  • I didn't take them for almost the full first year after surgery. Every time I did they would give me a metallic taste coming up all the time. So at my 1 year post op appt. My Nutritionist told me to take 2 flintstones complete multi vitamin and minerals. And so far that has worked. I had blood work with my 1 year post op…

  • 120 lbs = amount of trash you throw away in a month.. This is a fun way to compare things that weigh what you lost.
  • I was just seen for my 1 year post op appt by the Nurse Practitioner with my bariatric program. She offered me a referral to a plastic surgeon and I told her no way. I have heard of people having it done here.I am in Canada and they will pay for a Panniculectomy (apron removal) but its not great and people have been turned…
  • Yep! It's terrible between that and being froze to death all the time I am not sure which is worse for me. Oh well I guess there good things to complain about considering!
  • I use to be hot always. I moved from South Carolina to Newfoundland Canada a little over 10 years ago. I thought I found heaven as the heat in SC was terrible but I found it nice here in Newfoundland and it gets cold. Since having surgery back in February I have been like an icicle, I am not sure what I will do when it…
  • I look in the mirror I still see the SUMO wrestler that I thought of myself as (see profile pic) and I still see myself as that. I was 295 when I started this process and wearing some 24's and 26s. I am a little over 8 months post op down 97lbs and wearing 18's and a couple 16s. I too buy my clothes from the thrift stores…
  • I use Peg3350 pretty much the same as miralax or restoralax but my dr will write me a prescription and then my insurance covers it. My dr said that peg and miralax is all safe to use on a regular basis and I only have to drink the peg in some water a couple times a week now to keep myself regular.
  • Greek yogurt is a great source of protein if you like it!
  • I know this is a old topic. But my friend that had VSG the same day as me brought me a loaf of the p28 bread and the bagels. I haven't tried the bagels but I did toast a slice of the bread. It tasted like normal bread to me a bit dense and I couldn't eat the whole slice. But it wasn't bad for those who wanted to know :)
  • I just got rid of all my 3x, 24 and 26 clothes today. I am now in 16/18 depending on brand. I have that fear of what if I need them (larger sizes) again. But I have to push that out of my head and know that I will never allow myself to have to wear those sizes again. I just pulled out a pair of fleecy pajama bottoms put…
  • I was 295 the day of my surgery with a BMI of 47.6. Here in Newfoundland they rarely do the RNY and from my understanding most people do as well with the sleeve as they do with the RNY. I am 24 weeks and 2 days out from surgery and down 83 lbs my BMI is at 34.5 now. I no longer have diabetes and my blood pressure meds have…
  • You handled it much better than I would have. You have done your research and are following the protocols given to you by your team. I have noticed that every Dr's protocols are different. For example I only had to do 1 week of liquids before my surgery where as you are having to do 2 weeks. The surgery is relatively new…
  • This is what I do with Kale :) http://allrecipes.com/recipe/baked-kale-chips/
  • Love this post! I have found that I have been sticking with pre-packaged foods as well. But the sodium content is so high that I have started cooking again. I find the recipe calculator on here great to use but I too find it difficult to determine portions. Unless it is something that is like a muffin. I made raisin tea…
  • I live in Newfoundland but I am originally from the States :)
  • If its the same here you can't drink anything after midnight the night before and nothing till after your leak test the day after surgery. I and a lot of the people that are sleeved here locally use biotene spray its a mouth moisturiser and was a godsend. You spray it in your mouth and swish it around and it makes it not…
  • I am sorry that you hurt your knee. That really sucks to have had to reschedule your bariatric appt. but August isn't too far away thank goodness. Where I am I had to wait 2 years from the start to surgery and people now are having to wait up to 6 years. Good luck with your knee surgery and recovery.
  • I am 20 wks 2 days post op and in the past 2 weeks I have been losing a lot of hair. My labs have been very good and my nutrition is great except for the first week post op. After that I was able to get in all my protein and I have been getting it in since. I cringe every time I brush my hair and see how much is in the…
  • Congratulations!! I can't wait to get to Onederland :) This post makes me excited!!!!
  • I drink blue and orange powerade zero a lot. I was buying them premixed in the bottle but I found they have the drops of both the blue and orange ones. So I buy those now. I don't like the Mio, or any of the other drops and I have never cared for Crystal Light. I will be 18 weeks out from surgery on Monday and I have 1 cup…
  • I bought a lot of my protein powders from bodybuilding.com as I stocked up on them gradually as well. I also found a good deal on some canned protein shakes made by Weider they were in Dollarama so I bought a nice few of those. If you do try those I recommend putting them in a blender or using an immersion blender on them…
  • I had the century chewable vitamins and I had a really hard time taking them most days I didn't. At my 3 mth post op appt I was told I could take normal vitamins no more chewables and that is what I did so I now have no problem taking my vitamin everyday! :)
  • I tried strawberry cheesecake, cinnamon roll, apple pie, peanut butter deluxe, there was another one can't remember the name and I bought a brownie one but it was for my hubby to try as I am not a huge fan of chocolate. The apple pie one I took 2 bites of it and threw the rest of it away. I did manage to get down the…
  • I was never nauseated at all except for right after waking up in the recovery room. I was also on liquids for 4 weeks after surgery and then mushies for 4 weeks. I was 17 weeks out yesterday and my hair started coming out really bad about a week ago :(
  • Asia1967 She said it taste like cinnamon raisin bread to her really dense and chewy. :) Hope that helps!
  • These are the bagels my friend gets from Dominion grocery store http://www.presidentschoice.ca/en_CA/products/productlisting/pc_blue_menu_thins_multigrain_bagelsprod1180049.html 6 grams of protein which is no where near what the p28 contains. I have messaged her and waiting for a response. Will let you know as soon as I…
  • They do have a lot of protein. I live in a very rural area we don't even have a grocery store. But when I go to town I check out Cavedog supplements for the bread and every time they have been sold out of the bread. They always have the bagels but as I said they are huge so I just think they would be wasted for the most…
  • I am 5'6 and was 295 the day before my surgery and found things extremely difficult. I couldn't walk up the stairs from my basement without being winded. My van's steering wheel was in my stomach. I had trouble doing household chores because of my back hurting and being winded. I have lost 69 lbs and now weigh 226 lbs and…
  • I honestly thought giving up Soda was going to be a huge deal for me. I quit smoking a little over 4 years ago so I had already conquered that battle. I wasn't a coffee or tea drinker either so I didn't worry about that. My husband even said before my surgery that he thought I would lose it over not being able to have…
