Extra calories gained from exercise

I am wondering if people on here generally eat the extra calorie allowance gained from your calories burned, or do stick to the 1200 calories and leave a deficit?

My goal is to lose weight, so I'm thinking I shouldn't eat the extra calories unless I'm starving.

Thanks for your help, Heather :-D

You already have a deficit at 1200. MFP is set up so that you can lose weight without exercising. If you burn cals, those are extra. You can eat them. And since your goal is so low, you *should* eat them. Taking in too few calories can stall weight loss after a while.

Most of the time I don't eat them, mainly because once it gets to the end of the day and I have had dinner but still have 500+cals extra for exercise I am not going to just for the sake of eting the cals.

  • hi heather :-) im not really sure about this one, i do agree with ajweekley but im also finding it hard to eat all that allowance lol. i do regular exercise, in the last two weeks i have gone from 11st 2lb to 10st 7lb :-) i am quite impressed with myself as i have also lost 2inch of my waist & hips. yet still eating pretty much the same food as i always have. i only joined this yesterday so i am keen to make new friends so that we can support each other and help each other to gain our goals. im still finding my way round the site at the moment but it is fab! wish you all the best and hope you acheive what you wish for.

I eat most of the calories I burn working out, but not all. I know that if I am hungry all of the time and feeling deprived, I will not stick with it. So I eat most of those extra calories, I feel satisfied, and I'm losing weight. If I stop losing, I may adjust how many of my exercise calories I eat.
  • I started in December and in the beginning I was not eating them. Many of my friends kept telling me that I should. It was only until recently that I started eating some of them. I usually end up with a deficit of 500 to 600 calories. I work out at 8-8:30 PM and by the time I get home it's around 10PM and I refuse to stuff 500-600 calories in my body right before I go to bed. I suggest eating some of them.

When I was using the machine calorie totals I only ate about half my exercise calories since I didn't fully trust the machines. With my HRM, I eat closer to all of them each day, depending on the day.

And I also work out in the evenings, but I rotate the same three or four cardio machines each time and know my general calorie burn for how long I plan to work out on each of them. So I enter my workout calories in the morning and plan my meals and snacks through the day so I don't suddenly find myself at 10pm with hundreds of calories left.

That is a very good method. I do it too, but still find myself with over 300 calories to consume to make my caloric goal.

hrm.,. i come at it from a different angle. i usually get pretty close to my goal if not go over on most days. so rather than eat to get the calories ive lost from excersising, i excersise to lose the calories ive gained from eating :P
