  • another point to consider is that the reason you didnt feel anything in the clams is you have yet to learn "how" to activate your glutes..and that only comes with time and plenty of glute activation work!!!
  • if you search Les Mills Bodybalance in the cardio section it should appear
  • get rid of the gel seat....your backside will get used to the seat...just takes time for your tail bone to adjust
  • why dont you put on your wet gear / rain coats and go out and have fun splashing through the puddles in a local park?
  • their advertised numbers are way to high...they claim attack can burn up to 710 calories....as if!
  • no-one is saying that finding time to workout is easy, and I get you arent a morning person so initially it will be very hard. But what you also might find is that when you start wrking out you should sleep better in general so maybe getting up in the morning may not be as difficult. Sounds like you have a lot to talk to…
  • the reason you arent progressing is because you arent following a set programme..."the odd deadlift and sometimes squats"...in order to progress you need consistency. I understand gyms are busy but if something is busy i will wait or ask the person at the rack how many sets they have etc and then go and do another bit of…
  • i'd be curious as to how many calories a day you are eating....it seems excessive to me that you need to do 1.5 hours of cardio a day just to maintain...when you cut calories before were you also still trying to do the excess cardio - that may be why you failed becuase your calories expended was too high.... also if you…
  • i do my hipthrusts on a bench in the middle of the weight room surrounded by the boys and their dumbbells. Woe betide any boy who chooses to look funny at me while im doing it. Anyways - men are often doing very silly things themselves with dumbbells....often with bad form so i dont care...everyone is there doing their…
  • how about instead of a million curls you just up the resistance and RPM on the bike...easier and you will get more cardio benefit. If you want biceps start lifting some decent weight for low reps...it will help build muscle.
  • 72rpm on a spin bike - but at what resistance level. For HIIT i would imagine it is incredibly high so much so that you are pushing a "lot" to reach that point. in a spin class warm up you have little if any resistance on
  • and dont forget also...if you can fully complete each set without too much difficulty its time to add weight! you know its right when you struggle to get to the end of each set but do actually complete it. If you add weight and cant complete the set - consider going back to the old weight and upping the reps by 50% - when…
  • [quote=" I don't feel less then a man because I work out in a smaller, less packed, better air conditioned room. If someone feels less of a person as a result of that, its their mind that is causing that, not the area in which you work out... I have been lifting on my own, sans rack and was squatting 30kg... Seeing as I'm…
  • Personally that sounds like too much...particularly wiht no scheduled rest
  • my gym also has a large gym floor and smaller separate womens section. I know some women feel more comfortable there and thats fine...but i refuse to use it on the basis of i'm just as good as the men and strong in my own right so i'll do my workout on the main floor thanks. I understand in different countries different…
  • when i am doing squats i always do some glute activation work first - hip bridges, leg extensions, pointers, clam shells etc...want to get the right muscles fired up so my quads dont take over!! i also see a lot of people in my gym foam rolling as a lifting warmup
  • Dont forget your max HR per the Polar monitor is based on a mathematical calculation using age and statistics. If you are fit your actual max HR is likely to be much higher. A good way to find out is to undertake a Vo2 Max test. Statistics show that you shouldnt be able to maintain a HR of 85%+ for very long so if you can…
  • I love my gym cos its awesome....cue cheesy promo video...but it has great studios, great classes and amazing instructors. And they have just spent €5m renovating the gym floor - lots of squat racks and a cool circuits style fitness rig! www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4FNm4QMOiw
  • Does your gym now offer programme assessments as well as PT? my gym (granted in dublin) allows you to get a new programme every 6 weeks. Basically a meeting with one of the staff where they do a programme based on your needs/goals and show you how to do it and then its up to you...surely every gym should offer this from a…
  • I am sure if you asked the B&B they could provide some other sort of breakfast rather than a cooked breakfast. Porridge or cereal is usually always an option?
  • for me though - my rule is if i'm still singing along (even if its in my head) I CAN keep going and i cant quit.,...so maybe the people singing are serious and focussed. But i agree about not distracting others...my gym is big loud and noisy though so even if i was singing aloud i dont think people would hear...
  • i dont sing out loud but i sing in my head and sometimes mouth the words....its all about the intention and not the actual doing i find that helps....i also make funny movements with my hands along with the beat....
  • My question would also be how do you know you have reached your 1RM - if you keep progressing with stronglifts (or at least adapting to 3x5) you should keep getting stronger. Obviously some lifts will progress quicker than others but I wouldnt think you should have to drop stronglifts - particularly if you like it. Have…

  • I love pump and take it often. But its not quite a strength class - think more cardio and it most definitely does not burn 590 calories. I lift heavy weights, work hard and am not that light (think 17kg each side for squats, 10kg each side for back, chest and lunges and i wear a hrm and it says c.300. I know thats not…

  • please stop calling them "girl" pushups...what they are is a modified push-up and men can modify too

  • Men seem to burn more calories in general. I train with a male friend - he'll often burn almost double the amount i would (per his HRM) even though we are both of similar sizes and pushing equally hard.
  • personally i wouldnt trust its accuracy any more than i would a regular scale that does body fat....you will probably find the variability in its accuracy is huge - and more than what it said you lost
