  • If you are doing squats and deads, you are getting more than enough core work in . . .
  • The Drumcode podcast is generally quite good quality. Also, it's free on iTunes, so you can try it out with no commitment.
  • The White Stripes, "Jolene (Live)"
  • One problem is that, with light to medium weights, your form could _look_ ok, but you still might not be engaging the right muscles in the right way. One thing my trainer did was to put her hand in various locations on my back when I was doing DLs with moderate weights so that she could tell what muscles I was engaging.
  • I have lost enough weight (yay!) that I need to go shopping for new clothes (boooo!).
  • Scotch or bourbon.
  • Nice discussion of %BF bounds: http://www.builtlean.com/2010/08/03/ideal-body-fat-percentage-chart Interesting comparison of all of the methods, with a nice discussion at the end regarding interpretation and use of the numbers: http://weightology.net/weightologyweekly/?page_id=180
  • I would say . . . * raw fruits ok, as long as IFYM, and * dried fruits not ok (except very sparingly, maybe similar to donuts, etc.), as they are too concentrated, and can also contain added sugar.
  • You will definitely be able to do 10 pound increases for a little while, but not for long, especially with bench and OHP. Go buy some 2.5's and throw them in your gym bag. :)
  • Yeah, that cookie is a "once every six months" occurrence. The calories are brutal, but I planned for it, so that I actually stayed under my calories for the day. (Almost) everything in moderation . . .
  • You can't see it in those clothes, but the legs and *kitten* are definitely getting close to the condition they were was in during my former athleticism, and I have gotten more than one comment about them. The official "after" shots will be in some more appropriate gear (i.e., workout clothes) . . . :)
  • Agreed, totally. Sh***y situation, but a good opportunity to concentrate on yourself and get a lot of physical training in. Oh, my recommendation is to lift, and lift heavy.
  • Ah, nice. It is always nice to see someone along the same path. You will probably get there before me, though, since my damn knee is going to kill my workouts for probably 2-4 months. But, I'm just trying to keep my eye on the long term.
  • MissySpring said: Yeah, when the person who took the pics and I sat down and looked at the difference, we were both amazed . . . :) motivatedmartha said So, I didn't say too much about sleep and losing weight, as I don't understand all of the dependencies very well yet, but since more than one person brought it up, I can…
  • Thanks! :)
  • No need to eat any particular items, just cut back the quantity a bit to account for your current sedentaryness. If you are laid up, maybe now would be a good time to do a bit of tracking (if you don't do it already). And be disciplined about your "lazyness"; you really need to rest to get healed up! Good luck!
  • Work: 50 hours/week Workout: 10 hours/week
  • Looking good! FYI, hips are damn sexy . . . :)
  • I am 6 ft 1 in, and I started out at 270 pounds. After 15 pounds, my previously snug pants were fairly loose.
  • If this is your first time doing weights, i would definitely suggest Stronglifts. For basic info, just search the google. However, be careful to get some help regarding form (i.e., maybe hire a trainer for a month's worth of sessions), because some of those lifts can hurt you if you don't do them properly. Good luck! :)
  • So, several comments: * It seems like you have been with your girlfriend for a while, so you probably already have a reasonable idea of the day-to-day work required to be married. Of course, you could not get married, but just remain monogamous to each other, and, in that case, one could ask, "What is the difference…
  • OP: 6 pounds is around 3% for you, so it seems like you are talking +/- 1.5% around some nominal value. Definitely no big deal . . .
  • A lot of people make shakes/smoothies. Some good recipes are here: http://dashingdish.com/recipe/dashing-dish-official-protein-shake/ As the author says, cottage cheese sounds weird, but if you follow the directions, they turn out quite nice. Almost indistinguishable from a real milkshake . . . :)
  • Planetary Assault Systems, "Future Modular", MOTE038. Great track!
  • Does a 2013 M3 with a Dinan 4.6 stroker and an ESS supercharger count??? I'm pretty sure a Barrett M82 counts here . . . :)
  • Anything with a 303 . . . A great example is Hardfloor, "AM-Trip", off of the record TB Resuscitation. Beautiful acid chill, or whatever you want to call it.
  • Twice a week total, once for official data collection, and once for error correction (i.e., feedback about my eating, because I can do a hell of a lot of damage in a full week if I am being careless . . .).
  • "Natural" peanut butter (i.e., no preservatives, sugar, or anything other than peanuts). 80-90% chocolate. :)
  • You can frequently find decent stuff at gas stations and convenience stores. For example, you can generally find ok beef jerky, peanuts or almonds, an apple or a banana, and bottled water. At a deli, turkey and/or swiss on whole wheat, with whatever veggies you like. Fast food is a bit more tricky, but still possible. A…
  • I don't think anyone here is committed to supporting massively overpriced "health" products being covertly pushed on the forums. What most people here do seem to support is healthy, basic principles, and for weight gain, that's probably something like "lift more, eat more".
