  • God, 20 or so years older, not 30. They were in their 20s and a bunch of weaklings. I guess years of wrangling children and heaving things round the garden really does build your strength!
  • No run today - Pilates instead. Always consistent @quilteryoyo, well done. Gently does it @tarun_yadavA, it’s really annoying being injured isn’t it? A big kudos to all of you getting out and battling the freezing temperatures and icy conditions. Impressive dedication. Keep up the good work. I’m laughing at the old runner…
  • I’ve started training for a hike my girlfriend and I are doing in April so we walked my old 12k trail run. Definitely uses different muscles to running. Nice day for it - not too hot and rather breezy. The much needed rain hasn’t arrived but there is now a heavy rain warning for Tuesday so there’s still hope.
  • 5k for me this morning. The calf behaved but I’m not sure if that’s the calf raises (or lowers actually) or the three days off! No occasion @tarun_yadavA - hubby and I are foodies and found ourselves without children for the night so jumped at the chance for something a bit special.
  • Keep the photos coming @WarmJellyfish, it all looks amazing. You’ve got me wanting to head back to Asia! Not a lot of running here at present - my niggly calf is likely a tendon thing so am rehabbing as best I can and part of this involves keeping my mileage low. Hubby and I did head out for dinner to one of the top…
  • A very short run for me today, but that’s because I went for a walk with my husband this morning before it got too hot and I needed to save energy for this afternoon as I’ve spent the last three hours gardening and boiling in the heat. I’m about to jump in the pool to cool off. #SummertimeProblems.
  • Just followed you on Strava @swimbikerun_repeat. @WarmJellyfish, I take magnesium, which is great for muscles - I’m not too sure about joints but I find my joint pain is directly related to tight muscles. I also do (try to do) at least 15 minutes of yoga daily. This does help hugely. In the morning, it’ll set you up for…
  • Grrrr. Lost my post. Your photos are gorgeous @daria0919. @yirara, that sounds absolutely awful. I hope you’ve fully recovered. Take it easy @tarun_yadavA, just be sure it isn’t a stress fracture. If it doesn’t come right with new shoes you might want to get it checked out. I’m currently sitting in a waterpark in Fiji,…
  • Just under 8k this morning accompanied by Miss 10 on her scooter. Normally I’d round up to the exact 8k but my lower right calf was starting to complain and I’ve learnt my lesson! Progress. Off to Fiji tomorrow where it promises to be stinking hot and super humid with thunderstorms most days. I’ll be taking my running gear…
  • Well 2025 is off to a good start - went for a walk in the forest with the family this morning and then followed it with a 5k run. Both were great. Family photo below. I also saw a heap of morning glory at the edge of the forest, which made me think of you lot. Sadly, although stunning, they’re officially a weed here! My…
  • Happy New Year. January is always a lower mileage month for me because of the heat and holidays. We’re heading to Fiji for a week in the 4th where it’ll be 30C and super humid so I’m not sure if I’ll be able to run in that soup - the priority will be to stay hydrated 😜🍸🍹 My goal for the month is to simply build back my…
  • OMG @avidkeo. What a disaster! Heal quickly.
  • Merry Christmas everyone. Wishing you all the very best for 2025, May all your running dreams come true! I spent Christmas Day with my brothers and sister and their families at my younger brother’s home in rural Bay of Plenty. He is on a lifestyle block which was a quarry in a previous life and the old pit is now filled…
  • Managed a pain-free 6km run yesterday, which I was thrilled about, however, I’ve been ramping up the Pilates in the last couple of weeks and my hamstrings were absolutely shot - it’s a good kind of sore though. I was wanting to go to Pilates again this morning, but in the wind down to Christmas, they have canned their…
  • A lot of running events here have gone cupless, but they usually sell collapsible cups at race check in. These are usually silicone cups that fold flat so you can slide it into a pocket. Aid stations have water and they’ll fill your cup for you. Years ago before collapsible cups were a thing and running with water vests…
  • Hooray. After a rather painful session at the osteopath on Wednesday and a good massage yesterday I was able to run 5K without stopping. Just a low level ache in that lower calf and no pinching sensation. My fitness is shot, tragically. No horrors for me. Never liked them. Don’t mind a bit of suspense but I hate things…
  • 5k for me today. It’s amazing how much my fitness has dropped in the last couple of months so my slow pace had quite a bit to do with fitness or lack thereof and the rest of it I’ll blame on my still dodgy calf. It is improving, but I was forced to take three or four short walking breaks. Onwards!
  • Got out for 5K this morning. It’s starting to feel like summer here so I was stinking hot and dripping, but I was happy to be out running. The first 4K went great and then at 4k exactly my calf let me know that it had enough so I did the sensible thing and walked for a bit, then ran-walked back to my car. I was fine when I…
  • My goal for December is to simply run pain free.
  • Yikes. I haven’t done a proper reformer class in many years. That hurt! My poor bum. It’ll be interesting to see if I can walk tomorrow 😂
  • No running again for me as I try and shake this cold and heal my calf. I am off to Pilates in an hour or so, which I'm looking forward to. I'm trying a new studio, so hopefully it's fab.
  • I ran a lousy 3k yesterday and realise I shouldn't have. This annoying little cold was aggravated by it and I spent a large chunk of last night coughing (a whole other kind of workout). Also, I have annoyed my right lower calf again (I think I strained it a few weeks back but only notice it when I run) and now I'm limping.…
  • Good morning everyone just 5k for me this morning. I’m at that wonderful time of the year when work has pretty much finished for me, consequently I’m sick, my daughter is sick, my husband is sick (fortunately, all very minor but the niggling cough keeps you awake at night) and my second daughter was too tired to go to…
  • Update: my official Parkrun result came through over two minutes faster than what Strava recorded (I forgot my watch so I had to use my phone). I was perplexed so I revisited Strava and see that it has amended my time and it now matches the Parkrun time. Also, the status I had written had vanished, so clearly there was a…
  • So sorry to hear your news @daria0919, losing a beloved pet is always difficult, even if they have lived to a ripe old age. I did Parkrun this morning in my slowest time ever. Is it possible to get a PW (personal worst)? This is what happens when you don’t run properly for six or more weeks but at least I’m back running so…
  • Yes @quilteryoyo, she recommended every other day as I rebuild my fitness, and not to run and garden on the same day. My back was fine with this kind of gardening, it’s the heavy digging I have to watch and I haven’t managed to get round to planting the roses yet - the lawn takes 90 minutes to mow and it’s hot today so I’m…
  • No running for me today as per the physio’s orders, but I am in the garden. So far I have planted sweetcorn, tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, chillies, and spinach. Will head back out this afternoon to plant a couple more roses and to mow the lawn. I also put a coat of waterproofing on my old stock water tank. I’ll do…
  • Hi @Emilienewme, it’s frustrating when the stars don’t align - I’m often thwarted by school holidays and sick kids but you do what you can, when you can, I remember when I did live in the UK moaning to my colleague that my pants had gotten filthy at lunch and the look she gave me was of pure horror. It took about three…
  • Nice little 6k for me today and I felt great. I had one brief break halfway through to stretch my lower back and that’s it. Marvellous.
  • So I got some excellent news from my physio. She says, if it doesn’t hurt to run, then run! Yay. She says if I hadn’t had the imaging done then I wouldn’t actually know I had osteoarthritis in my back so I’d be running anyway. I just have to ease back into things gently to build up to where I was six weeks ago and she…
