  • I know you've had two more weeks, but those are better results than I've ever seen with a 30 day shred. Thanks for posting and supporting the argument to lift heavy.
  • one last bump
  • I figured I'd eventually need to get a bar. But it's at least nice to know I can get started with variations. Thanks!
  • I'm not sure if this is against the rules or anything, but I have a very lightly used FT7 that I'd be happy to part with. Send me a message if you're interested.
  • I started with this. It's pretty simple, but you'll be surprised at how difficult it is at first. I couldn't even make it through one round the first time I did it. http://nerdfitness.com/blog/2009/12/09/beginner-body-weight-workout-burn-fat-build-muscle/ Basic overview: 20 body weight squats 10 push ups 20 walking lunges…
  • Try one or two rounds of this: http://nerdfitness.com/blog/2009/12/09/beginner-body-weight-workout-burn-fat-build-muscle/ Basic overview: 20 body weight squats 10 push ups 20 walking lunges 10 dumbbell rows (using a gallon milk jug) 15 second plank 30 Jumping Jacks I bump my planks up to 30 seconds at least.
  • @RachelSNO Have you ever done Crossfit or are you speaking from research you've done? I'm just curious.
  • How tall are you? You don't look 323 in that first pic. I'm guessing you're a tall guy.
  • Reading the subject made me think of this article: http://nerdfitness.com/blog/2011/07/21/meet-staci-your-new-powerlifting-super-hero/ Maybe that will be inspirational, maybe not. I just thought I'd share.
  • If you're eating a healthy diet, where are you getting "ridiculous amounts of sodium"?
  • Just so I understand you, are you saying that drinking more water is necessary for the weight loss process? And does that mean once you hit your target weight you can back off the water consumption? I'm not saying you're wrong, I just want to make sure I understand.
  • Right, the article is sort of assuming that a healthy diet is in place. This obviously would work for someone living off of fast food. But those people usually aren't worried about getting enough water. I know, I used to be one.
  • Yeah, in order for the handhelds to be close to accurate you're supposed to do them at the exact same time during the day as other measurements and the instructions often want you to hold them a certain way. There may also be setting that need to be changed for your specific body. When you just pick one up in the gym…
  • I'm on my third week of paleo and I'm feeling better than ever. The first two weeks had moments of withdrawals but I stuck with it and I'm reaping the rewards now. Nerdfitness.com got me into it but through that I found marksdailyapple.com. There's also nomnompaleo.com which is an awesome paleo blog with tons of recipes.…

  • Here's an interesting article on the subject. Give it a read if you have some time. http://nerdfitness.com/blog/2009/10/28/can-diet-coke-make-you-fat/
  • May be more for the guys, but this one gets me excited to work out. http://vimeo.com/27933991
  • I didn't intend for the article to mean that all cardio is bad. I was just trying to point out that it's probably not as great as the general public thinks. I sort of get the feeling that not many people read the article though. That's okay. It's pretty long and indepth. I just thought it would be nice to get some opinions…
  • I happened to come across this today and thought it was an interesting watch/read. He says don't waste your time with stretching or ice. Check it out. Maybe it will help. I haven't tried it though. http://zero-drop.com/?p=3435
  • Yeah, I flipped past it last night and was amazed. Those guys are nuts (in a good way).
  • Yup, that thought had definitely crossed my mind. I'll probably look into compression shorts, or shorts like the first ones mentioned that have the compression short built in. Thanks for the response.
  • bump for more answers
  • Thanks for the reply. I'll look into those. Anyone else?
  • Any chance you would open up your food diary so we could see some examples of an average day?
  • Actually Subway's Oven Roasted Chicken salad says it only has 270g of sodium. That's impressive. I might have to give that a try. Thanks for all of the responses.
  • Yeah, I personally see something wrong with it. :) There are rest days in between runs for a reason. That recovery period is just as important as the runs themselves. I wouldn't worry about running the full distance before the race. The adrenaline and other factors will definitely carry you through on race day. I speak…
  • I can't speak from experience, but I have read up a lot on the minimalist movement. I say go for it. But, be aware that there's an adjustment period. You can't just slap them on and go or you'll get hurt. There's instructions on their website on how to transition into them. Make sure you follow them. Me personally, I think…
  • I did nothing before my 5k. I would suggest the same so that you stock pile some energy. But if you have to do something, I wouldn't do more than a walk. That's just me though.
  • It only took me a couple days to fully recover from my first 5k last month. I wouldn't worry about it at all. And for what it's worth, I bet you beat the 40 minute mark easily based on what you're running now. You'll be surprised how being around others in a race setting will pull you through.
