  • Which grains have you cut out? I've read barley, oats, wheat, etc. were recommended. I have, in fact, switched to 100% whole wheat bread from the white sandwich breads I'd eaten prior to watching my cholesterol. Are grains considered bad for the diet of a person watching their cholesterol?
  • Found out last week I have the same problem. High cholesterol. As far as I know I am the only one in my immediate family to have this, but I had been overweight for quite a while although I am still losing most of the 'over' weight. Being overweight also led me to a very unhealthy lifestyle with little exercise. I am…
  • Pizza Hut Italian Sausage Pizza--Thin and Crispy. Yes, I can still have a piece now and then. But if I could eat anything and not gain weight I could eat probably an entire medium pizza alone. Love them that much!
  • You are looking so much healthier! And those plateaus DO budge eventually. I've reached some over the last few months BUT...I have been able to lose all but a teensy part of my high blood pressure medicines due to the total weight changes. My doctor says if I continue on my new lifestyle plan all the BP meds may be…
  • I get one every year. For a long time I was my mother's caregiver. She had ovarian cancer and I refused to get near her without it. I'd had flu in previous years and knew it would not be in her best interest to take the chance on NOT getting it ..then possibly spreading flu. Anyone near patients or those with low immunity…
  • Gallbladder removal is one of the most common surgeries these days. Perhaps, in my opinion, it is the foods we are more prone to eat now. Mine had to be removed about a month ago. No problems with digestion issues (feel much better than before) but I did notice a problem eating simple salads for a while. Basically, a good…
  • I have not joined a gym and as of this week have lost 45 lbs (joined late January 2011). Yes, it can be done but you must be willing to walk, exercise, etc. at home. Weight will come off without exercise but the more muscle you build as you lose weight, your metabolism increases (more muscle=faster metabolism). I do plan…
  • Yummy! I haven't tried this yet but intend to very soon; it was my favorite and I haven't eaten it in over a year! Thanks for posting!
  • Fantastic! Keep us updated!
  • I have been on MFP since January and have lost 44 lbs. Sometimes a few pounds a week and sometimes it takes two weeks to lose a pound. Loving it whatever amount because that means I am getting healthier. What was funny to me back in the summer was I bought two large bags of cat food for our pets and realized when I got…
  • You look amazing. I have lost 43 lbs and still haven't tried 'after' or 'during' photos. Maybe I should. You have me feeling more secure in the weight I've lost. But I have to say you should be so proud of yourself!
  • Best of luck with your journey!!!
  • Awesome job!! Keep it up!!
  • I like them. We use it for portion control, freezing meats, fish, veggies, etc in two person portion amounts. This way we don't lose food from cooking then not eating it or, as you say, using something once and it going stale.

  • I agree it sounds like a plateau AND gaining muscle. Your activity level has increased significantly and you must be gaining muscle. As for the weight loss being slower, after I'd lost steadily for several months I hit a plateau that lasted nearly three months. I gained a bit (still not sure of the gain, but I too began…
  • I try very hard to drink 8 cups of water but I, too, don't really like drinking lots of water. It is better for me when I drink it at very cold temperatures and in pint amounts (2 cup increments in each). That is four servings per day. I drink it with meals which only leaves one time during the day I have to fit in that…

  • You are doing a fabulous job with your weight loss! Keep it up! I agree with one of the other posts, your sister will lose weight when she is ready. Sometimes, no matter how much we care, we have to wait for our loved ones to realize their health is important too. I wanted to lose weight for a long time before I was ready,…
  • I look at this as a lifestyle change and not a diet, and have lost over forty pounds since January. I love chocolate and sodas too. I work them into my meals...not daily but when I want or need them. Usually I can eat a snack size candy bar or drink a portion of a soda and that is satisfying, especially if it is just a…
  • I can't answer for others on here but I always attempt to be supportive. There will be all kinds of answers on this site, some brutally honest, some nice, some incredibly helpful and yes, some rude. I have learned to just read over the answers and pay attention to those who are truly trying to be helpful. Maybe the 'rude'…
  • I take One a Day Active Metabolism vitamins and Viactiv calcium chews every morning.
  • Fabulous! Your weight loss is amazing and the photos are great! Congrats!
  • Oh there is definitely a difference! You have much better tone in your upper legs and they definitely look smaller. I can see it in the toning of your tummy as well. Sometimes inches lost are better than the amount of weight lost! Don't worry, the numbers will decline and you will see it in pounds lost too but be proud of…
  • You just need to ease into the workouts. If you cannot walk the two blocks...don't. Work up to it. First walk a block for a week or so, then try the two blocks. If Pilates, yoga, the ball or other more stationary workouts do the trick, then keep them up and work to increase the number of reps. You can also find wonderful…
  • Wash them! If you think of the others who've handled the fruits and vegetables while packages, stocking and shopping AND the growers and the possible pesticides or fertilizers used on the plants the answer is a definite YES.
  • I also should note fruit has a low energy density and has water. It helps you feel fuller thus the weight loss. The fruit itself does not cut calories but does help in keeping you feeling satisfied/full. You should eat it in moderation and you should still follow a good exercise and healthy meal program. I have heard…
  • I had just finished eating a peach when I read your post! First of all, try to always eat fresh fruit...not dried or canned. My experience is that peaches are a great fat fighting/weight loss snack. Melons (watermelons are my favorite) and berries like strawberries and blueberries (which I eat for their antioxidant…
  • Wow! You look incredible..especially the hiking photo! You look like you FEEL so much better too. Thanks for posting your story, it is an inspiration to so many. I tell people my journey is about a lifestyle change and not just a diet. Healthier foods, much more water, more exercise. It all pays off in the end. Again, you…
  • I notice you mention these are at your workplace. You could also try bringing fruit with you to the office, I love blueberries and strawberries as my mid morning or mid afternoon snack. While your coworkers are filling up with empty calories you can have healthy, filling fruits. Just as sweet and better for you!
