Fun exercise apps, please
Hi, someone on MFP was raving about the 'Walk to Mordor' app, which sounds like a lot of fun. Has anyone come across any other fun apps that can make exercise a bit more interesting for those that are new to it or less than enthusiastic about it? Disclaimer: I'm a magazine editor and am looking to recommend a few to my…

So I entered a half on a whim...
Last week I signed up to do the Christchurch half on a whim - thinking more about the girls' weekend away part and not realising how soon the event is. It's on Queen's Birthday Weekend (first weekend in June, and first weekend of winter here in New Zealand), which means I have only five weeks to up my mileage significantly…

Maintenance friends wanted (esp. runners)
Hi everyone, I've been at maintenance for about a year now I find I don't relate to a lot of people on my friends list anymore - not just that many are still trying to lose a lot of weight but my focus has also shifted to fitness, or more specifically increasing my running speed. I maintain at around 1800 calories and run…

Post breast feeding madness
So I've quit breast feeding and my period has returned... Well sort of. I'm on my third half-arsed period in six weeks. Very peculiar, but my hormones are all over the show and I've had three days of not being able to curb my eating. Dangerous territory. My google research shows that irregular periods and hormone madness…

Birthday help please!
Ok, so it's hubby's birthday on Saturday and he's asked for the ninth series of Supernatural but it's not out yet so what DVD or book should I get him? He loves sci-fi and is a big fan of vampires, zombies and the like. Favourite shows are Game of Thrones, True Blood, Grimm, Sleepy Hollow... You get the idea. Suggestions…

Weight loss after quitting breast feeding
Hi, my daughter has started to wean and in the last three weeks has gone from four feeds a day EBF to one feed from me, formula and solids (her choice!). However, without changing my calorie intake or exercise level my weight has dropped 1.5kg (3.3lbs) in that time. My calories are set to just below maintenance and are…

Old new mum looking for more motivational friends
Hi, 2014 has been a busy year for me so far; in January we bought a new house which were about to remodel, 10 weeks ago I had a second daughter, one month ago I turned 40 and my eldest girl turned two at the beginning of this month. I'm less than a kilo off goal but in the last few weeks have really been struggling with…

Antibiotics and obesity - are they linked
An interesting article in the NY Times which suggests a link between antibiotics and obesity. Food for thought. http://mobile.nytimes.com/2014/03/09/opinion/sunday/the-fat-drug.html?_r=0&referrer

Insomnia
Urg, it's midnight and I'm taking a break from trying to fall asleep. I'm shattered and have been hanging out for bedtime since about 6pm. Hit the hay at 9.30 when bubs promptly began her nightly calisthenics, however this time added kicking me fiercely in the cervix to her routine, which was kinda hard to ignore (actually…

The truth about transformation photos
For those who haven't seen it, this is worth reading. I knew those before/after shots were manipulated and exaggerated but I didn't realise just how much. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/andrew-dixon/weight-loss-secrets_b_3643898.html?ncid=wsc-dl-cards-readmore=edlinkusaolp00000009

Weight tracking
Hi everyone, will you be updating you ticker to reflect your pregnancy weight or just leave it as it is until after the birth? I'm not sure which to do... Kinda scary watching the scale go up but then immediately post partum it's going to be up quite a bit anyway, right? Then there's the breast feeding weight (up to an…

Newly pregnant and looking for friends in a similar boat
Hi there, I've just found out I'm pregnant with baby number two. Due on January 31st next year (such a long time away). I'm very excited and a little nervous as I lost a baby at ten weeks earlier in the year. Also worth noting I'm ancient - I'll turn 40 just weeks after bubs arrives. Looking for friends who like to stay…

Final stubborn few pounds to go...similar to you?
Hi, I've been here for a month but haven't many many friends yet. I'm close to my goal (although am thinking of dropping it from 150 to 145!) and I know the last few pounds take a lot of work to get rid of. I'd love a few friends who are in a similar position of trying to get rid of the final stubborn few.

6lbs loss in one day!
You can do it too, simply catch the nasty tummy bug that kept me shuffling between the loo and bed all day yesterday. Urg. Seriously unpleasant, but effective. Yes I know it's all water and I'm just massively dehydrated and the weight will all come back in the next day or two...BUT... it was great to step on the scales and…

Help, I've maxed out
I'm supposed to be eating around 1700 calories per day. I've finished lunch and my daily total is at 1000 so I've 700 left for dinner, however, according to my macros, I've maxed out on carbs, sugar, protein and fat. What should I have for dinner - I was going to have a stir fry with heaps of veges and some steak... Any…

Calorie miscalculation...in my favour!!!
I finally sat down and worked out the calories and macros in my homemade muesli and also actually measured my daily portion, only to find I had been over calculating it and the yoghurt I eat it with by 200 calories nearly every morning for over a year! Great way to accidentally diet. Have you ever done something like this?
