Jump Starting Weightloss

Hi everyone, how do you feel about jump starting weightloss? I've been trying for 3 weeks now and I've only lost 3 pounds total (trying to lose 30). How do you feel about doing a day or 2 long fast or cleanse? Do you find it helps?
Thanks for the input!

You're losing a lb a week which is safe and healthy and congrats!
A fast or a cleanse will not "jumpstart" anything. There is no turbo boost button for weight loss. You might see results because those methods employ a serious calorie deficit. If you want to see faster loss, set your goal to 2 lbs a week and follow that calorie deficit and see how it works.
Fasts and cleanses are not the way to go.0 -
Personally my body does not respond well to cleanses or fasts. I found it better to just try to eat super healthy for a week or two- basically doing lean protein and steamed veggies for lunch and dinner and some complex carbs and protein for breakfast. This usually helps if I start eating too much of the foods I know I should limit. A pound a week is really good though so I don't really see the need unless you stall for a few weeks.0

1. If you are disappointed at "only" losing 3 pounds in 3 weeks, you will be sorely disappointed as time goes on. That is normal progress and you are doing great. Keep doing what you are doing: losing weight at a good pace.
2. Your liver and kidney cleanse your body, that is what they are designed to do. There is zero science behind doing a cleanse and it is silly to restrict yourself to just liquids or to certain types of foods when all of that nonsense is unnecessary. If any cleanse or diet claims it will "detoxify" you or "get rid of toxins" run far, far away.
Keep up the great work and BE PATIENT!!0 -

Congratz on the 3 lb loss! 1 lb a week weight loss with only 30 lbs left to lose is a great goal. You're doing wonderfully. Detoxes and cleanses are unnecessary. Do you have a liver and kidney? Yes? Then, you're good. This is a game of patience. I'm sure you've heard "you didn't gain it overnight, you can't lose it overnight". Remember that. Taking weight loss at a sustainable pace leaves you better off not only to learn habits you can continue into maintaining but also, you stand a better chance at maintaining your current muscle (which will leave you looking leaner at goal weight). Racing to the finish often leads to the dreaded "skinnyfat". So, keep up the good work. Here is a helpful link, too

Yup, this.
OP, it's a cliche, but slow and steady truly wins the race.0 -
You are doing well at 3 lbs. weight loss in three weeks. There isn’t any such thing as jump starting weight loss because your body will release the fat when it’s ready despite you trying to rush it. I don’t have anything against Intermittent Fasting if that is what you meant by 2 long days of fast. If that isn’t what you meant then I wouldn’t twist myself up trying to lose weight. Our bodies cleanse itself naturally and any other means seem like a waste of money in my opinion never mind any negative health consequences. More importantly, cleanse doesn’t get rid of fat. If you want to burn fat calories then you need to eat less calories than you burn.

Losing 1 lb a week, if it keeps going steady, means that you will lose 30 lbs in 30 weeks. You know how long it takes me to lose 30 lbs? Over a year. I've lost almost 70 lbs, and that has taken me 3+ years.
There will be times when you might drop 3lbs randomly in one week, and not lose anything the next. That's just how it goes sometimes. Just roll with it and let it happen on its own time. Losing slowly and not losing at all are waaay better than the alternative.0 -
Eat at a calorie deficit. Figure out your BMR/TDEE. Exercise, pick up heavy things, and eat sufficient fuel.
If you find a magical way to get a bunch of weight to fall off right at the beginning, please let me know.0 -
I am also trying to lose 30lbs and I have been losing about 1lb to 2lb each week. All the research that I have done for the start of my journey encourages healthy weight loss for sustained success. The biggest thing is to eat clean. Yes, you can do a fast or cleanse but that will only provide momentary satisfaction and confuse your metabolism in the wrong way. Going to such drastic measures can make your body feel as if you are starving yourself and which will cause it to store adipose (fat) tissue. You should be proud that you are losing 1lb each week that is a testament that your journey is successful thus far. Maintain a healthy caloric deficit, eat clean and exercise and you will find success. I remind myself that I didn't put the weight on overnight so its not going to disappear quickly either. It takes more work and time to lose weight, so stay focused and positive. You will be there before you know it!!0

3lbs in 3 weeks!?
A detox/cleanse is useless. Don't do it
Just keep at it and don't give up.
Good luck!:flowerforyou:
EDIT: If you're truly eating that large of a deficit i'd advise checking out those links above. Seriously!
Find out your TDEE and decide what's best for weight loss-the healthy way!

No. Clean eating is a meaningless term. Eating nutrient dense foods are important for health but calories in vs out for weight loss.
Your metabolism doesn't "get confused". How exactly could that even happen? Mayhaps the riddles of the bridge troll were too difficult for it solve?0 -
I'm coming back in because I just saw you post in another thread you were eating 1000 - 1200 calories, so my advice to continue what you are doing is not good.
Please read the links I gave earlier, find a REASONABLE calories deficit, stop blaming carbs and anything else. Stop looking for quick fixes.0 -

Thank you everyone for the input. I guess I'm just frustrated because I've only ever done crash diets before this and I'd lose 30 pound in like....2 months. I'm really trying to keep it healthy this time so thank you for the input0

Why must I eat clean to have success? I mean I do wash my veggies and stuff before I eat it, and only eat off the floor if under 5 seconds.. cause well that's acceptable. Guess I will never be successful dammit!0 -
Is that too many calories or too few? My doctor said 1000 is a reasonable amount per day cause people generally underestimate their calories. She mentioned that if it think I'm eating 1000, I'm probably eating 12000

Well if you want to do this healthy this time you need to eat more than 1000-1200 calories. For example, I'm 42 years old, menopausal and I eat 1600-1900 calories daily and have lost a little weight.0 -

I've lost 50 lbs prior to losing the 50 I have now. I understand where you're coming from. I ate 1200 calories, not net. I walked my butt off. I ate everything I thought was "healthy food" and cut out a ton of things I saw as "junk". Then, after I was back at square one again because what I was doing wasn't sustainable, I found the Eat, Train, Progress group and a wealth of information on the forums from people who have lost 100s of lbs and maintaining their new weight by learning sustainable habits.
It took me 9 months to lose 50 lbs but I wouldn't change it for the world. Even if it took me longer, I would still have done it. Make this about leaning and growing through it. That way, you can keep it off this time You've got this.0 -

Can you open your food diary that would help. Eat more nutrient dense food it's easy getting to 1200, trust me I can do that with my eyes closed standing on my head0 -
