  • Hell, yes. I like my food, and by that I mean pizza, crisps, cream cakes - but I understand the need to keep the weight down  Exercise is how I do it. You can't spend all you're time eating lettuce in case you get fact (no offense intended to any lettuce eaters:devil: )
  • I do both. I ride to work each day, and run about 3 times a week (i very occassionally run to work). Cycling is, by far, less stressful on the majorty of the body. According to my GP, cycling puts around 4 times your body wieght through your legs. For running, increase that to 12 times. I only got into running about 12…
  • This makes sense. It's much easier to burn some extra calories on holiday (when you're likely to be more active than normal anyway) than to watch what you eat. But also important is that you have to find time to enjoy yourself. You are on holiday and it's only 10 days. Provided you're not going mental at an all you can eat…
  • A very similar story to a lot of people on here. But it doesn't matter why you're here, now you are you've made the first step. Intergrating exercise/fitness/healthy eating into a daily schedule looks tough, but once you've achieved it you'll wonder what the fuss was about. Small changes at first and use the forums here…
  • Sex on the Beach.....in my pants Stand and Deliver....in my pants
  • The constant march of time will take me to the big 4-0 next year. Although in the last 12 months I've been fitter than I have been since my 20s. MFP has been a bog part of that.
  • Glasgow. Hi all.
  • I think this is a great idea - honestly. I can't wait to see their faces when I suggest this the next time someone pipes up with "what about a wee team lunch - for a treat". (Honestly, why didn't I think of this before!!)
  • This was one of the very first steps I took. Well meaning colleagues bringing in sweets and home-made cakes etc. Friday treats from the 'goody cupboard', etc. It's cold turkey, honestly. There's none of this, "I'll just have one" or "just a wee bit of cake", so I cut it all out. No communal treats allowed. Now I'm not…
  • Page and a half in and already there's a dozen things I want to say, but if I had to pick one, I'd go with... pizza (partly because you can put a number of nasty calorie toppings on it and they'd be free too  )
  • Everyone has their own pre-race routines, and you'll find out what works and what doesn't. However a couple of things are pretty standard. - Drink sufficient water on the two days before the race, and just a normal amount in the morning of the race. For a 5K this will get you plenty hydrated to the end (and you wont need a…
  • I'm in sunny (for once) Glasgow. All wlecome to add

  • Thanks. Good sources of potassium; would I be right in saying bananas are one?
  • Unfortunately, yes. If you want a drink (and I partake as well), best thing to do is to schedule a little exercise in to compensate. As someone said earlier, choose your drink wisely as well as the calorie range is quite significant. I have moved away from beer/lager on the whole and now drink more wine, especially red.
  • I'll log my fruit, no problem, but I don't tend to log vegetables for example, I have some salad witha meal. Fo me, it gets too bitty and provided I'm not adding a sauce, the calorie count is pretty insignifcant.
  • Deactiveated account. Shame, I was going to send a friend request. How can you refuse such generous support

  • I would say there are no odd motives for losing weight - everyone has different reasons why and they are all valid. Because you want to get back into shape is a perfectly valid reason, and all the more because you want to compete at a higher level in sport you love (I have got to find some of this on YouTube to watch). As…
  • All a bit highbrow on this page so far. I have three new (to me) Terry Pratchett books waiting for (while we wait and wait and wait for the next Game of Thrones instalment), but I've missed one or two so while waiting for Amazon to deliver it some to Terry Brook's Shanara series. Just finished The Last Templar by Raymound…
  • Another Scot. Active on here everyday. Please feel free to add

  • I don't take my phone. For music, I have an iPod shuffle. Nice and small and compact and just clips onto trousers/t-shirt/etc. For my keys, I have trousers/shorts that have a small pocket in the back for just that. I like to be unencumbered when running, so don't fancy the idea of a armband either.
  • I once saw this program that indicated how much fat was in crisps. They set one on fire with a lighter and watched it burn (very quickly). Wouldn't say it cured me, but i certainly cut down after that. The other one I've mentioned on similar threads it to brush your teeth (preferrably minty toothpaste) before eating them.…
  • Yes. Even engaged in mock swordpaly with wooden swords?
  • Toothpaste - nothing tastes the same after toothpaste Unless, like other posters, I have allowed space for a treat, in which case, yummy
  • Star Wars
  • Hey Ben. Times are very similar to mine. Been running for about 8 months now and have 4 10Ks booked for later this year. No snow in Scotland, where I live anyway, but weather is still rubbish. Please feel free to add

  • Married, no kids. Nice house, good job, but not too high profile. Food shopping done in Tesco or Waitrose - doesn't eat takeaway. No pets, possibly allergic, or hayfever. Enjoys walks and nice clothes but, like a lot of us, feels Primark can be good for value. Watches soaps and X-factor, as well as the snooker and Ski…
  • I cycle to and from work. Not only is it quicker than the bus (when you take into account the walk to the bus stop). Does it ffor me during the week. I'll through in a couple of runs, maybe a swim at night as well - when the kids are in bed.
  • I lost four in one go the last time. Invested in a pair of blister proof socks as a result. Can't say the problem has been fixed forever, but it's not happened since. Part of my problem was the seam of the sock rubbing on the top of my toes. I've also been told that Vaseline will help and also someone suggested urine will…
