  • Greetings from Quebec, where there are still some friendly bilingual holdouts in spite of our despicable, xenophobic government! Any Canadian (and the OP, if she's not already completely overwhelmed with new friends) who has responded to this thread can add me, as long as you include a short message that you're from the…
  • The belly fat is often the last to go, sadly, and trying to lose it through isolation exercises, such as crunches, will not work. It's the loss of overall body fat that helps diminish the tummy. I lost a few inches last year, but the stubborn layer that drives me nuts is still there 9 months into this year (diet, cardio…
  • Long haul - gym rat - weight-training obsessed... add me! I don't kick anyone's @ss to do anything, but I am very interested in other peoples' workouts and activities.
  • They make a fantastic addition to an ordinary tomato (pasta) sauce.
  • You could practice assisted pull-ups at the gym until you have enough strength to do them with resistance bands (which is harder -- more of your body weight involved). These things take time. I still can't do more than ONE unassisted. I don't feel like a failure, nor should you. Practice makes perfect -- and strong :-)
  • Yes to both. I'm sure you've had a ready-to-serve frozen meal before? Same deal. Quinoa, couscous, and other grains also freeze nicely.
  • Thank you to all the commenters on this thread for the various bits of info on OHP. I had been wondering about several aspects, and didn't know how easily people can stall out. I managed to get to 55 before that happened, and then injured my left shoulder, which has left me unable to do even the 45lb bar. And yet I can…
  • I've used the products since 2009 and appreciate the fact that they contain none of the chemical crap and sweeteners of most store brands. I still use the Isagenix bars and shakes (IsaLean Pro) for pre- and post-workout fuel, but less often than before, due to the cost and also to the fact that I found a protein shake…

  • As far as I'm concerned, 1200 is a deprivation-level weight-loss setting. Anyway, since we are pals, I look at your diary now and then and it doesn't seem to be at 1200, at least not for the past few days, so I'm not sure why you're asking if anyone ELSE is doing this. Mine is set at 1600; I am often under, often close,…
  • I do most everything in my life alone on a daily basis, and sometimes it gets to me. How about you? If I drop you a line and tell you mine, will you tell me yours?
  • Move over, Daniel Craig! Simply awesome transformation. Congrats!
  • I have a friend who cannot process iron from foods, and needs to get an injection every so often. This might be your case, but only your doctor can tell you for sure.

  • I love cooking, but.... I am always looking for fast-prep recipes. I work from home, so I could recommend a 1/2 cup of mixed salad beans - kidney, chick pea, lentil, etc. - with a splash of lemon and sometimes a splash of olive oil. Good protein and fibre, and you don't get any easier than that. I would eat an entire cup…
  • About to go listen now. It sounds like it might be awesome and just what I need. Why does he look like he's been dipped in chocolate, though?
  • I recently read an article by some expert or other (possibly a real doctor) who said to use this guideline: if the symptoms are from the neck up (head cold, congestion, etc.) go ahead and exercise; it can even help. If it's full-body (aches and pains, and fever to boot), REST.
  • Such a difference! You deserve nothing but praise! I'm sure you feel much better -- you certainly look great. Best of luck in the home stretch!
  • I'm with the OP. Nothing fills me up, not really. And I eat steel-cut oats, flax, you name it. I just tell myself that my body has been given the nutrients it needs; then I carry on and try not to think about it (but: lots of water, snack 2-3 hours later).
  • It looks and sounds delicious. Thank you for posting the recipe. I have been cutting carbs somewhat and avoiding bread (among other things) as a result. And the loaf of store-bought whole wheat sitting on my kitchen counter has 17 carbs per slice, so your version is still significantly lower no matter how you slice it. :-)
  • Wonderful! Very rewarding numbers for you! I am at the same number and trying to crawl it back down to the 126 I was at in December last year. I took a peek at your profile and grinned at the "unrealistic" goal. Perhaps in our next life we will be UFC champions. For now, I'm only benching 55 lbs, can't see myself EVER…
  • I don't know how you can even be alive and posting here if you eat only 350 calories a day.
  • Quebec -- but still Canadian in spite of the idiots running the joint over here! Add me if you want. I have kept my pal list small, so have room for lots more. Some fellow Canucks would be nice. (p.s. most of my family is near Toronto -- Aurora & Barrie area).
  • I want to thank the original poster and everyone who replied on this thread. What a healthy, lovely, refreshing, helpful exchange of ideas. So rare in these forums (I tend to avoid them like the plague, but the topic title caught my eye... heh.) T.
  • Quite amazing -- two 5Ks in one day is a singular accomplishment. You should be very proud of this wonderful fitness NSV and keep going, cuz it can only get better!
  • Amen for your post. I also stopped counting because IT TOOK THE JOY OF OUT LIFE. As I mentioned to another pal here on this site, I found myself one day absolutely paralyzed while trying to decide if I should have a tangerine as a snack and calculating the carb count. At that moment I decided that things had gotten a bit…
  • It is possible, yes, but it does take patience! Do NOT start out lifting heavy. Nobody starts out with heavy weights. Work your way up with the weights. Ab exercises are not the magical solution for belly fat; they WILL strengthen your abs, but they will not "spot-reduce" fat in that particular part of the body. Be…
  • I have usually logged 60 minutes of BP as 30 weight training + 30 circuit training or something similar. Because it definitely burns more than weight training alone, and is not technically an hour of HIT; so I go half and half.
  • And ^THIS^.... is awesome. This is the sort of MFP pal we all need!
  • Don't give up -- and don't overthink it! The more you tell yourself you're not motivated, the less motivated you will feel. This happened to me in early February, but I kept kicking my own butt out the door to get to the gym. The "blahs" passed after a few days, and I was glad I had kept up with my workouts after all.…
  • My only quibble with part of this conversation is that yet again, I'm seeing people recommend heavy lifting to people who are just starting out. It is better to start with lighter weights and work your way up. It's just common sense. You don't just leap into an activity without preparation of some sort, unless you want to…

  • I have nearly the same SW and GW as you, and am 1 lb from my GW and now not actively looking to lose -- though still have some fat to go, but can't eat less because of weight training -- and focussing on keeping up good habits. I will send you a pal request :-)
