  • I don't know how you have your apps and APIs setup, so your mileage may vary. In my case, I use Garmin Connect, and Zwift feeds into that. I normally go into Garmin Connect and delete the duplicate entry from Zwift.

  • If you want to buy direct, cool. It will save you money. Cervelo vs Canyon? They're both great. I purchased my SpeedMax direct from Canyon. It arrived intact in a large, well engineered packing box. They had a URL to instructions on assembly, but I just jumped in and figured it out. I did look at the comparable Cervelo…
  • Goals: - To achieve a longstanding goal goal of losing 100 lbs. With 5 lbs to go, it is now a short term goal I'd like to achieve by December. - To run a six minute mile before turning 57 in January. (6:12 three days ago) - To get to race weight (180 lbs) before June and run a 5:40 mile at that weight - To win a triathlon…
  • Congratulations. I'm on a similar journey, down about 95 lbs and now doing triathlons at age 56. It feels good to be fast, eh? I train with athletes that are in their 30s and 40s, and while they have lower body fat and greater cardio-pulmonary efficiency, I'm more stubborn. And when you're pushing through that pain cave in…
  • 83 pounds since starting MFP. Sitting at about 18% BF now, so I have a bit more to go.
  • Lovely, and brings back nice memories. I've hiked into Trapper Lake twice, but not in about 20 years. I think it's right near there.
  • Trying to put a device on your wrist while doing kettlebell workouts seems inherently problematic. One-handed swings are going to be inaccurate and nobody wants to have a kettlebell bang into their fancy sports watch. In addition, heart rate monitoring of strength or strength-endurance activities isn't telling you…
  • Swam a mile and straight to a 10k run. Essentially 2/3 of an Olympic Tri. Sunday is 45 minutes of circuit training followed by a 2.5 hour bike ride.
  • AM: Jog 7 miles at a recovery pace. PM: Swim team practice: Probably about 2400 meters. Mostly 100-200m intervals after a warmup. Some pull buoy stuff mixed in.
  • I'm age 56 and being about 220 at around 18% body fat. I like to run but notice the weakness in my physiology is my Achilles tendon. I just can't run on my toes very much. Landing flat footed and trying to distribute the weight seems to work for me. Even running flat foot presents some limitations in terms of the stress I…
  • As you age you gotta train smarter. Your body won't cover for you if you have poor eating and training habits. There is a book that really helped me in that regard. It is by an influential author/coach in the triathlon & running world, Joel Friel, entitled, "Fast After 50: How to Race Strong for the Rest of Your Life". It…
  • AM Workout: New Workout and new FTP. Couldn't complete at 100%. Next time will try it at 96% Then I did a 4 mile run with my dog, recovery pace, and then some stretching.
  • The way I think of it, when you are young you train for fun or glory or excitement. Later you train because it centers you and makes you complete. Still later you train to remain healthy. Eventually you train to fight against your greatest opponent, age, the one who stalks us all. Your greatest opponent will be age.
  • Two workouts: AM: Treadmill run. 15 minutes warmup low in my aerobic zone. Then 15x(30 sec @ 5 min/mile pace followed by 2 minutes at 10 min mile pace). After that 10 minute CD. Hour total. PM: Active Recovery ride: Stationary trainer (Kickr). 1 hour 15 minutes at or around 200 watts. Cadence around 65.
  • I've run into symptoms like that on long (racing) bike rides where I ran my body out of calories and my liver out of glycogen. I felt terrible. I looked it up and found some sports docs talking about the issue. I cannot do justice to the details of the physiology. However, the consensus advice was 'feed your workouts'. I…
  • Run a 6 minute mile by June and a 5:30 mile by September Average speed of >25 mph in a sprint triathlon on the bike Win my age group in a sprint triathlon this season Take 40 minutes off my time for Olympic distance triathlons and setup to be competitive at the Olympic distance for next season
  • I rack up 10 mile runs weekly and train the next day all the time. My experience is that it kinda depends on how you feel. (Right now I feel great.) But to my way of thinking, the long run usually IS recovery. It is actually the short max intervals that leave me wiped, and I usually take my rest day after that.
  • I'm not sure I have a favorite, 'cept may be 400 repeats at the track. But it's way too soggy to do that today. Here's what I got for today on the bike trainer after swim practice.
  • I concur with MobyCarp above. The basic point is to make weight training specifically support and enhance your event and not to have it work against you. Distance running specific stuff will emphasize lighter weight, stabilizers, flexibility and core work and not much in the way of heavy prime movers. (Except short…
  • "The King of Hearts", old French foreign film depicting a napoleonic war era village in which two armies fight to the death, the villagers flee and the people in the insane asylum come out and start running the town. Seems like a good metaphor for today. For the suspenseful use of silence in the soundtrack: "The Shining".
  • It depends on what you're looking for. If appearance is most important and if you're looking for someone pleasant to guide you through a low intensity hypertrophy routine, well, talk to them, consider their fashion choices and ask yourself if you find them entertaining. There are a lot of those trainers. Pick one--it…
  • Maybe I’m old fashioned, but for swimming what I do is cut and paste my workout into a word document, print it out, fold up the paper and put it in a ziploc baggie at the edge of the pool. Works every time. Have used the training peaks applet for running without any problems.
  • My preference would be to buy an adjustable sit/stand desk and to have a conventional bike with a smart trainer. I doubt it would be cheaper but would have the advantage if being more versatile.
  • Although there are no trails, there is a mountaineering route from Cascade pass to nearby Trapper Lake. It’s absolutely beautiful. ‘Cept maybe for the marmot that chased me away from his den, the grizzly bear that went through our neighboring campers’ campsite, and the after dark repelling we wound up doing the first trip…
  • My definition for the term ‘clean eating’ is psychological, not dietary. There is a portion of a person’s eating habits that the self rejects. That which is remains is considered acceptable, even ‘clean’. So, if the above premise is true and if there is no dietary or scientific definition of the term ‘clean eating’, then…
  • There is a clean eating group on MFP. Perhaps the OP might feel right at home there.
  • Yes, I’ve lost weight without doing a low carb diet, almost 90 lbs. What seems to work for me is eating sensibly, journaling my food intake as well as my exercise calories burned. Note: Every time I stopped journaling and did what they call ‘intuitive eating’ I gained anout 5 pounds per month, like clockwork.
  • I have a road bike niw and will probably buy a time trial bike in 2019.
  • I'd like to follow up with a question. As I look at how to jump into power-based cycling training I find myself researching different devices, such as power pedals and stationary smart trainers. Thus my question: Does anybody have advice on how to get going with power-based training without the expense of buying a smart…
