Salads for Breakfast?

I just finished "Born To Run" by Christopher McDougall and while reading it this excerpt really stuck out to me:

"Under her Tarahumara-style eating plan, lunch and dinner were built around fruit, beans, yams, whole grains, and vegetables, and breakfast was often salad. “You get leafy greens in your body first thing in the morning and you’ll lose a lot of weight,” she urged me. Because a monster salad is loaded with nutrient-rich carbs and low in fat, I could stuff myself and not feel hungry - or queasy - when it came time to work out."

He goes on to talk about making his salad with beans, broccoli, and some fruit along with a sweet poppy seed dressing. It sounded good to me so I'm thinking about trying it after I get groceries this weekend. Has anyone else tried doing salads for breakfast?

Hmm, so no one has tried this? I guess I'll be the first guinea pig on this site.

Sometimes I chop up tomatoes and cucumbers with lemon juice and have it as a side salad with eggs in the morning. It's common in Israel with breakfast...

I like it! I eat breakfast every morning, but pretty much hate breakfast foods. Haven't tried the salad for breakfast thing (I don't eat a lot of salads...I find keeping extremely perishable fresh veggies too expensive, since my poor skinny boyfriend would probably waste away to nothing if I spent grocery money on lettuce!), but I say go for it and see if it works for you!

(Be sure to throw some protein into that salad!)

The protein is in the beans.
