  • I am finding that it's something not talked about much either. But, it's up to us to change attitudes. I have no qualms about letting someone know that I need just a few minutes to come back from a hot flash. The more we make it to be normal, the more people might start accepting it as such.
  • Welcome! This time of our lives is definitely more of a challenge weight-wise. I just turned 52 and have struggled for a long time with my weight. It is finally, with persistence and accountability, coming off slowly. (30 lbs since 1/2011) I have had to readjust my goals as far as when I want to have the weight off. Be…
  • Yep! We are in a strange place! I am just so thankful we have others to share with!
  • I don't have much experience with the pill but I do know that after all those years you are going to have to let your body adjust on its own. It is so accustomed to the extra hormones that it needs to figure out how to produce its own. In my opinion I think you should give yourself a good amount of time , maybe 6 months?,…
  • Same here. September, january, and may. 4 months apart. Nice thing is that I don't have hot flashes when my period is on the way. My weight does strange things too.
  • I have pretty much given up posting anywhere except in the groups I am part of or on my wall for this very reason. Thank you for posting!
  • I am still a sahm but my youngest is 16. I remember the days of young ones and trying to balance losing weight and breast feeding. It wasn't easy but making good food choices and even taking those walks will help. Doing things like lying on your back and lifting the little one up and down is fun and excellent weight…
  • I'm at the same point. Toward the end of the day I have a really tough time. I was home alone this weekend for the first time in over 3 years. That was a REAL struggle, especially since I know where all the bad food is. I had to will myself to keep busy with something and if I just took a break I had some herbal tea.
  • Go to a specialty running store. (We have a Fleet Feet store in our area.) They will have someone there who can help you be fitted correctly. Even if you don't buy the bra there you will know what size you need and what kind fits you best. Plus, the women in the store have a lot of good knowledge!
  • I got a compression bra that is good for high impact exercises - motion comfort - and that's worked for me.
  • Welcome to all 3 of you! :flowerforyou: I know you will find support and camaraderie here. Things I've learned: let the weight come off slowly - be patient but consistent limit your sodium (I have mine set to 1500) know your BMR and set your calorie goal to about 100 over your BMR exercise the MM - menopausal middle…
  • If you eat about 100-200 calories above your BMR you will have enough calories for your body not to starve and you will lose weight. So, go to the tools section, calculate your BMR (it changes as you lose so check back every so often), and then aim for a little above that for your daily intake. It will work and you will be…
  • Way to go!!!! So proud of you. :flowerforyou:
  • I was just explaining to my husband how it feels to have hot flashes. I said that it was nice to have my exercise time when I have no idea if I'm having a hot flash because I'm already sweating from head to toe!!!
  • I have the Garmin Forerunner 305 and really like it. Sometimes I use the HRM when I want to double check my calories burned.
  • Our metabolism has slowed way down and that's a big cause for the slower weight loss. But, on the pro side, losing slowly is much better for you! What I found that worked for me was to eat just about 100 calories over my BMR. That was the only thing that worked. 1200 was way too little for me. I set my calorie goal to…
  • The hard part is that there are so many options to reduce hot flashes! It would be so much easier if we were all the same in this area. At least then we'd know what to do. The challenge for me is finding one that works. I tried Black Cohosh a couple years ago and my hot flashes increased a lot!!! I've tried…
  • Welcome! I think you'll find lots of encouragement here. I really like that I can post my frustrations/disappointments and get positive responses that lift me up. I think what most of us in this group have found is that the weight will come off SLOWLY but it will come off if we are diligent in our exercise and…
  • I have always had leakage when doing things with jumping or hard effort or sneezing. I can remember a time in high school on the trampoline and didn't ever really want to go back on. Walking and sneezing end up looking like I'm doing the grapevine walk!!! I also drink lots of water and that's tough on everyone if…
  • Got my results today - 8 polyps removed; 6 were fine but 2 were pre-cancerous. Going back in a year. Prevention is the best way here!
  • Definitely agree with this! I post a lot less now on the open forums. :flowerforyou:
  • I set my activity level to sedentary (also a stay at home mom) and "maintainence". I then find out my BMR - which changes as you lose - and eat about 100 above that. The difference is my deficit toward weight loss.
  • I buy whole oat groats and have an attachment on my grain mill to roll my oats. Soooo good!! I like to soak my oats overnight in water and 2 tablespoons of plain yogurt. Then, before cooking I add a couple tablespoons of raisins, some pumpkin pie spice, and maybe even a little pumpkin or squash. It's yummy and fills me up.…
  • Not going below your BMR is very important. You will find that you will still lose. 1200 cal is pretty low and your body will protect itself. I try to eat no more than 100 cal above my BMR unless my deficit is more than 1000. This method has worked quite well for me for the last 4 months or so.
  • ^^^ I think this has been the best, but hardest lesson to learn as I go through menopause. It took me a year to lose 20 lbs but I also know that slower is much better for our bodies. It takes vigilance on the food monitoring and some people will think you're obsessive as you watch what you eat so carefully. Because our…
  • I'm training for my first half in June and my first full in October using Jeff Galloway's guide. From what I can gather, what's most important is to listen to your body and not feel like you have to stick like glue to a certain training plan. What I like about Galloway's training is that you do more than your race. For me…
  • 10. I am prepping for my first one on Wednesday. Polyps run in my family but that is the extent of their results.
