I'm not sure if this is the same thing, but I have problems with my feet (metatarsalgia as well as nerve damage). So exercise is really hard for me and I get really frustrated/depressed about it. Mindfulness has really helped me. Are you familiar with that idea? It's basically stepping outside what you're experience and…

I eat whatever I want on the weekend. My husband works swing shifts and we never see each other during the week. So on the weekend, when I'm spending time with my husband, I eat whatever I want. We eat out. We go to the movies and get snacks. We go for coffee and get high calorie fun beverages. I'm down 22 lbs since…

I'm planning to try this over the coming weekend. http://www.ditchthecarbs.com/2017/05/22/low-carb-spring-rolls/

Hi Mom2Scott, I've been diabetic for a few years now and I've found that the medical recommendations for diabetes are not good. I would suggest looking into the low-carb lifestyle. Or, depending on how aggressive you want to be, even the IF community. Google "Jason Fung." Feel free to send me a PM/friend request. I'm happy…

http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v529/n7585/full/nature16504.html "Here we show that changes in the microbiota of mice consuming a low-MAC diet and harbouring a human microbiota are largely reversible within a single generation. However, over several generations, a low-MAC diet results in a progressive loss of…

Scads of research regarding changes to human microbiomes say otherwise. One doesn't even have to troll scientific journals to find it.

I never said it stayed exactly the same from day to day. But, I don't think it's accurate to say there is no long term impact from diet. There was an entire section about it in Ed Yong's book. I looked up a few of the studies from the footnotes and there does seem to be evidence that one can permanently alter their…

Sure. I agree 100% that it's not either/or. But there is an attitude that it's all self-inflicted, as if everyone starts out with the same body situation, etc, (as is obvious in the "what gene" question)... which is obviously not the case. I also agree that one's microbiome changes with one's diet. But it's still a factor…

There have actually been some interesting studies on epigenetics and obesity. There's also research on microbiomes and obesity. It's not as simple as fat people are lazy and indulgent. It's just not.

Good for you! I ignored it until I was a full blown diabetic. But I'm working hard and hoping to put the 'beetus into remission. I'm like you, though. I'll always have to be on the bp meds. Stupid heredity.

Treating exercise as social hour. It happens in every fitness class I've ever taken. A group of women chat loudly the ENTIRE class, making it hard to hear the instructor, and basically being disruptive. Not to mention that they always half-*kitten* the exercise. Just go to a bar and get a cocktail if you want to socialize.…

I have been doing IF since December. Due to personal/family and work issues I had a rocky start. But I've been pretty determined since the middle of May and have been doing well with it since then. My plan is fasting Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. I do roughly 36 hours at a time (from dinner Sunday to breakfast Tuesday,…

I knew a gal in weight watchers with me years ago who would strip down to her bra and panties to be weighed every week. Right in front of everyone. My own personal approach is to weigh myself after working out. Sure, it's an artificially low weight. But it makes me feel I've made a bit more progress and since I do it…

Mindfulness helps me stay on track. Someone explained emotions like being a waterfall and mindfulness like stepping behind the waterfall. You can still see it, but you aren't carried away by it. It allows me to acknowledge that I'm feeling a craving and console myself for needing to resist it. Sometimes I cave anyway. In…

What is that bright pink sauce?! I'm intrigued.

One of my go-to quick meals is baked salmon and veggies. Just plop a salmon fillet in a pan, sprinkle some different spices on it (paprika, garlic, etc) as well as lemon juice and olive oil. Bake. Then I nuke a bag of frozen veggies. Almost no prep time. Doesn't make a ton of dirty dishes.

I agree with SezxyStef. He'll probably just have to see over time that his worries about you leaving him were wrong.
-
Do you think he's trying to get you to keep the weight on? Like maybe he's worried you'll leave him if you lose it? Or do you think he's just trying to be supportive / not be like husbands who pressure their wives to lose weight? My husband is the latter type. Sometimes I think, "Dude, you can be honest with me. I'm not…

Just because something wouldn't hurt your feelings doesn't mean it wouldn't hurt the feelings of another person. We have no idea what other people are dealing with. That particular person was suffering the loss of a child. But who cares. If it doesn't meet YOUR particular standards, then she doesn't have any right to her…
-
I saw the thread she was referring to. She was accused of being a troll and more than one person posted something to the effect of, "This is the dumbest thing I've heard all day." People showing concern for her choices wasn't what hurt her feelings.

And another thing! haha. As a diabetic I'm constantly being told, "Well, you have to live a little." Yeah. If I indulged every time someone wanted me to, eating junk that sent my blood sugar sky high would be the rule, not the exception. People never seem to take into account that their exception isn't the only one I'll…
-
Similar here. The break room isn't off in some remote corner. I basically have to walk right by the tables of junk every time I need to venture out of my office. Then I also have to decide if I want to become the grumpy office troll who never socializes, or endure eating my lunch surrounded by the junk and the coworkers…

Yet another reason for me to resent buying this damn thing. It tells me I should be eating 2,700 to 2,900 calories per day... getting it to sync with my phone is like jabbing a screwdriver in my eye... and it simply will not display my workouts, etc, the way I want it to. It's basically an ugly bracelet that tells me how…

Thanks for the reminder! I signed up for that at the beginning of the summer and then forgot about it!

I've gone low carb to control my bg readings, improve my lipid profile, and to lose weight. I've cut all pasta, rice, desserts, and potatoes. The only thing that is labeled a pure carbohydrate that I consume is 1 piece of whole grain bread at breakfast. I do count veggies toward my carb count and I'm sort of skeptical of…

Thanks for the input, everyone. I think I'll back off the lactic acidosis scare.

Horrible, horrible side effects, adiggs.

I doubt there is one answer. But what if you loosened up your goals, etc? Went from weight loss settings here on MFP to maintaining settings? A friend of mine lost a bunch of weight on weight watchers. When she reached her goal, she started monitoring her food only 4 days a week. The other 3 days she would eat what she…

I agree with you, lucan. :) My mom is on the conservative / protective side. After the phone call with my mom I looked online for information about the connection between the two and it seems really rare and only an issue for people with cardiac or renal problems. But, I love to wear myself out in the pool... really kick…

How many people who are dieting actually measure out 100g of zucchini? Vs. how many people just buy a zucchini, cut it up, and cook it?
