Awesome. You look like you are at the most 120. You are definitely proof that numbers can be misleading. Great Job!

Welcome to MFP, Nise. Is the only difference between the two tapes the abs workout?

I will admit I was floored that this particular person accused me of starting an argument. She also stated that I was rude and snotty to everyone that tried to understand what I was trying to explain. I am officially denying this, but I can understand where she is coming from.

If you don't have time for "people like that" as you put it, then why did you reply back to this thread?

When I first started using calculators other than MFP I was always given the option to put in the amount of days I exercise. After entering in all my stats, it would say you need 1600 to maintain your weight. It would then say to subtract at least 500 from that number, to create a calorie deficit. So enter MFP. They don't…

I know. I have been trying to correct my initial understanding of eating back my calories. I thought MFP was giving me 1200 calories based on my exercising, but I now know that they were not. Amen.

Me too!

Here, here!

I think you should post this as a new topic. it will really help newbies such as myself when they first come here. Great Reply and thanks!

It took a few days for what you and mostly everyone is saying. But I get it now:) MFP was already giving me my deficit. I sit all day so I can lose weight at 1200 calories without exercising. Since realizing this, I have been eating back my calories.
-
Yes. You are right. I have since learned that MFP is already giving me my deficit.

Yes! Name, names. Just kidding:)

It was the post that explained my new insight on the whole eating back your calories topic. I have since become enlightened, but there was one poster who kept saying I wasn’t getting it and well, it just set me off a little.

Most treadmills assume you are 150lbs. I weight 132lbs and hold 16lb weights on my legs while running. This way I can effectively rely on what my treadmill reads.

When you first entered your goals into MFP, it asked you about your Activity Level. In this case, MFP would like to know what you do through out the day. I am sedentary, which means I sit all day for 8 hours. To maintain my weight I must eat around 1600 calories.MFP knows this. MFP also knows I want to lose weight so it…

That is a very good method. I do it too, but still find myself with over 300 calories to consume to make my caloric goal.
-
Go for it sistah!
-
I like this method, best. I see a trainer 2X a week so on those days, I will have a protein shake prior to my workouts and afterwards go home and finish my remaining calories.

Do you own an ipod? If so, download music that have a fast tempo or just some of your favorites. Music is a great motivator. You can also watch television assuming a TV is nearby.

I was feeling the same way at one point. I would get on and off the scale to see if maybe I was standing on it wrong. I would move the scale to other parts of the room, etc. etc. I began to realize the scale was not to be completely relied upon. You are fitting into your HS clothes when at one point you were not. That is…

The level of your activity level determines the number you were given. When you simply subtract 500 from your unwanted maintence weight you are not considering your activity level. But when you select an activity level on MFP it will give you EXACTLY what you need to eat.

In order to get your correct summaries, you should break it out. So starting at 12:00 calculate your caloric amount and cals you think you burned dancing

Well I guess my metabolism is just faster than most. Because I have not eaten any of my exercise calories since joining and I have lost over 8lbs and have gone down from a size 6 to a size 4. So I am not missing the point. But thanks, just the same.
-
Thanks for the explanation. But, I'm sure you have experienced times when you were not even hungry enought to eat back all the exericise calories. 90% of my workouts are at night. When I get home from the gym MFP says I need to eat 700 more calories. Its not that I don't want to, I physically cannot. This is why I wrote…

You make a interesting point. You say... Some days All..... some days 1/2...... But SOME of them. But what you don't say is that you are eating them All everyday? But congrats on your weight loss.

I want to thank everyone for all of their feed back. I also would like you to visit the following link. It is a calculator I used before joining MFP. I encourage everyone to visit this site and plug in their stats. Then, compare those numbers with the ones MFP is giving you. It just comes to show that we can't rely on…

Yes. I understand now. I remembered putting in "Active" for my Activity Level. By doing this, a caloric deficit was already created for me, right?
