  • Managed a pain-free 6km run yesterday, which I was thrilled about, however, I’ve been ramping up the Pilates in the last couple of weeks and my hamstrings were absolutely shot - it’s a good kind of sore though. I was wanting to go to Pilates again this morning, but in the wind down to Christmas, they have canned their…
  • A lot of running events here have gone cupless, but they usually sell collapsible cups at race check in. These are usually silicone cups that fold flat so you can slide it into a pocket. Aid stations have water and they’ll fill your cup for you. Years ago before collapsible cups were a thing and running with water vests…
  • Hooray. After a rather painful session at the osteopath on Wednesday and a good massage yesterday I was able to run 5K without stopping. Just a low level ache in that lower calf and no pinching sensation. My fitness is shot, tragically. No horrors for me. Never liked them. Don’t mind a bit of suspense but I hate things…
  • 5k for me today. It’s amazing how much my fitness has dropped in the last couple of months so my slow pace had quite a bit to do with fitness or lack thereof and the rest of it I’ll blame on my still dodgy calf. It is improving, but I was forced to take three or four short walking breaks. Onwards!
  • Got out for 5K this morning. It’s starting to feel like summer here so I was stinking hot and dripping, but I was happy to be out running. The first 4K went great and then at 4k exactly my calf let me know that it had enough so I did the sensible thing and walked for a bit, then ran-walked back to my car. I was fine when I…
  • My goal for December is to simply run pain free.
  • Yikes. I haven’t done a proper reformer class in many years. That hurt! My poor bum. It’ll be interesting to see if I can walk tomorrow 😂
  • No running again for me as I try and shake this cold and heal my calf. I am off to Pilates in an hour or so, which I'm looking forward to. I'm trying a new studio, so hopefully it's fab.
  • I ran a lousy 3k yesterday and realise I shouldn't have. This annoying little cold was aggravated by it and I spent a large chunk of last night coughing (a whole other kind of workout). Also, I have annoyed my right lower calf again (I think I strained it a few weeks back but only notice it when I run) and now I'm limping.…
  • Good morning everyone just 5k for me this morning. I’m at that wonderful time of the year when work has pretty much finished for me, consequently I’m sick, my daughter is sick, my husband is sick (fortunately, all very minor but the niggling cough keeps you awake at night) and my second daughter was too tired to go to…
  • Update: my official Parkrun result came through over two minutes faster than what Strava recorded (I forgot my watch so I had to use my phone). I was perplexed so I revisited Strava and see that it has amended my time and it now matches the Parkrun time. Also, the status I had written had vanished, so clearly there was a…
  • So sorry to hear your news @daria0919, losing a beloved pet is always difficult, even if they have lived to a ripe old age. I did Parkrun this morning in my slowest time ever. Is it possible to get a PW (personal worst)? This is what happens when you don’t run properly for six or more weeks but at least I’m back running so…
  • Yes @quilteryoyo, she recommended every other day as I rebuild my fitness, and not to run and garden on the same day. My back was fine with this kind of gardening, it’s the heavy digging I have to watch and I haven’t managed to get round to planting the roses yet - the lawn takes 90 minutes to mow and it’s hot today so I’m…
  • No running for me today as per the physio’s orders, but I am in the garden. So far I have planted sweetcorn, tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, chillies, and spinach. Will head back out this afternoon to plant a couple more roses and to mow the lawn. I also put a coat of waterproofing on my old stock water tank. I’ll do…
  • Hi @Emilienewme, it’s frustrating when the stars don’t align - I’m often thwarted by school holidays and sick kids but you do what you can, when you can, I remember when I did live in the UK moaning to my colleague that my pants had gotten filthy at lunch and the look she gave me was of pure horror. It took about three…
  • Nice little 6k for me today and I felt great. I had one brief break halfway through to stretch my lower back and that’s it. Marvellous.
  • So I got some excellent news from my physio. She says, if it doesn’t hurt to run, then run! Yay. She says if I hadn’t had the imaging done then I wouldn’t actually know I had osteoarthritis in my back so I’d be running anyway. I just have to ease back into things gently to build up to where I was six weeks ago and she…
  • Morning, all did my usual 8k loop this morning with a couple of pauses to stretch my back. I fear my fitness has dropped a little and I was slow but otherwise good. I’m heading off to see the physio (who’s a runner) this morning so it will be interesting to see what she has to say. Welcome back @Avidkeo, i’ve been keeping…
  • November is off to a good start with a gentle 5k. I can feel my back when running, but it doesn’t hurt. Afterwards, it feels fantastic, so I’m taking that as running is a good thing. Just nixing the long runs until I see the specialist in January.
  • Fun fact about possums, unlike opossums they don’t play possum. Possums, which are native to Australia, are a huge pest here in New Zealand (they have no predators, and eat vast volumes of native bush and birds’ eggs so are trapped and shot for their fur, which is gorgeous and soft and when mixed with wool makes lovely…
  • Managed 28.5k for October. Perhaps my lowest mileage month since having my youngest nearly 11 years ago. I think I managed more when I had Covid! Medical update in November chat. But I’ll just say, turning 50 has really sucked. Getting old is grim. November will be better, but I’m expecting a hell of a lot more walking…
  • Hi everyone, apologies for being missing in action for most of last month. I’ve been trying to sort this damned back of mine out and sadly, while I have managed to get the ‘pinch’ released, which has been bothering me for months and was messing with my range of movement) we’ve discovered the low-grade ache in my back,…
  • So my plan to up kilometres to 200 has failed in the last two months - my body just isn’t happy with the extra mileage (mixed metrics just for you @tarun_yadavA). Instead, I’m ramping up the cross training- I’ve restarted Pilates after a 20-year hiatus 😂, and am recommitting to a daily 15 minute or more yoga practice.…
  • Yikes @Scott6255, I’m so sorry to hear about your brother. I hope he is ok. Happy Berlin Marathon Day @Laurz9191. Run well and have fun!
  • I am jealous of your run and race reports @quilteryoyo and @martaindale. I’d love to do both! My race dreams have been thwarted. I was supposed to do the Blue Lakes this weekend but after my soggy 15k on Friday my hip flexors we’re so super tight. I had most seized up back lots of stretching and rolling over the weekend…
  • I did 15km in the rain this morning, comprising three 5km loops which got progressively wetter. In one particular section the first loop had a shallow puddle of maybe a centimetre deep. The second time going through it, that puddle was maybe 2 or 3cm deep, and on the third loop it was probably 15cm deep. It’s probably just…
  • @AmunahSki, I really rate Dr Stacey Sims. All female athletes (of all levels) should read her book (Roar) or listen to her podcasts. So much of what is standard runners training doesn’t work for women. Eat the carbs, ditch the super cold ice baths, no fasted running, lift heavy, and as for that pesky menstrual cycle, learn…
  • 12 km on the struggle bus this morning. I seem to have lost my ability to run uphill. Rest day tomorrow, thankfully.
  • Did my usual Tuesday loop. It was a bit of a struggle as my legs were still tired from Sunday, but I took it slow and thought, Shana would give everything to be out here running, struggle or not, so I just kept going.
  • So sorry to hear about @shanaber. She was such a fighter and so optimistic I didn’t fully appreciate how ill she was. I’ll be running for her tomorrow.
