  • I'm outside too. I don't know if I'd like using a treadmill to set my pace, I'm more interested in reaching distance goal then time at this point.
  • Congrats, and you might look into couch to 5K, it worked for me.
  • I am so glad you shared your story and know you'll have many more great NSVs related to shopping in the future. I remember that day for me, it was a Banana Republic and I too cried. My husband got me the dress I cried over for Christmas... and now it's a couple sizes too big so I have to have it tailored.
  • 1. Your eyes lie to you, measure your food. 2. Carbs are not your friend, you are insulin resistant. 3. Yes, exercise will hurt until your joints get stronger but eventually that too shall pass and you can start in a pool. 4. Couch to 5K is amazing. 5. Your not just going to be more healthy, you can put your diagnosed…
  • I'm insulin resistant so for me carbs are of the devil and impact my weight loss. If you are not I'd still argue that there are probably better ways to get calories then carbing out but for most people a calorie is a calorie is a calorie.
  • I think I would get a second opinion just based on the fact that cardiologist pretty much means he's an expert on hearts not nutrition and diet. Could you be making better food choices sure, but If you eat twinkies and beer all day you'll lose weight if you're eating less then you're burning so take baby steps as you need…
  • I had to give it up cold turkey, I've been clean for 10 months now and can totally identify with the symptoms you had, the good news is if you want to quit you can but that first week is going to suck and you'll still have cravings for a month. After that it gets easy but one drink and you'll be starting all over again.
  • my skin seems to be trying to tighten. (I'll be a year out in May and am still losing slowly) I have lost a size without losing any weight this month so I can only attribute that to the skin shrinking. I have lost about what your ticker says is your goal and while it's not the pretty skin of my youth when I'm naked, it…
  • gosh even early on post surgery I would sometimes go a week or two with no results on the scale then plot a couple pounds just vanished. I'm a daily scale kind of girl but some women can't do that, sounds like if you expect movement every day you're looking at the numbers for the wrong reason. Use the fluctuations to learn…
  • Thank you, I just feel out of my chair laughing. I've heard of going weak in the knees but who knew I could go weak in the butt and slip out of a chair. I'm not sure this is sabotage but if it impacts my ability to take my diet seriously I'll be back to blame you. :)
  • congrats, my NSV of the day is someone called me skinny.
  • I eat when I'm bored. My general rule is not to bring anything in the house that I wouldn't want to put in my mouth. If I need a food binge I have safe foods or drinks like sugar free, or crazy low calorie for the volume and I keep both sweet and salty just in case it's that time of the month.
  • nick name is Minx and one day I came across a cross word where an answer was Mink so a little play on words and I created a name out of mink across
  • Sharing is totally the new way to eat out with our family. If hubby and I can't agree on something to split, I split with one or two of the kids; depending on the place to eat sometimes one entree feeds all four of us.
  • nope, I struggle to keep my fruit, fiber and water up so I don't get constipated which seems to be my default problem.
  • Eating more = how I got fat in the first place! I'm thrilled for all the young people who exercise enough that they can eat tons of calories now and still lose weight. That is not me nor do I care. I have yet to see any mythical starvation mode at my 1200 calorie diet which I've been on for over a year, if I stall out I…
  • I can't imagine doing it on a treadmill but that said I repeated weeks all the way through. The goal was to get in shape and run 5K not do it on anyone elses time schedule. Do be careful about pushing the pace you can always focus on speed once you can go the distance.
  • this is why I told so few people. I applaud you for standing up for yourself! It's true though, if you work at it, if you make the changes that are going to last, it's not cheat. There are those of us who don't listen to the rules who look for ways around them and do in fact gain it back. Like you I don't plan to be one of…
  • wasn't really a coffee drinker pre surgery but a few months out I tried it and liked it and it's almost a daily routine for me. I use spenda and milk in it and it hasn't seemed to bother my tummy or my weight loss.
  • have the RNY on May 15th 2012. I have never felt better and other then one good cry over my hair thinning out and a couple of emotional moments when I had a hormone surge It has been an amazing journey that I would not hesitate to do over again. No more diabetes, no more getting out of breath using the stairs or getting…
  • then maybe you need some sensitivity training since the first thing that came to mind after reading this was... So it's totally okay for me to say rude things about black people and make assumptions about them because I work with inner city kids, and do outreach to jails, where most of my clients are black. I mean that's…
  • had that thought myself. The level of offense I've managed to take from this whole thread though is beyond the pale. There is a serious message that somehow you are not a good person or will be a bad parent just because you either started out fat when you got pregnant or gained too much weight while pregnant.
  • The longest stall I had was the one all the RNYers get a few weeks out from surgery and it lasted for 6 weeks. I now only stall for a week or so lose a pound or two then stall while the body is shrinking and then the scale moves again. I know that the "tool" loses its effectiveness in year two but short of you having eaten…
  • welcome and best of luck reaching your goals.
  • A lot of it depends on what approach you are taking. Some people who were already eating close to healthy and just adding exercise often see inches first others who make radical changes see the scale move first but I'd say the bulk of my MFP friends and I see a 5-10 pound scale bumb then we shrink, scale moves, we shrink,…
  • Goal was achieved with room to spare. Current 146.4! I am only 1.4 pounds from my ticker goal, my first finish line and a normal BMI. Soon I need decide if I need to lose any vanity weight.
  • Very proud to say I'm 5 pounds lighter then my license says and that weight hasn't been updated since 1993. The picture is from over a hundred pounds ago though so it's sort of funny when I get asked for ID because they think it's not mine until I explain I lost weight.
  • ^this Seriously 9lbs in 16 days! If you think you're doing something then your problems might be better addressed by a mental health professional, and I'm not trying to be snarky here, I'm serious, our head gets in the way of our success more often then not and you are running a marathon here not a sprint so talk to…
