I understand what you are going through, been there myself. Hang in there, remember why you started on this journey...for your health, your kids, etc. As far as the water, I'm with you...unless I'm working out I can't drink straight water. But I buy things like Crystal Light singles (mostly I buy off brands), that are 5…

Welcome Vikki! Glad you found MFP, hope it helps you on your journey. I've found the food diary a wonderful tool myself, it has helped me to understand what foods work best for me in order to lose weight. I'm like you, I was very active when I was younger, and over the last 10 years as I've slowed down, my weight has gone…

Welcome to MFP. I agree with you, using the food and exercise diary has really helped me become more disciplined. And finding supportive friends here is so helpful too, we can all use a little encouragement on this journey. Congratulations on your progress so far, best of luck to you!

Congrats on your weight loss, that is awesome. You are so right, changing how you eat is so important. I've also given up processed foods, and learned to cook healthier meals with fresh foods. It's made a big difference. Also giving up my beloved soda and drinking water instead has been helpful. Combined with exercise, I'm…

Welcome to MFP, I'm sure you'll find the support you are looking for here, I know I have. Congrats on choosing a healthier lifestyle, I've recently done the same. Like you, I'm tired of being tired and finally decided enough is enough. Time for a change. We can do this!

Welcome Misty! I think you'll find lots of encouragement here on MFP, I know I have. It's a really supportive place, and the tools here really help to understand what works best for you as far as what you eat and how much you exercise. I hope you find it useful. It is so great that you have supportive friends and family,…

I totally understand and I'm in the same boat. I'm determined this time to stay on track and look at this as a lifestyle change, and not a 'diet'. I'm sure we can do this, just need to keep with it and find support. I'll add you and maybe we can motivate each other.

I had my boss's boss ask me that same thing, I was horrified. I told him that I was just fat, and then he was horrified. I'm apple shaped, so I can understand, but it was humiliating for sure. So I'm on MFP and losing weight, and every time he comes into town I make sure to say Hi and be as friendly as possible. It's…

I'd try a shampoo and conditioner that is free of f sodium laurel sulfates and detergents, and cleanses without lathering or stripping the scalp or hair of natural moisture. I found a good product at Sally Beauty supply, but if you search online I'm sure you can find many different products. The trick with these, because…

My brother has degenerative disk disease and is in constant pain as well. He was overweight, and it took him some time but he's gotten down to his goal. The only exercises he could do was walk and swim. Swimming seems to be easier for him, and he's enjoyed that. He is still in pain, but with the extra weight off, he says…

I don't weigh my food, that's too much trouble for me! I basically use my hand to judge portion sizes, as I do this when I cook. A cup is about the size of my fist, a 3oz piece of meat like poultry fits in my palm, a teaspoon is roughly the size of the tip of my index finger etc. I've found these have been good guidelines…

I usually have a protein shake for breakfast, cut up some fruit like strawberries and add some ice and I have a nice smoothie for breakfast. Personally I hate breakfast and I always used to skip it, which is a bad thing to do. So this gives me a good start to the day, and I'm not hungry until lunch. I sometimes will have…

Welcome Megan! I'm sure MFP will help you reach your goals. It's amazing how entering everything you put in your mouth into your food diary will keep you honest. When you actually see what you are eating, it helps you to make truly healthy choices. It's also helped me to see how important exercise is in achieving a…

Welcome to MFP. I'm pretty new to the site as well, but so far I have found it very helpful. I've tried WW as well, but this site seems to work better for me personally. The support here is wonderful too. Feel free to add me as a friend for support. Best of luck to you!

Mine was after my last doctor's appointment, after talking with my Dad about my high cholesterol levels. I already have high blood pressure, and was told I needed to make changes to avoid having to go on medication to reduce my cholesterol. Both my Dad's parents died of congestive heart failure, as has my mother's…

Welcome Michelle, glad you found MFP. Sounds like you are doing great! This is a really supportive environment and I'm sure you'll find lots of friends to motivate you. My father has been a borderline diabetic for 40 years, controlling it by a healthy diet and exercise, as he wants to avoid insulin dependence if at all…

Someone else from TN, yay! Welcome to MFP, I'm also new as well. I've got about 30 more pounds to lose myself, lost 15 before I joined, but had hit a wall. Turns out I wasn't disciplined enough, so I am hopeful that having to use a food journal and supporting friends will help. I'm also a dog lover, I have a 10 month old…

I use Ideal Shape for my protein shakes, I buy the vanilla flavor as I seem to be able to mix in more things....berries, bananas, etc. If I have one for breakfast, it holds me over until lunch time, its really filling and I find it tastes good as well. Some I've tried taste like chalk....

Hi Melissa, welcome to MFP. I'm new here as well, only been on this site for a week. I can't say enough about the tools online, if you honestly track your food and exercise, this site can really help you out. Lots of supportive people as well, and that helps. You will reach your goal, just take it one day at a time, its…

You've gotten a lot of good advice about starting slow and giving yourself small victories. I'll just add that although making healthy choices is harder than 'just giving up', you need to see yourself as worth working hard for. You work hard for your kids right? Well save a bit of that energy for yourself, show your kids…

First you need to find what motivates you, what works to keep you focused on your goals. For me, it was taking a picture of myself and putting it on the fridge and keeping it on my cell phone. Every time I go to put food in my mouth, I look at that picture first, then decide do I really want to eat that? I haven't eaten…

I'm 45, not sure what that should look or feel like, but I'm totally enjoying it! Ok not enjoying that losing weight is harder than in my 30's, but hey gotta enjoy this thing called life right. Feel free to add me, we can encourage each other to stay fab in our 40's!
