WOW! @yirara those are some magnificent shots of your trip! I think the iceberg is my favorite. Nice to look at cold places when it's hot here already.
@AlphaHowls this is tough. I hope that hospice and the new aide are able to ease some of this for you. It's been a long journey and you have been amazing. Even with getting 4 teeth worked on! When my mom was in the hospital towards the end with dementia and not eating the Drs approached my brother and I and wanted to put a feeding tube in. We had learned the hard way with my Dad that just keeping people alive (the Drs have to suggest that) is not always the kindest path so we requested to take her home with hospice. It was not an easy time but I think better than just piling procedure and procedure up on an end stage patient.
Great run Chris! altho I don't consider that to be morning….
Well I did try out 2 miles yesterday and honestly the first one felt amazing. But my foot was hurting again during the 2nd and I wished I had not tried it. So will be an easy day altho mentally the run felt fabulous of course.
@quilteryoyo hope you can get some sleep. I don't know if it's because the house is warmer or my lack of hard workouts but my sleeping HR has been very high the past week or so. Doesnt help that my neighbor is cranking his music so I get bass thumping and sometimes even put on my Bose headphones.
My weird story.
My old dentist again is retiring and since his office is really expensive and my hygienist there left, I decided to try one closer recommended by a work friend. Sadly my new dentist was a bust. sigh. I had scheduled for 8:30 but they called me a few days before and rescheduled me to 12:30 which was ok. Then they called me a few hrs before my appt to say that my xrays would not be covered because I had them done last in July so there would be xtra charge 40 unless I got my old ones transferred. Unfortunately my old dentist is closed on Fridays so that could not happen. I should have rescheduled at that point but thought 40 was not the end of the world.
Anyway, when I got there I got a sort of strange vibe about the place. not sure why. I went back in and the tech came and did a ton of xrays and it took almost 30 minutes. Then the hygienist finally came in and it turns out she was not the regular one but a temp. hmmm. She spent 30 minutes looking at things and then said she wanted to do a deep clean but wanted to talk to the dentist first and I said, hey, I just want a reg cleaning but she left. So I was there an hour and had gotten 0 done. She was gone for a while and after about 10 minutes when I had been there over an hour with a REALLY BAD FEELING I got up and left. I have never done that in the middle of an appt, but I had strange alarms going off in my head about things. too many NQR stuff going on.

Nice running @kgirlhart
Thanks for the pictures @yirara . They are beautiful. I must admit though, that I expected it to all be snow covered.
@SummerSkier I'm sorry your foot is still giving you so many problems. Is it time to go get it x-rayed? Also sorry about the dentist. I think you probably did the correct thing by walking out. I've never done anything like that either, but probably should have a time or two. I did sleep some better last night, just because I didn't have to get up early. But, Garmin still gave me a score of 44 because my stress level was high all night. I'll take that over 4 hours of sleep though.
3 -
@yirara Wow! Thise pictures are awesome!
@SummerSkier Sorry the foot is still giving you trouble. I think you were right to follow your instincts.
@quilteryoyo I am glad you slept better.

Thanks all you lovely people! The temperature was just above freezing on most days, sunny 24/7 (trying to sleep with birds singing their wee hearts out). There was still some snow in protected areas. People said everything should be in bloom about 2 weeks after I left, but there were already lots of tiny flowers around. Totally loved it. The air was so fresh and clear, and all the icebergs from glaciers, fed by the icecap further inland. My creditcard is still crying thus while I totally want to return I'll probably wait for a few years. 😅 If you know how expensive Denmark and Norway are: just add a bit more on top 😓

@John772016 @kgirlhart @quilteryoyo 🙏
Debated whether to go out this morning but sucked it up. Rain started yesterday and supposed to go till tomorrow 🛶. 3 days of wet, rainy, windy and cold. 7c 🥶 Did a 6k wet weather training. ☔️ 200 mile system every which you look and snow in the mountains. Glad I cancelled the backpacking trip, it would have been miserable. Need new shoes and a rain skirt.

Frosty start today but I dithered until 10am so it wasn’t too cold out. Gloves needed but I ditched my jumper after 10 minutes as the sun was quite warm. Did 16k on my local hills. Stunning day for it.
The shortest day is done, bring on the lighter mornings and evenings!
7 -
Thanks @kgirlhart .
Sounds like you really enjoyed your trip @yirara .
That is a huge rain system @WarmJellyfish ! I'm sure it would have been a treadmill day for me.
Great run @ContraryMaryMary . I always feel better just knowing that the days are getting longer.

So after taking a rest day yesterday I did a mile this morning. The Asic shoes are really the best right now. Altho my foot still hurts it is definitely improving and I managed a boyfriend pace. I haven't mentioned before but I do blame my injury on the shoes altho if I had been wearing different shoes I might have had an ankle vs foot injury. The Saucony (yellow) have a design with no support to the outside of where I injured myself. The Asics are like a pillow.
@WarmJellyfish that WEATHER SYSTEM… OMG! My emojies are no longer working on my Mac with this software..
Mary Mary… frosty? not even in my vocab right now. LOL. But maybe Wendy's.
@quilteryoyo sounds like even tho you slept your resting heart rate was not in recovery. Garmin is smart like that. Hopefully it's just anticipation of the trip.
5 -
3km slow, just about. My muscles need to get used to running again as they got stiff and hurt right away. Also should do strength training again but my rib is still injured. Have to say though that it was 32C and very sunny just now and I'm currently not used to that, having been at just above freezing last week :D
6 -
That's rough news @AlphaHowls, I hope the new aide & hospice can ease some of this on you, I know how hard it is.
Nice lake run @chris_in_cal & I felt bad when I slept in & didn't get out until 830 this morning! 😀
Nice runs/walks @quilteryoyo!
Great arctic pics @yirara & nice run, give yourself time.
Nice runs @SummerSkier (your foot was just reminding you who's in charge). I'd be tempted to get up and leave that office too. I would also blame my shoes….., I would probably blame the shoes that I don't think look as cool though😂
A nice & wet 6K @WarmJellyfish, I would've been hitting my treadmill with that weather & forecast!!
Nice 16K @ContraryMaryMary!

Took a couple of rest days as my nerve pain was a bit bad, but back to almost normal this morning.
A real hot one today!Tried to get out a bit earlier but it was already feeling like 32⁰C when I got out the door. Made sure to hit the shady side of the streets/park trails. Ended up deciding to run into a park trail that I knew had a lot of shade.
Got to my turnaround point on that trail and ran into a running crew just finishing their own runs coming the opposite direction. The leader looked at me really confused, he thought I was one of his runners, then eventually realized the guy he was looking for had wandered ahead down another path & called him back😁 & apologized to me (he was giving me directions).
I ran by the guy he had lost as he backtracked to connect to his group, he was at least 15-20 years younger than me, so yep, please feel free to confuse me with him 😂
Despite bringing water with me I still lost 4-5lbs in sweat.2 -
@John772016 4-5 pounds in sweat!! That’s crazy. Hell yeah I would take being confused with someone 20 yrs younger. Lol But seriously sometimes I run long distances just to get the reward on the scale. Right?
Look Snapchat fixed my nose and wrinkles 🤪

I ran 10 miles this morning. It was hot and windy. The wind helped with the temperature, but it was difficult to run in. It was a good run though. I tried to stay in the shade as much as possible. I saw two baby deer running around at the cemetery. They were so cute. When I saw the first one, I thought it was a giant jackrabbit.
The pictures aren't very good, but they were so quick!

Hello from Singapore.
Opted for elliptical (booo!) today, as still a bit sore from that Half effort and opted to watch Game7 of the 🏀 finals on the elliptical screen.
Anyways. Singapore is lovely.
We are staying here in marina bay.

For you @WarmJellyfish
Going KEK for Chilli crab later.
PS: And oh my God... This toilet. My new best friend. Greets you on arrival. Can't upload video. But just auto opens up as you open the door.
Heavenly

That's a world class fisheye shot of people relaxing at the water's edge. Good luck with the jetlag and all the best on your family holiday.

I ran 3.08M at 13'25. It was a set of intervals. This training plan is starting it's taper. I don't really need it, but why not take the taper and enjoy it.
6 -
Great photos @tarun_yadavA I can see that fancy toilet has you fascinated also. Prefer the food and shoe portn tho.
Chris you are doing great! I think this training plan agrees with you and you should stick with it.
@kgirlhart the first time I saw a jack in abilene i thought it was a baby deer. it was so big. those ears! Los of small fawns here too. Nice running in the heat index.
@AlphaHowls hang in there! good running. Love your sunrise photos on strava!
So far this month with injury on Fri 30 May I have hobbled thru 25 miles. Yesterday was the first one with a 12 on the front and I limited it to a mile just for my brain. Realized that wearing my heel sandals actually seems to be better for walking around than my walking shoes. hmmm. I think it puts different pressure on the outside of my foot. Anyway. WOuld have to go back to the start to see what I set as a goal but this is probably the worst running I have done since i broke my toe in early 2017 before I joined MFP. It's a struggle because I am used to a LOT more calories but will see what the damage is after a month. I told myself this was at min a 4 week injury maybe 6 and I am in the middle of the 4th week with some glimmer of improvement. Day by Day.
Yesterday I put a saddle pad on a different place on my bed and it was like a magnet.

Hello everyone, I haven't had a chance to post since last week. We went to a 3 day car rally event held in the area so I was up really early to fit a run in before heading out each day and not home until 8-9pm each evening.
A lot's been happening, good bad and very sad.
@AlphaHowls - I'm really sorry to hear about the tough time you are going through. We are all here for you.
@tarun_yadavA The panel of toilet controls made me laugh
@ContraryMaryMary It's strange to think you have had your shortest day and we have just had our longest day
3 -
121 of 225km, am soooo behind….sigh.
@tarun_yadavA did you bring stretchy pants with all the food?
@SummerSkier hmmm I need to try snapchat….
@John772016 @quilteryoyo I don't have a treadmill or access to one so I'm always forced to go outside and not have any excuses 😁, but I have to train in all conditions. Not to going to quit a race because I'm not used to rain, or snow…🙄
@yirara love the photos!
@ContraryMaryMary the days can only get longer for you now 😁 whilst my place, we just had winter, again, in June …..😶
Bears love snow too….

Hello everyone. I’m back in the USA. I got out for a 4-mile run this morning. My trip to Germany and Austria was wonderful. After three days on my own in Munich, I was with a tour company for the next week. There were 14 people in our group and the company lived up to its name (Active Adventures). We started the day with breakfast and then it was either hiking, biking, kayaking…something throughout the day. We had all our meals together and I fell into bed each night happy and exhausted. I even went paragliding for the first time in my life. It was so amazing sailing through the air! I posted some photos of various scenery on Strava but I just didn’t have any time to post here for the last several days.
@AlphaHowls – Sending you a big virtual hug during this rough season of your life.
Nice photos of the Artic @yirara . Hope the rib is healed soon.
Singapore looks like a great city to visit @tarun_yadavA. I can almost smell that satay!
@WarmJellyfish – Even with the bear print, that snow looks refreshing on a hot day like today. Also, I always save my stretchy pants for the last day of vacation!
Hope your vacation is off to a wonderful start @quilteryoyo !

Great pics of Singapore @tarun_yadavA!
Nice runs @AlphaHowls, @kgirlhart & @chris_in_cal!
Just heard it's 36⁰C (feeling like 46⁰C with humidex) a new record for June for Toronto. Luckily I got out a bit earlier, it was only feeling like 31⁰C!

Today's original plan, as I couldn't get out early due to an appointment, was to fire up the treadmill so I could avoid this heat @WarmJellyfish.
Unfortunately, my building's AC failed yesterday afternoon and still isn't working (they've been downstairs trying to fix it for hours both yesterday & today)Hoping they get the AC fixed sometime soon, only slept an hour or so last night…..
No real point running hot inside on a treadmill vs running hot outside, so, outside I went.
Did a slow run, stopping several times to mop up my face & drink a bunch of water from the bottle I brought with me. Kept the run short, flat & with as much shade as I could find.5 -
Morning all.
I got a run in. 2.5M at 10'35.
Incredibly stiff… been eating so unhealthily since I got here; so today was struggle bus in the humidity.
Thanks everyone for the comments! 😊
@Teresa502 glad you had a great trip! And glad you enjoyed doing some of it solo / with a group of strangers. I first did some solo aged 41 - intimidating as hell to start with, but really glad I did it.
@WarmJellyfish KEK for the chilli crab.
Off to Borneo 🦧 now. Unlikely to run for next 3-4 days.

I ran 6 miles this morning. It was 76° and it just felt hot. I was slow and sluggish starting out, but I started picking up speed and felt pretty good by the end of the run.
I am loving all of the great pictures. I am not always good about mentioning everyone by name, but I do read all if your posts and like and hug where appropriate.

@tarun_yadavA oldest boy is looking like a MAN these days? How did that happen? Seems they were small toddlers yesterday.
@John772016 that is awful about the ac. I have a temp window unit which I possibly could use if mine goes out and everyone says use fans but I hate that. Hope it is fixed soon.
@WarmJellyfish um.. BEAR track?!!!!!!! wow. I think perhaps I might have to try a different trail.
Did 2 miles yesterday at BF pace - and not sure what today will hold. I also managed some tennis which I was VERY unsure about but turned out to be ok. The injured area of my foot is not something I use when playing tennis so it was not an issue but we did just play for 30 minutes as it was pretty hot and we haven't played in a few weeks.
5 -
I ran 5 miles this morning. It was 72F but felt so oppressive. Took several walking breaks. Need to start carrying water on my run. Didn’t even pass by a sprinkler to run through this morning.
@tarun_yadavA – I agree with @SummerSkier - your oldest is all grown up! That food dish looks very spicy.
@John772016 – Hope your AC is fixed by now.
4 -
Did a short recovery run yesterday, supposed to be relaxing pace but ended up tempoing it. Sure I'm going to pay the price today for the threshold run. 😐️ Let's see if I can do better than 0% execution score this time 😂 planning on some hills along the way, that should get the HR up.
@Teresa502 paragliding is fun!
@John772016 hate humdity, one reason I moved to my current locale!
@tarun_yadavA I think you and I are the only ones who know what Chilli crab tastes like. I make my own these days except we don't have the mudcrabs here. Dungeness will do!
@kgirlhart @Teresa502 nice runs. 20c/68f is hot for me! Sunday morning was 5c and I was sweating like mad.
@SummerSkier they are just teddy bears. We have black, brown and grizzlies here.
Hanging out with a bear even on a kayak. This fella is the reason why I now know why teddy bears look like teddy bears.
Grizzly mama and cub, too busy digging for grubs to be interested in us. We're not tasty enough.
6 -
Yesterday very easy barbell session. My rib is still not happy with deadlifts, but otherwise it was mostly ok.
Ran 3.2km today. Running going a bit better than last time, but my muscles are still not happy.5 -
Nice runs @tarun_yadavA, @kgirlhart, @SummerSkier, @Teresa502, @WarmJellyfish & @yirara!

Our building AC started working again early last evening so it was almost comfortable by the time I went to bed, good thing as the heatwave continues here.
Was feeling like 34⁰C when I went outside for my run this morning (& 37⁰C when I got back 29 minutes later)! I had to stop after about 2 & 1/2 miles to let myself cool down a bit & down some water!

I ran 2.76M at 12'04. A nice run, I didn't feel leadfooted.
Pretty perfect weather...sorry to hear about all you heat dome (and NZ ice dome) runners.

It was 76°f degrees again at 5:40 am. I ran a 6.3 mile interval runs. I think I saw a beaver today. It was swimming in the creek . I didn't get a good look at the tail, so it is possible that it was a nutria, but I think it was a beaver.
