  • That I retired from the Army after 24 years and still shoot qualification with pistol and rifle just to keep my skills up. I'm ready for the zombie apocalypse!
  • I've been on MFP for two years, I'd lost nearly 20 lbs and have found all but one so I'm back. Both of my parents are overweight and I see the health problems it's caused them and I know I don't want that for myself. Until a few years ago I didn't concern myself with my weight because I managed it through vigorous…
  • Wow. Did I mention wow? Really, wow and oh yeah, more bikini pics please....
  • I'd say that anytime you excercise is a good time. It beats the alternative which is not excercising at all...
  • Beth, just a thought. You said that you've gained and lost, gained and lost and from the sounds of things you're primary activity was cardio. There's nothing wrong with trying something different and perhaps getting different results. Ultimately it comes down to commitment and a little physiology. Muscle burns calories.…
  • Totally understand. My entire family is overweight or obese. The difference is I've seen the damage it's done to them and the lost years of life and I refuse to give up one second. Yes it's a battle tracking what I eat and not eating some of the things I think I want. It sucks getting up at 4:45 every morning to work out…
  • I try to eat back about half my workout calories. You have to listen to your body. If you aren't feeling hungry then don't eat to make a number. My target is 1,500 calories per day for now but I'm about 10 pounds from going into maintenance so I've been wondering the same thing.
  • You have to decide when you're willing to say enough is enough. Don't let it be about the number on the scale though. Health and fitness may be reflected in that number but it's about all the periphery that is really important. Body mass, blood pressure, cholesterol, that's what will end your time with your kids. Focus on…
  • Agree with almonds, just make sure you measure!
  • What's wrong with 6 sets of 5 minutes? It beats hell out of 0 sets of 0 minutes. You will build endurance IF you continue.
  • Until you admit to yourself that your drinking is a problem, no amount of advice or input is going to help. No program, AA or otherwise, is going to have the answer. You have to decide that you've had enough and you really want to stop. I hope for your sake you make the decision before you bottom out. It's a long hard road…

  • That's easy, I want to live longer and have a better quality of life! Oh, and I want to look good naked!
  • First of all congratulations!! C25K is not a joke, it's a lot of work. I would urge you to finish the program and then following begin interval training. Run for 30 minutes and then at the end, run from one light post to the next as quickly as you can and then walk to the next light post and then sprint again. I'd suggest…
  • The a$$hat that mentioned the Marines running around looking like Bane and Aholes may want to accompany them on their next deployment to Afghanistan. I've used them in preparation for a deployment, usually while either road marching or running. Really didn't see the point in using it at the gym.
  • Any additional motivators are always a great idea! Maybe I should have my workout imprinted on a beer coozie...
  • I think you might be over thinking it but that's just what I think...
  • All of this and worse if there are either margaritas or beer involved. My worst was at Cheesecake Factory and I had the Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo. I knew with the cheese sauce it would be bad but over 1,800 calories?
  • Not so true. Both of my sons open doors for others (without regard to gender) because I set an example for them to follow. When either of our sons are with us I don't open doors for their mother because they beat me to it. While I agree with the premise that manners are taught I believe that the best teaching method is…
  • Not sure who made that recommendation but I've been working consecutive days for years.
  • Have you considered that at 2,000 calories a day you may be wasting your time with weights because your body has nothing left to build muscle with? Also, at 6'4/174 your BMI is actually less than 22 and you're right in the middle of ideal BMI? I think if you focus on your fitness level and ignore the numbers you might be a…
  • Maybe your pants just aren't tight enough?

  • After thinking about some of the comments on here it occurred to me, skinny isn't nearly as fun to look at as fit. You aren't going to get fit without excercise

  • That's my point. Tyson never faced a fighter as gifted and smart as Ali. I'd also suggest you watch a couple of Ali's fights. He took some punishment.

  • All of what you've seen here. Aches and soreness? Welcome to the weight lifting side of life!! It means you must be doing something right.
  • Ali was a fighter, if it was going to take 15 it would go 15. Tyson was a brawler and couldn't spell sweet science
