  • I'm 5'2", 54yo, and when living a sedentary lifestyle if I eat below 1300 calories I lose, if I eat above, I gain. I try to keep it in the 1100 to 1500 range, mostly towards the low end. I'm exercising now and trying to eat back at least half my exercise calories.
  • New shoes, stretching and mostly, time and rest! My main form of exercise is brisk walking, so I (now) replace my athletic shoes at the first sign of wear to the treads and I searched for a shoe model that emphasized stability and had reviews saying it was good for people with plantar fasciitis. I tried several different…
  • Take a "break" from trying to lose and practice maintenance. You are doing great! And, unless you have spent significant time as an adult at your goal weight (with your anticipated amount of muscle mass) and know what that looks and feels like on you, your goal number might be unrealistic anyway. Everyone is a bit…
  • As mentioned above, massaged kale salad is the best! Start with kale in bite sized pieces, then sprinkle with salt, drizzle with olive oil and massage it for 2-3 minutes. It will soften and slightly reduce in volume. Then I like to add a "Just a Handful" packet of dried fruits and nuts from Trader Joes and drizzle with…
  • I lose from the bottom up. Butt and thighs, then belly and back fat, then waist. I'm hopeful the boobs will go down some eventually. :/
  • I love shrimp, it's tasty, low-calorie and very versatile. Unfortunately, I don't buy it very often any more. Not since I read this article and watched documentary on this issue: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/food/wp/2015/12/16/how-to-find-shrimp-thats-not-produced-by-slave-labor-in-thailand/ No one should have to be…
  • After a stubborn couple of weeks with no progress, suddenly I've lost 3 pounds! And that's after a marginally successful 750 calorie fast day yesterday. :# My husband and I have been scanning in all our family pictures. We've gotten up to the early '90's when we first started dating. He was a stringbean, and I can't…
  • Here's some disappointing news - I saw my doctor on Monday and my cholesterol went UP 50 points. :s I'm hoping it was an aberration, I did have a couple celebratory meals around the time I had the blood drawn, but I've never had cholesterol issues before now, and suddenly my doctor is coming down on me for it. :/…
  • I had good fasts this week, and I was much more diligent about drinking liquids (hot tea, mostly). This morning I woke up to a 2.5 pound loss. After about a month of stagnation, it feels good to catch up! I finally feel like I'm back on track. B)
  • Forgive me if it's already been mentioned here, but MFP will never recommend anyone go below 1200 calories a day, so smaller people, or people wanting to lose weight quickly will "break" the calculator.
  • It won't go away, but a daily pill can get rid of most, or all, of the symptoms. See a doctor, get tested. Good luck!
  • I've got an old-fashioned scale too, but it seems accurate as long as I keep it in one spot and stand on it with my feet in the same position (I get different weights if I vary how far apart my feet are). If I step on it 3 times and see the same number, I'll log it. This morning my scale is telling me that I achieved my…
  • I'm finally back on track after a week or two of not wanting to diet at all. :s I tend to self-sabotage every time I hit a mini-goal, which is I think a combination of my body wanting to take a pause to re-set at the new weight, and me being tired of having to plan out my food all the time. I doubt I'll have a loss this…
  • I lost it when he started referring to "box calories" like that was a thing. :D OP, if you are sincere, I wish you luck, but please know there are easier and healthier ways to get where you want to go.
  • I usually make my own - 2 tsp of brown or Dijon mustard, herbs, salt, pepper, 2 Tbs. balsamic vinegar, 1 tsp olive oil. That's usually enough for a lightly dressed salad for 2 people. 35 calories. You don't even really need the oil, in which case it's more like 15 calories.
  • I often sneak a weigh in or two during the week, but only count the one taken the morning after my 2nd fast.
  • I made the mini goal I posted earlier in this thread (to get below 170 and out of the "obese" BMI range for my height)! B) My next mini goal is to get below 163, which is the weight I was able to get down to in 2014, before all hell broke loose in my personal life and I fell off the diet and exercise wagon.
  • Unless it comes with a paper umbrella and several shots of alcohol, I have no interest in juice. Just seems like a weird, messy, expensive way not to have to chew your food.
  • I try to eat maintenance calories on NFDs. I also try to log every day, since that keeps me from mindlessly eating.
  • I'm also doing Tuesday/Thursday this week. Last week was terrible. I barely logged and wasn't motivated at all. :# We were very busy, and I was recovering from a cold, so I guess that was the problem, but I can't do that again if I expect to keep making progress.
  • January 1st: 173 February 1st: 169
  • I'm 48. I lost 25 pounds using MFP in 2014 and was highly motivated and well on my way towards my 45 lb goal, then had a very depressing year of caring for an elderly family member through their decline and eventual death. The diet went out the window during that time. I regained 17 pounds, but now I'm back. I started…
  • My fast day yesterday didn't go as planned. I was sick, running a fever, but still had to run around doing time-sensitive things, like visiting our tax accountant. Wound up having an 800 calorie day, which isn't terrible given the circumstances. I feel much better today, and I think the scale is down another pound despite…
  • I'll join!
  • 8 pounds since December 1st. Looking to lose about 30 more.
  • Good luck, Marmitegeoff! I'm carb loading in preparation for the 12"-24" of snow I'll probably have to shovel tomorrow. :#
  • Delay gratification. Take the snack, but tell yourself to wait an hour before eating it. After the hour, reevaluate whether you want the snack after all. Delay again, if possible. Repeat as necessary. Good luck!
  • Live and learn, mama. That's all we can do. <3 Gorgeous photo, flumi! I want to go back to Europe so bad. I spent my teen years in West Berlin, which tells you how long it's been since I've been there, lol. We've been trying to plan a summer trip, but things keep coming up to prevent it. Maybe this summer, I think we'll…
  • I was correct, I didn't lose anything. :( I'm going to have to stick more closely to my usual 1100-1200 calorie goal on my off days. I've got the slowest metabolism, ugh. I've had thyroid issues since childhood, so this is nothing new. Just need to keep in mind that this is a marathon, not a sprint, and it took decades to…
