I was also randomly up 3 lbs in the days after my first dose of pfizer. Then a week later, I stepped on a dirty nail in my garden wearing flip flops. 11 years since my last tetanus shot, so I had to go in and get that, despite recommendations to not get any other vaccinations within 2 weeks of the COVID vaccine. The…

As a swimming "snob" that makes me shudder. :D I really only swim free and back. I was a distance freestyle swimmer. Even in college I was known to cheat if it was a fly set and one-arm it. At the moment I don't have a pool near me that I would be willing to swim in, and I don't have time to travel further with two little…

Former collegiate swimmer here with a few thoughts: We were always told you are hungrier after swimming vs other exercise since the water keeps you cooler. Raising your core temperature a bit like with running suppresses appetite. Also, the less efficient of a swimmer you are the more calories you will burn covering the…

This really puts it so well for me. My entire life is based on this. I tend to be either in the circle of failure, with pretty much all aspects of life spiraling together downward, or when I've got things more together, everything is spiraling upward. I've found if I can find tiny little successes in everyday things, it…

We ALWAYS had ham. Dried out yucky ham. Then one year maybe 20 years ago, some small child said "I don't like this ham - it's gross". After the adults shushed him, someone asked "well, does ANYONE like ham? why do we have ham anyway?" It turned out that NOT ONE SINGLE person there even liked ham. A poll was taken as to…

My mom made these and put them in the freezer. They were AWESOME frozen.

I was just talking to my sister (a certified yoga instructor) about this the other day. She HATES hot yoga because she feels it gives people in the class a false sense of muscle relaxation due to the heat and leads to overstretching and injuries more often. She says at her practice they've discontinued offering it. FWIW.

At my local bag your own store, they often have high school kids volunteering to bag your groceries to raise money. I always feel like a crabby witch when I decline as I am super-picky about how things are bagged.

There is nothing quite as awesome as going shopping after work (also after picking your kids up from daycare). It's busy, the kids are exhausted and tired and crabby. I think I did it twice or so due to outside circumstances and then decided it would be better if we all just went home and ate whatever we could find in the…

just got to work and our coffee machine is broken. Whole day is ruined! Not really, I had to go down to the restaurant that's on the main floor of our building and pay and exorbitant $6 for a 16 oz Americano served to me by a hipster with a waxed mustache and lumberjack shirt. Also agree with the Charbucks comments above.…

raw mushrooms - like them cooked but the raw is like chewing erasers bananas - can't even be in the same room with over-ripe bananas most seafood pineapple canned tuna on the other hand I love cottage cheese and don't ever really buy it because I will eat the whole carton at once with salsa and tortilla chips

I love coffee. When I was little my mom used to host the neighborhood ladies over in the evenings for coffee (aka get away from the kids and gossip). She had a huge coffee urn and while the ladies were in the living room my brother and sister and I would be out in the kitchen sneaking tastes of coffee from the urn. Now I…

Agree. Eggnog is SLIMY and gross. I even hate the smell. My parents always buy some the minute it is available. It disgusts me to see the milky film left in their glasses after drinking it.

I had to stop wearing sandals and especially flip flops and only wear shoes I could put arch support inserts into. After about a month of that it started to heal. For years I haven't really worn sandals or flip flops for more than an hour or two.

Like a few others have said, the weather/sunlight really affects me. I realize I've gotten into somewhat of an annual pattern: do really well in the spring and summer and then September comes and something always happens (illness of myself or kids, house disaster, car disaster -whatever). Just as I'm getting back into it…

I inherited a 20,000+ button collection from a great aunt. Rumor has it there are buttons that are worth some serious money in there from the Danish royal court, but seriously. I guess I should take it to a button expert and have it looked at. The collection also includes a set of big sheets of cardboard that she sewed…

When my 80lb black lab gets the zoomies, furniture goes flying. That's an awesome name for it!

the lady across the aisle from me at work just stopped over to ask if I was alright because I was laughing (silently) so hard at this I was wheezing. I have had a neighborhood lady ask me if my dogs were adopted. I was like "uh... yes?"

I have begged and begged for us to stop our annual "gift" exchanges. We essentially trade money (checks or gift cards). This year I am going to stop whether or not anyone else does. I am done.

That's really interesting - my mom's whole family is/was like this, and they were really malnourished during WWII. That actually explains a whole lot - thanks for the insight!

Me too. I run at lunch and nearly every day on the Stone Arch bridge or around there am almost run down by scooters. How fast do they go? I know in the evenings in rush hour I've seen them weaving through stopped traffic. I heard our building was thinking of banning them near the building as so many are "parked" (that is,…

Hah - I love scenario #2 with the offering of EVERY food in the house. My mom does that. If you are sitting at the table with a plate of rolls right in front of you, she will repeatedly "offer" you the rolls, like you couldn't just reach out and grab one if you wanted. It really never stops.

The Great British baking show, just started The Office, Bojack Horseman the new season, Somebody feed Phil plus a bunch of "amazing homes" shows that are kind of all interchangeable. I am trying to watch Supernatural, but end up just jumping around and watching favorites over and over again like "The French Mistake".

So instead of taking nearly everyone's advice to talk to someone (counselor, therapist, life coach, etc) and get some perspective and help, you're going to give up? If nothing else, addressing the potential depression would be so valuable. I realize it's hard, but you have done and are still doing so many other things that…

When I was on bed rest with my twins, my mom sometimes brought over dinner and I requested this several times - extra soupy/creamy mac and cheese. One of the few foods I ate while pregnant that I still love...

I want so badly to reply to this with something helpful, but I am really struggling with how to put it constructively... Here are a couple thoughts: 1. you really sound like you are "done" with weightloss - and you've accomplished so much by losing over 100 pounds. So to you it is a dramatic change from what you used to…

Whatever you do, don't do something "new" race day. Never a good idea unless you just get lucky. I used to eat a clif bar that I was used to eating or something like that. If it was over a half marathon, I'd add a little peanut butter to it.

Here is one of her sister. I've had her since she was 3, and she's 10 now. She is a needy needy dog. But we love her anyway.

This is my fifth black lab mix (not all at once!) I usually have 2 dogs at a time, and after my fourth died way too early, I found this good girl on an adoption website. She was 8 years old at the time. This was her "adopt me please" picture and I just couldn't say no. She is now 11 and has been the most awesome dog yet. I…

Ah yes - Costco muffins. The size of a small cake. But not a "Chantilly" cake.
