  • Oatmeal with some dried fruit is very good. Good carbs, very filling. Digests slowly. I actually enjoy a cup (or 2) of coffee before a ride. I find it helps me loosen up and get the legs engaged more quickly. Very important to fuel on the ride though. I can do an hour without eating. But longer than that and I'll eat…
  • Hi again Ian...let me answer Heidijo22's question. Go to Message Board -> Home then click on one of the topics that is appropriate, like Exercise And Fitness. In the upper right hand corner is a green button, New Topic. Back on your bike Ian! :-)

  • Hi Ian, If you love biking and wanted to lose a few look for this book, "Ride your way lean". It explains lots of how your body works, good calories and bad calories, exercises, training programs, lots of stuff. • hmmm, diet mags, salad and water. Go you!
  • cleaned out 22 years of accumulated papers and files and lit a fire in the back yard, thus literally and symbolically destroying my old life. As for life 2.0...rode my bike on the trainer, read a book by the fireplace, went cross country skiing with my dog and made dinner.
  • leilaphoenix, If you don't like exercise, don't do it. Instead find an activity that is fun! Whether that is dancing, competitive shopping, hiking, taking a dog for a walk or playing Red Rover. I'll bet when you were a kid you loved to be outside playing tag or running around with friends in some way. Exercise should not…
  • I wonder the same thing about those machines. I have 2 different HRM that are mostly consistent (within 5% of each other). A Garmin and a Polar if you are interested. They tend to be more accurate than the machines. I don't do the elliptical machines but on a stair master I burn about 400 in 30 minutes according to the…

  • I just finished reading a great book called "Ride Your Way Lean". It is all about weight loss thru biking. I would get an actual bike and a trainer (any bike shop will have one). That way you get the benefits of the spin bike, but the joy of an actual bike to get out in the fresh air and ride when the weather is nice. Not…
  • Not quite the leadville. But it is 120 miles with 3 climbs over 11k'. That Leadville Ultra is insane. It must really take intense discipline to train up for that!
  • I've always heard lighter weights with higher reps. 10 reps is "normal" in a set. Cut the weight in half and do 15 reps. That sort of thing. The "best" weight training though that I've ever done is via Yoga. I know it sounds all "new-agey" but it really works. You'll get really strong, very fast.
