  • The desktop site has literally not been updated since I joined MFP in 2011. I am not holding my breath lol I was hoping for a better experience once they got bought out but no such luck. Honestly, the only thing keeping me with MFP is the long history of data I have saved here. Otherwise, there are many apps that do what…
  • Upvoted! Is there any way to search the recipes I have entered? I have been on MFP since 2011 and it seems that they have never improved that section in all of these years. I have 20 pages of recipes, it is not easy nor worth it to sort through them!
  • This. Assuming your numbers are correct, you aren't eating enough and you are trying to lose too quickly. You aren't doing your body any favors by starving yourself...but you are losing muscle! Be reasonable, adjust to 0.5 lb/week loss and enjoy the extra food you can eat.
  • Start browsing through websites geared towards lower calorie (but tasty!) recipes. Skinnytaste is a good place to start. Eating Well is another good website where you can find lower calorie riffs on comfort foods.
  • I have been maintaining my 30 pound loss for 4 years. After staying with MFP for a few months after hitting my goal, I slowly drifted away. I slowly gained the 30 pounds after transitioning from an active college student to a sedentary desk worker. I have always eaten in a manner I consider healthy (lots of vegetables,…
  • I lost 30 pounds 3-4 years ago and have been maintaining since. I had MFP set for a 0.5 lb/week weight loss at the end of my losing. Switching to maintenance was just a slight bump up in calories and an easy transition, so I would recommend doing that for the last 10 pounds. I still logged for a few months after reaching…
  • This. I eat healthy most of the time (meaning plenty of veg, balanced protein and carbs, healthy fats) which means I am free to work in demonized foods (like pizza, cake, etc.) in moderate portions. Portion control is everything.
  • I can't eat dairy, so I understand your troubles there. Even with a gluten allergy, it doesn't mean you have to eat all carbs, all of the time. Are you eating a lot of boxed/packaged gluten free junk food? If you are low in protein then work more into your diet: eggs, tofu, edamame, nuts, beef, chicken, etc. You can eat…
  • UGH. These posts kill me. Your body has its own "detox" system, namely the liver and kidneys. There are no magical toxins you are expelling by drinking a certain juice or only eating certain foods. It is scientifically impossible. What exactly do you think you are achieving by putting yourself through this?
  • I am 5'7.5" so I am playing too! Started MFP at 175 lbs size 14 US Maintaining 145 lbs size 6 or 8 I am pear shaped and always had a butt, even as a skinny high schooler. Funny how we all carry weight differently.
  • Personally, I think they have an off putting stench and are packed in some sort of unappetizing gelatinous goo. I'd rather eat a smaller portion of real pasta than a gelatinous smelly noodle.
  • Love it. This time of year (berry season) I add cinnamon, splash of almond milk (I can't eat dairy), and raspberries or blueberries. When no fruit is in season, I add almond milk, a scoop of canned pumpkin (100% pumpkin, not that pie filling stuff), cinnamon, and sliced almonds.
  • As an FYI, if you have problems with artificial sweeteners then steer clear. For example, their BBQ sauce is Splenda, tomato paste and vinegar. I know some people (like me) can't stand the taste of artificial sweeteners and others physically can't tolerate them (stomach issues, headaches, etc.). If either of those describe…
  • I stopped eating dairy for three weeks in order to do a food allergy elimination diet. Lo and behold I figured our that dairy makes my skin breakout. Glass of milk = pimples around my chin. No dairy = clear skin. After Googling it further, I have found many people have also made the dairy = acne link. By all accounts, the…
  • How do you know if your metabolism is high? Regardless, any calorie counting will take a bit of tailoring to a specific person. Say MFP told you that you should be eating 1800 calories a day in order to maintain your weight. If you eat 1800 calories a day and continue to lose, bump up your calories by 200 and wait a couple…
  • How about avocados? They are missing the protein but it isn't like you were getting a ton of protein from 15 almonds. 1/5 medium avocado (1 oz/30g) Calories 50 Carbs 3 Fat 4.5 Protein 0 Sugar 0
  • I did a quick Google search. Someone with the same question as you contacted McDonalds. the short answer is the ingredients are: Water, Orange Pekoe and Pekoe Cut Black Tea, Aspartame, Sucralose, Acesulfame Potassium The last three ingredients are all artificial sweeteners. It is up to you if you want to consume artificial…
  • I've done both and quitting smoking is WAY harder, no doubt.
  • A food intolerance can cause many side effects and they don't have to be related to gastric distress. Food intolerance can show itself through things you wouldn't even link to food, like joint pain, headaches, etc. I am dairy intolerant and it causes me to break out (acne) and straight up milk or yogurt will make me…
  • 1. If you are disappointed at "only" losing 3 pounds in 3 weeks, you will be sorely disappointed as time goes on. That is normal progress and you are doing great. Keep doing what you are doing: losing weight at a good pace. 2. Your liver and kidney cleanse your body, that is what they are designed to do. There is zero…
  • LOL. I have been maintaining for almost 3 years and can eyeball portion sizes of most things. The only thing I eat daily that I still weigh on a scale is almonds. I test myself once in a while to eyeball an ounce and I am ALWAYS way over. WAY over. I shudder to think how many I deemed was a serving before MFP.
  • I agree and unless you are reaaaaally sedentary, I would call wandering around a mall a stretch for logging exercise calories.
  • There have been a bunch of threads on it today, I think they have fallen to the second page though...
  • Ditto this. Never, ever be afraid to "fire" your doctor. If they are dismissing your concerns and blatantly ignoring a known side effect of the medication, then it is time to find a new doctor. Ask friends and coworkers for recommendations. After moving to a new area, I have found that most people are more than happy to…
  • Set MFP for a "0 lb/week weight loss" then eat how many calories it says. It is no different than following MFP when you have it set to lose 1 lb/week. However, you will probably need to find your own sweet spot of what works for you. It took me a few weeks to fall into the groove of maintenance where I found the right…
  • Ugh, that stuff tastes like frozen protein shake. I would rather eat a moderate portion of real ice cream than a spoonful of that garbage. Portion control is key: it allows you to enjoy the stuff you like like ice cream, butter, etc. without having to settle for sub par imposter foods.
  • Can you make your diary public? It is impossible to give advice of any value if we don't know what you currently eat.
  • I usually just do plain banana, no milk or anything else necessary. It will eventually become like soft serve ice cream. I bet almond butter would be a fantastic mix in, thanks for the idea. I also like stirring in dark chocolate and chopped walnuts. YUM!
  • For those talking about rolling (aka an Eskimo roll) it is actually quite hard to execute. Most who wear a spray skirt for sit-in (aka touring) kayaks would not roll: if you capsize, just unhook the spray skirt, and VOILA! You are free. Rolling is really only necessary in whitewater though it is handy for a quick recovery…
  • I have a touring kayak (sit-in style) but mostly do flat water paddling. If you are paddling properly, your wrists should not hurt at all. If you are weaker in the upper body, you'll probably feel it in your arms by the end of the day. I'm not sure about recreational kayaks, but touring ones have foot braces and to get the…
