A new journey has started...

In fact the journey started at the beginning of November of last year while I was on an extended business trip in Germany. Before leaving on that trip I had just turned 50 and I had decided that it was time to take my life back and change a number of things. When I arrived in Germany the first thing I did was I gave up eating any processed foods when possible. After about a week I joined one of the local gyms.
I also made a conscientious choice that I would not be weighing myself after or before every work out, because having done so in the past, when I didn't see any results I would get discouraged and give up at my efforts. However, back then I was also still eating basically what I now consider to be garbage.
When I arrived back home I had some friends comment that they didn't know what I was doing but what ever it was it was good and I should keep it up. After being at home for a month I finally got around to joining a local gym on recommendation of a good friend of mine who is a certified personal trainer and lifestyle coach.
Last week was the first time had gotten on as scale in two months, and since that first day at the gym in Germany, I have managed to loose just over 33 lbs and keep it off.
I love to cook and I have been concocting all kinds of things in the kitchen. Maybe some day may even find a way to share what will probably be close to twenty healthy recipes based on educating myself about different foods and their preparation, caloric and nutrient values.
What I found is the key in this new journey of mine is the change of what I am putting into my body to nourish it. My long term plan is to get down to what is supposed to be my ideal body weight of 182 lbs by the summer and if I keep being positive, motivated and disciplined I will reach that goal with regular effort.
If anyone out their things they are going to loose weight simply by exercise alone, you are fooling yourselves, you really have to change your entire lifestyle. And just an aside, healthy eating doesn't have to be boring - hopefully will share some of my recipes with you all in the future.

Congrats on your weight loss, that is awesome. You are so right, changing how you eat is so important. I've also given up processed foods, and learned to cook healthier meals with fresh foods. It's made a big difference. Also giving up my beloved soda and drinking water instead has been helpful. Combined with exercise, I'm hoping that I'll follow in your footsteps and see the weight come off.
I would love to see your recipes. I'm always looking for yummy healthy recipes. I now love to cook, which has been a big change for me. But when I saw what a difference eating healthy food in the right portions makes its no longer fun for me to eat out. I'd prefer to cook. Look forward to seeing your recipes, please share!
Congrats on your progress, keep up the good work. I'm sure you'll make your goal by summer!0 -
