Polar FT7 Heart Rate Monitor
So I didn't see anything against this in the guidelines so I'm going to give this a shot. Mods, feel free to delete this if it's against any rules. I have a very lightly used Polar FT7 heart rate monitor that I don't use anymore. If anyone is interested in picking it up for a reasonable price please send me a message on…

New Rules of Lifting Question
I have the book but haven't had a chance to read it yet. Also, right now I'm working out at home with a set of dumbbells and a bench. I understand one of the books main lifts is the dead lift. Does it give an adaptation for dumbbells or am I going to have to look into purchasing a bar and more weights? Thanks for the help.

Male Runners, I need advice on shorts
I was out for a nice run last night when I realized my shorts were too big and they started to chafe. So I need some new running shorts. What do you guys use and what do you suggest? Thanks for the help.

Drink Less Water?
I found this article to be very interesting. Especially when it talks about drinking too much water diluting the stomach and hurting digestion. Because of this I no longer force myself to drink 80-100oz of water a day. Instead I have my coffee in the morning and drink when I'm thirsty. Let me know what you guys think about…

A Case Against Cardio
http://www.marksdailyapple.com/case-against-cardio/ I found this article to be pretty interesting and it has me reconsidering how much cardio I include in my weekly routine. Since cardio seems rampant around here and weight training is usually a tough pill for people to swallow, I'm curious to see what thoughts on this…

Low Sodium Fast Food Options?
Do they exist? It seems like even salads come loaded with the stuff. I have some plans that came up this evening and I'll have to get food somewhere on the way. Can anyone suggest anything out there with 5-700g of sodium or less and around 4-500 calories? Your help is appreciated.

Change of diet to break plateau, need opinions!
So I've really plateaued around 238-240 for the past month or two. I'll admit it's partially due to not being as committed as I was when I started. However, I think my diet needs to get changed up a bit too. I have an idea of what I'm going to do to change it up but I'd love to get other opinions too. Take a look at my…

Runners, music or no music?
I started c25k this spring/summer and through all my training runs I listened to music. It wasn't until the week before my 5k, when I ran with a friend for the first time, that I tried it without music. I also ran my 5k without music as I wanted to take everything in. I noticed that without music I was more in tuned to my…

To All The C25K'ers
You can do it. Just stick with the program. I'm living proof. I ran my first 5k this last Saturday and it was awesome. I was actually only in week 7 of the program and I was able to run the whole way. I turned in a time of 35:50 which I was very happy with for a first try. It's true what they say about the adrenaline and…

Salads for Breakfast?
I just finished "Born To Run" by Christopher McDougall and while reading it this excerpt really stuck out to me: "Under her Tarahumara-style eating plan, lunch and dinner were built around fruit, beans, yams, whole grains, and vegetables, and breakfast was often salad. “You get leafy greens in your body first thing in the…

Runners, Help me with tight shins.
I'm doing C25K right now and I'm just starting week 7 which is 25 minute runs. I've been properly fitted with shoes at Fleet Feet so I'm confident that the problem is not there. But I when I'm running, usually 15 to 20 minutes in, my shins get pretty tight. It's more on the outside of the shins if that matters. What can I…

Question for C25K grads
So I'm in week 5 of c25k. I'll be doing day 3 tomorrow which is the first 20 minute run. My question is, have any of you grads felt so good about your running that you've skipped ahead? I have no running background and I'm literally starting from scratch with c25k, but I've notice the last handful of runs that I've been…

Guys, am I eating enough?
This question is more aimed for the guys who might have been in a similar situation, but ladies you're always welcome to chime in if you'd like. My question is, am I eating enough calories? I'm currently weighing in right around 240. I started this journey at 281. I would like to continue to lose weight and get down to…

Runners, thoughts on compression socks?
I was curious if any of you runners use compression socks during or after your runs? If so, what advantages to you think they give you? I read an interesting article about them on runnersworld.com and I just wanted to hear about some real world experience.

Half Way There (with pics)
I started this journey about 4 and a half months ago. I was 281 when I started and completely miserable. Through tracking my calories and exercising regularly I was able to drop my first 40lbs! I'm half way to my goal of 200. I feel great about my progress, but I also see the potential in my body so I'm very motivated to…

Proper Breathing While Running, Help!
So I'm on week 4 of c25k. That's the week where you start running more than walking. I'm having a hard time finishing the 5 minute runs and I think the breathing has a lot to do with it. I try to inhale for 3 strides and then exhale for 3 strides, but by the end of the 5 minutes my body just wants to huff and puff inhaling…

Running and Lifting Legs Question
So I think I know the answer to this, but I wanted to throw it out there. Currently I'm doing the c25k program but on my off days I'm lifting. I understand that the days between runs for c25k are meant to let my muscles recover. So wouldn't lifting legs at any point be disruptive to that? When would be a good day to lift…

My General Thoughts on My Progress
So I started this journey at 281lbs. Originally I set my goal for 220. That's 61lbs to lose. Well here I am with almost 35lbs gone which is over half way to my goal and I'm not satisfied. Going through all of this has only made me want to be a better person and as in shape as I can be. So I saw my goal of 220 as too weak…

Question about Running for the guys
Gentlemen, What type of underwear do you run in? I'm normally a boxer or a boxerbrief guy but I've noticed while running they chafe a little. Do you guys get separate running underwear or do you just use your every day stuff?

C25K Question For Guys
I read all the time about how you can repeat weeks in C25K and not worry about it. I'm curious how many guys here actually do repeat a week. I'm just thinking that goes against our male egos. :) So guys, anyone actually do C25K and have to repeat weeks? Are you happy you did or do you wish you just pushed through?

Going to Fleet Feet Chicago tomorrow
I can't wait. I'm going to Fleet Feet in Chicago tomorrow to get fitted for some good running shoes. Then I'll finally be able to start my c25k program. I've been waiting weeks for this. I'm so excited to finally get running. Just thought I'd share.

Water Observation, Am I the only one?
When I started this lifestyle change almost 3 months ago I struggled to get my water in. I needed some sort of flavor pack just to drink the stuff. Now that I've lost a decent amount of weight and have changed my eating habits, I've noticed that I no longer have a problem with water. I don't need flavor packets anymore and…

Bittersweet NSV
It's a sad day today in a good way. My favorite dress shirt is now too big on me. Also, I'm almost on the last hole of my belt. Time to head up to the attic and dig out some older smaller clothes.

Polar FT7
After a couple months on here I finally went ahead and ordered a Polar FT7. I'm really excited for it to get here. I'm looking forward to getting accurate calorie counts when doing the elliptical and other activities like softball. I'm also hoping it will help when I start the C25K program. Also, fyi, if you order the…

Another HRM Question
I've done some searching around here but I haven't found exactly the answers I'm looking for so I'm going to start my own thread. I'm wondering what advantages you've seen from using a heart rate monitor compared to when you didn't use one. Were you able to make your workouts more effective and efficient? If so, in what…

Guys, Cardio or Weights?
Question for the guys. When trying to lose a large amount of weight, do you do all cardio, all weight lifting, or a combo of both? Currently I'm doing only cardio but I'm considering adding some lifting in hopes to jump start things a little.
