I'm supposed to be doing low sodium. It's causing problems. I don't eat veggies anymore because without salt they taste horrible. And the next person who recommends MrsDash or a similar foul concoction gets a beating. So it's just fruit now. Calories are way up because low cal soups are out. No chicken. I'm thinking if…

Core workouts. Planks, crunches, etc. There's this "rotisserie" workout where you do a front plank, then a side plank, then crunches, then the other side plank, and then back to a front plank. It kills me.

There are plenty of exercises you can do, you just need to be creative. Hand bikes, etc.

Depends how long I'm going for. If I'm just doing a short 2 hour ride in the morning then I might have breakfast after. Anything more than that I risk bonking, so I eat first.

Not only do I think it is an addiction, think about this: Almost any other type of addict - gambling, drugs, alcohol, whatever - would continue to live just fine if they stopped doing their addictive activity. However, you can die without eating. In other words, many addicts talk about putting the tiger back in the cage.…

If you're really trying to do the "calorie math" then: 1. Get a BMR test done. This is usually pretty cheap. (I have had mine done multiple times, about $50 each time. The guy also does body fat testing if that helps.) 2. Weigh, log, yada yada. 3. I don't know how you count exercise cals, but be careful. Heart rate…

I'm glad to hear that other folks had dry mouth...I thought it was something else.

I'm on my last month of it. It hasn't seemed to help much, but it hasn't had any nasty effects either. *shrug*
-
I got a power meter for my bike. It gives you a much more realistic number for calories (among other things) and those numbers are half what my heart rate monitor says...
-
It's really hard to say. There's no real way to know in the short term. Over the long term if you get multiple body composition tests you can figure that out.

Yes, there's sugar in fruit. But there's also a bunch of water and fiber which is why fruit is AWESOME.
-
I disagree. I started with the same bike (Spesh. Sirrus). My road bike (Spesh. Robuaix) is *more* comfortable and easier to ride. More hand positions and options than a flatbar bike.

If I may, there is a great message board for bigger riders: http://www.bikeforums.net/clydesdales-athenas-200-lb-91-kg/ You'll get a lot of good information there.

My two go-to foods: Soup Frozen veggies No, seriously. The Progresso Light stuff is not too bad. My frozen veggies are often the blends with some spray fake butter on top. Super easy, super quick, filling.

Are there specific spots you're trying to stretch? Every morning I work on my adductors, quads, and hamstrings because they're crazy tight. But I don't do a lot of "general stretching".

What testing was done? My doctor offered to order a treadmill test...I figure the point at which they provoke whatever response they want in a treadmill test is a good max...

This++. Not the "Fat burning zone", but this.

(For the record, my knees are also bad. I will have knee replacement, just trying to keep it off as long as possible until maybe age 50 or so. And I still ride pain free.)
-
Talk to a doctor about your injury. Cycling, done properly, often improves knee conditions. It's may be just a matter of bike fit.

In an ideal world you would not care and be all like "THIS IS WHO AM I, DEAL WITH IT." But this isn't an ideal world, right? So if the thought of going a gym gives you enough anxiety that you think it would keep you from actually going then don't even bother because 'failing' at your gym exercise goal might be worse. Pick…

Depending on how much you've lost and how much you've been restricting some weight gain may be expected. You haven't been losing just fat, but also lean tissue and that can come back rather quickly.

Oh, and my sweat smells very very "ammonia-ish"? At one point I thought my cat had peed on my gym clothes, but it was a brand new shirt! (Is that TMI?)
-
Yeah, depending on the pain meds. Opiates can cause these issues. I had a big ortho procedure and was on IV morphine and everything...stopped. When I went off of it things returned to normal. And also, yes, the protein. You will need it to heal.

They are actually not that accurate during times of exercise, either. They're only good for measuring heart rate, really.
-
Truth. I'm still "obese" (about 50 pounds to go). But my resting heart rate is 52bpm now. If I see a doctor I don't know and they take vitals I have to clue them in. Someone "my size" shouldn't have a heart rate that low, according to one doctor. (He was a rude fellow, so I dropped him like I drop slow cyclists...)

Exercise is overrated. In fact too much exercise can be counterproductive, as your body demands extra calories for all that work. However, no matter how much you exercise if your nutrition is off you won't lose. Cyclists say "You can't outride a bad diet."
-
My partner is normal sized. He never sweats. I sweat like Shaq at the foul line. My clothes are dripping when I exercise. After spin class there's a puddle under me.
-
If you have started eating more you may be overestimating your exercise calories. I ride a bike and used to use heart rate monitor calories. Then I got a power meter and found out how exaggerated heart rate monitor calories are...

I'd also look at the Up3 from Jawbone. Basically it's a Jawbone Up24 combined with the tech of the BodyBugg (which make sense because they bought BodyMedia). I'm also tempted by the new FitBits as well as the Jaybird Reign. The Reign will do some sort of HR testing (but not continuous I think), and it can auto-recognize…
