That's tough. For me (4:30 AM on workout days) it only works if I have everything laid out ahead of time. If I have to think anything about what to wear or pack for lunch I'm a goner. I imagine working out at home would be a little different, but I'm sure it wouldn't hurt. Also, it's a huge motivator to know that the worst…

You definitely started out too fast. I used to struggle with that too. I'd start at what I felt was a reasonably easy pace but then 5 minutes later I'd be huffing and puffing and ready to throw in the towel and go home. I really enjoy running outside, so I got a running watch (there are some pretty inexpensive ones if you…

I would be nervous as well, but there has to be a way for you to be able to live your life anyway. My suggestion, leave them a note explaining your plan. Invite them to let you know if that time is horribly inconvenient. Otherwise, maybe 3 taps with the broom handle to say "I'm trying to take a nap/have company over/etc"…

Hey! I totally understand the feeling of "why try". If I consciously been trying to lose weight at the beginning than I probably wouldn't have ever started. However, it started as a happy accident and then I realized how easy it really could be ("easy" of course being a relative term). Something to keep in mind. You get…

That's a tricky one. In my family, you can't have a vacation without good food and lots of it (that's half the fun, right?). The last few vacations I've gone in with a "I'm going to eat whatever and whenever I want" mentality and it's kicked me in the butt. My long weekend vacation turned into a full week of junk food and…

That was a very well written, thought-provoking post. Thank you for sharing your story with us. Congrats on your progress so far!

I would definitely check and make sure he's okay with the no access part (sometimes they say "whatever" when they really mean something else). If he truly is okay with it, make sure he's aware of the progress you're making together. Even if it's silly thermometer picture on the fridge or monthly print outs of the account.…

My suggestion would be to create a 2nd savings account and set up an automatic transfer. Have it automatically transfer over an agreed upon amount every payday (or every month, whatever works better) with a clear understanding that there is NO withdrawing from that account, come hell or high water. That way the money isn't…

I pretty much posted the same rant yesterday. I've lost 45 pounds and have gone down a single pant size. Argh! However, I am clearly looking better and more slender, but it would sure by nice if my pants agreed with the mirror.

Thank you, everyone. I'm feeling much more encouraged about where I'm at right now. It sounds like I'll be searching for youtube videos about how to properly take my own measurements.

Are you hungry, or are you bored? My first suggestion would be to up your goal to 1500 or 1600 calories. I know you say you eat that already, but if you planned on eating that much everyday, it may take your mind of of how much you're having to restrict yourself. If you were, in fact, only eating 1200 per day, then genuine…

A large Papa Murphy's Cowboy pizza (no sausage, extra mushrooms), tub of cookie dough, and a 2 liter of Dr. Pepper. Or an entire Taco Bell restaurant. It's a toss-up.

I used to take a half gallon carton of OJ to work in the morning and finish it by the end of my shift. This was obviously before I had a proper understanding of how calories worked, but it was FANTASTIC.

I don't intentionally have cheat days, but on the weekends I allow myself to eat at maintenance. An extra 500 calories sure feels like "cheating." I think of it as a pause rather than a step backward.

When I got winded teaching my cousin how to serve a volleyball. You shouldn't have to struggle to breath after swinging a single arm. Started jogging the next day and 6 weeks later ran a mile straight for the first time in my life.

Keep going! I still hate running while I'm doing it, but I also feel like a total bad @$$ afterwards. We are RUNNERS! My 245 pound self would never have believed it. As for your speed, don't worry about it. Speed will come later. I've had to re-do the C25K this year because I took quite of bit of time off. I'm still happy…

Nutella. Not a huge fan.

popcorn! Eat until you pop < 200 calories.

P.S. You absolutely CAN pull that off!

For me there are no good substitutes, so I just eat less of the good stuff. For instance, I eat half a kit kat bar for dessert at work every day. 105 calories isn't too difficult to make fit into my calorie coal. Also, frozen yogurt is a lower calorie option for ice cream and it tastes almost as good. Just make sure to…

Personally if it were me, I would start a little slower. Maybe 1400 calories and working out 3 to 5 times a week? Imagine yourself starting to run 3 miles as fast as you can. If you haven't worked out in a while, I can imagine you'll be too winded to run after about 30 seconds of all out effort. Losing weight is very…

Going for a bike ride or run and not feeling like I stick out like a sore thumb.
-
Wow. That would be devastating. While I agree that it's totally a d*ck thing to say, I'm not so eager to jump onto the "get rid of him" bandwagon. You said he's not usually unkind. Is this true? Did this come out of nowhere? If so, it's possible that got caught off guard and totally flubbed up trying to say something that…

I am soooo not a morning person, so most people who know me would be shocked to hear this, but I actually prefer to work out in the morning. I wake up at the crack of dawn, throw on my workout gear and go. It gives me a full hour to wake up without actually having to talk to anyone, and sometimes I'm too tired to care that…

Great info. I got a bike for my birthday yesterday and am looking forward to adding it to my workout routine. Running is getting too dull.

This probably isn't the most healthy suggestion, but when have been feeling hungry all day and can't seem to ever get full, I eat a ton of popcorn. It's really low calorie and I can eat and eat and not do too much damage. Every so often, it's worth it just to feel like I didn't have to limit myself for once. I'm also…

Yeah, that freaks me out too. I've seen a bunch of SUV's with the entire family of stick figures including names. That, in combination with the "support such and such elementary school" bumper sticker makes it WAY to easy.

Absolutely normal. I was about the same stats as you when I started several years ago. It takes the lungs a few weeks to adapt, but after that it will get easier and easier to breathe (the legs/stamina will still be a mind game, but you'll won't actually HAVE to stop like you do for oxygen). Just keep going. You should…
