due to the omega 3 fatty acids, but nuts are high calorie, and for myself I find it hard to limit the portion size unless I put them in a salad or other meal.
  • Although I know the first loss is due to water, it is still weight I am not carrying around any more, and its great motivation to see the scales go down. The trick is to keep going even if sometimes those scales stay the same.
  • I've decided to just watch what I eat, log everything and set a realistic weight loss. I found as I'm short my calorie requirement a day, without extra exercise is set at 1200. At that level I can only expect to loose 1.5 lbs a week. That in itself is worth knowing, I've often got disallusioned when I haven't lost at least…
  • I didn't see this before, but my goal was to go to the allotment for a couple of hours. I spent 3.5 hours there, but only logged 2 hours as exercise, as I chatted to a couple of people and wasn't working solid. I planted some field beans and mustard as green manure, cleared the tomatoes out of the polytunnel, dug over a…
  • Sourdough starter and a sourdough 'sponge' (I make my own sourdough bread). Assorted jams and chutneys (again I make my own, rarely eat them though). Loads of veg and salad. Skimmed and full cream (son drinks this) milk. Free range eggs from my chickens. Opened packet of bratwurst (looked these up, don't think I'll be…
