I very much like my Polar FT40.
Most people on MFP will recommend the Polar brand. FT7, and FT4 are popular models on MFP.

Yeah I love the Polar FT4, and I have just bought a Garmin 405 Forerunner for running and walking outside xx
  • like colt said the polar ft4 and ft7 are very popular. I have the polar ft4 myself. I think i paid around $70 or so and it comes with a chest strap. get a HRM with a chest strap, it gives you a more accurate reading of your calories burned, heart rate etc

Yup, love my Polar FT4. Only thing that would make it better would be if it had GPS capability. But you have to spend a lot more if you want that.

I have the Polar FT60, love it...also have the forerunner 405 for my running. Both are pricey, but I think it's a worthwhile investment!

    Just got FT40. Love it!
  • I love my Polar FT40. If you want GPS capability and have an iPhone...download RunKeeper and use them together. That's what I do and it works great!

sophjakesmom, if you have an iPhone or iTouch...download an app called RunKeeper and use it in conjunction with your HRM. That's what I do :)
  • I just got he Polar FT4 and absolutely love it. It wasn't particularly cheap but I think it was definitely worth the investment

I LOVE my Forerunner. I only have a 205, and sometimes I wish I had a HRM but most of the time I'm good. Use it for EVERYTHING, including kayaking to see how far I go. I turn off the auto stop, though, because I'm going too slow and it thinks I'm stopped. LOL. Any suggestions for an inexpensive, but good, HRM?

Endomondo is another good app available for iPhone or Android platforms.

Thanks! I tried RunKeeper, but I think the signals around my town were weak because it kept losing its place. And I don't really like to run with my iPhone. ( I cracked a screen once after a long run. )

I'm not sure if this is against the rules or anything, but I have a very lightly used FT7 that I'd be happy to part with. Send me a message if you're interested.

Good topic. Been researching HRMs in the past week and got various opinions. So far, Polar has surpassed Timex in terms of quality and accuracy.

Thanks for the helpful input, everyone.

I have a Polar FT7 and I am sorry I bought it. I can workout extremely hard, sweating until I cannot see, and it might register a burn of 150 to 200 calories burned? I have been at this for almost a year and know what a good workout is.
  • I have the FT4 and love it. Be sure to wet the sensors before each use. :)

Are all your settings right eg weight, age etc? Maybe you're losing the sensors and it isnt registering it all?

Are you referring to a cardio workout or weight training?

Ok first thanx for all the answers - but now which of them of the less expensive ones are worth it - and since I really don't know how a HRM works - can someone explain it to me... :embarassed:
