  • Welcome back! I'm in the same boat - fell off the wagon for a few months and ballooned up to 464! Fortunately I started reining things in on 12/1 and over the last 6 week have lost 33 lbs. It scared me that my mom is now living with diabetes, as are my 2 aunts and I decided I really needed to do something about it. I…
  • Time to add my target on here. According to BMI I should be at 195 or so, so that is what I have set. My short term is to get into the 300's, then the 200's and then we'll see. I've been on here almost 2 years/ Started at 439, dropped to 402 and then recently, after falling off the wagon and down the street into the…
  • I have well over 200 lbs to lose. I have been on MFP for just about 2 years. My starting weight on here was 439. Unfortunately I have been on the proverbial roller coaster and had lost almost 60 lbs. and then gained that plus another 25 back. My heaviest was on 11/30 when I weighed myself and tipped the scales at 464! I…
  • Thank you for the responses so far. I see myself in a few of them. :) I guess my main reason for asking is to help me justify going back on the low carb plan. The hard part about it is eating different from the rest of the family. Spaghetti and hamburger helper are quick and easy meals for the kids and make it hard to stay…
  • I use them a lot as well. Its sad, but one of my justifications in the past for not losing weight was the fact that I would have to buy new clothes. It really is amazing how much we will delude ourselves and bend our priorities in order to justify something that is inheriantly unhealthy, which in this is case is a BMI in…

  • Thank you all for the words of encouragement! I know this is the right thing to do, but you understand how your head can get in the way at times. Slow and steady isn't the latest fad, nor is it exciting and dramatic, but I know its the way to go. I will continue and hopefully with my progress, they will see the…
  • Thank you for your response. That was my completion of the Pumpkinman Sprint Triathlon in October of 2010. I was down almost 50lbs from where I am today. I know I can do it, and I would love them to do it with me. You are right though, I can't make them do it and I have to do it for me and my health.
  • OK, now I see what the problem is for me lately - I've been having the extra snacks and not doing th eextra burn to make room for them! Seriously, though I miss riding - I'm done with a knee injury at the moment and I hope to get back at it soon.
  • No, it isn't backwards - calories are a measure of work and it makes sense that a havier person has to do more work to move the larger mass. My subjective observation is it seems to take more work to walk at 3.0 mph than it does to bike at 12 mph yet the calculators make it seem the other way around.

  • My shock came in the form of a seemingly "healthy" blueberry muffin. You know th eones in the big multi-pack from Sam's or CostCo. It has 630 calories! I couldn't believe it. I had just wanted one for a snack but it was outrageous.
  • Boy I wish I were where you are now, but I have a ways to go to get there. One thing I hav enoticed, though is that if I get stuck for a week or two, I have to look at the types of calories I'm consuming. For me personally I have to really limit the amount of carbs. For some reason my body loves to just turn the carbs…

  • Thank you all fo rthe encouoragement. I plan on following through and posting how well the Kinect works in helping to workout and stay active. I did notice there were a few other questions about th epossibility of adding the Kinect games to the list of exercises - might this happen?
  • Using the oatmeal to add to the amount of hamburger reduces the amount of actual hamburger you are using. You have about twice the hamburger with the fat content of only 4 oz.
  • Hi Athena! I'm new to MFP as well, but I can see it as being a great tool for a lifestyle change. I have lost about 100 lbs over the last 15 months (most of it prior to October) with Atkins but I realized it wasn't sustainable as I felt deprived and that I was missibng out on one of my biggest pleasures - a variety in what…
