  • Kaiser is great. They have support groups also. Very important especialky when you are years out. We seem to forget and go back to our old bad habits.
  • It wasn't at the library, but Amazon has it. It looks like the author Karen Koenig specializes in eating disorders. I tried my medical facility, but I guess they haven't had enough people ask, because they didn't know what to tell me. They wanted to blame it all on stress and give me anti depressants. Then I tried…
  • I think lizzieloo934 hit it right on the head for me. I do find myself eating too much because I know my schedule won't allow me to eat for hours and I'm afraid to be hungry. At least this gives me more to work on. Thanks
  • My band "slipped" so that not even water would go down. I threw up everything with slime. Gag!!! I was taken into emergency surgery two days before Christmas 2011. I feel so much better! But I too was scared. I'm so glad it's worked out. I paid for the band out of pocket and feel cheated. It was nothing like promised. My…
  • The fist five years were fairly easy. Now I got stressed from my job and gained 30 lbs. It's really hard to hit my protein macros now because protein shakes and liquids don't satisfy. I try to eat protein and veggies but get bored. And now that it takes an hour and half each way to work I don't get to the gym very often.
  • You are not alone. I'm 4 years out. I never did get to goal weight. The dr. and I have a difference of opinion on that, but I am now finding myself eating way too much. I'm trying to cut out all simple carbs, pretzels and cheezits. Other than that, we eat pretty healthy. I have a hard time with eating every 4-5 hours. I…
  • Build muscle and it will burn the fat. Nothing worse than being "thin" but you butt still jiggles.
  • When I was size 26+ I investedin a black top and pants and then concentrated on a nice jacket. If you have a different top and skirt or pants they eye stops at the waist. I am 5'8" so I never had to worry about length, but I notice skirts accent shortness. I have a whole closet now of cute jackets with peterpan collars or…
  • Just celbrated my four year anniversary. Best advice for everyone is to follow the dr or nut advice strictly for the first year. Everyone loses the first year but those that learn the habits by following orders usually keep the weight off. Just my observation. It makes me cry when I see people go through all the problems…
  • Be careful with popcorn, not because you may not be able to tolerate it, but because of portions. There was a lady in my support group that got very addicted to popcorn and didn't realize just how much she was eating. With any food, try a little bit at a time. Always weigh and measure.
  • I'm sure you've heard of a lot of people that lost the weight and then gained it back. If you don't follow dr orders for the first year religously, you probably won't make it either. Not to be mean or anything, but you have to learn the new habits. It's your choice, starting a life of new habits and suceeding or go back to…
  • Sometimes they are jealous and don't want you to succeed. My Mom always said she wanted to lose weight with me, and acted like she was trying to help, but looking back she would do the same, buying things she knew I didn't want to eat again, because they were my down falls. She use to try and convince me I could cheat once…
  • It gets better. Walking is the best thing. I didn't have the gas pains until about three days out, but it is just a short stage in your journey. Be very open to change for the rest of your life. Things you liked, loved before you may not tolerate any more. Pizza was one of mine. It still hurts after four years. That's ok.…
  • Three years out is hard, I give you a high five. I am 4 years out. At first I was very faithful about journalizing my food and exercise. I couldn't understand those that weren't logging any more and wondered why they were gaining everything back. I was told most people gain thier weight back between the second and fifith…
  • Have you ever seen the lady who is thin, can wear all the cool sizes etc. but when she walks away from you, she jiggles like jello? That's the difference between exercise and no exercise. Personally I don't want to jiggle.
  • For me in the begining, it was dificult to just walk around the block without being winded. I read alot. WebMD has some really good begining workouts and ideas, along with simple diet changes that don't turn your whole world upside down. Things I like to read: Eat this not that Strength training anatomy by Frederic…
  • It's all about small changes. Look at all those people that lost tons and gained it back. They didn't really change how they delt with food in thier life. For me losing the weight was easier. Maintaining is hard, but worth it!! You've already started changing some of your habits with speghetti, oatmeal, and all. Find the…
  • You can't cut out "All" carbs. Your body need them, it just doesn't need refined carbs. The drs at Kaiser said very rarely can you sleeve stretch. Those who are eating more and gaining usually are grazing and eating empty calories. They've learned to eat around thier tool. I had surgery July 2010. My best advice is the…
  • Like the other poster the last 10 lbs are rough. Sometimes your body hangs on and then all of a sudden it comes off. That is what plateaus are. You just keep eating health and exercising. You can try some other things like weight lifting, carb cycling.... but I would keep to eating healthy and exercise. You'll do it.
  • If your band has slipped, that is way more important than 5 lbs on the scale. Mine slipped cutting off anything getting thru and caused my esphogus to be herniated. I had mine converted to a sleeve, but still have problems with the herniated part of my esophogus. Get that fixed ASAP even if you just have it taken out.
  • People have mentioned starving yourself with 1200, but also your body is not able to get the nutrition you need. If you lose more than 1-2 lbs a week, you need to look at your plan. I made myself sick doing that, and people said I looked gray. I was 314 when I started. Very discouraging. Start off with measuring…
  • It's the only thing I buy from GNC, but you can find them every once in while at other stores on sale. I try to get them for a dollar or less, and I buy a lot at a time. If they get hard put them in the microwave, but make sure you take the wrapper off before nuking.
  • I'm vain when it comes to my stomach. I don't want to lift or reach for something and you can see my belly (not pretty!!). I wear a one piece swim suit under my workout clothes. Tummy doesn't show, I don't jiggle as much, don't even have to wear a bra. Then if I decide to swim, I'm ready.
  • Try to stay away from anything that comes from a bag, box or can. With the exception of frozen veggies.
  • You say you are not counting calories, but are you logging your food and checking portion sizes? Sometimes it's amazing how much we are eating when we feel like we are starving ourselves. Portion size is very decieving sometimes. Exercise is great. It has helped me in the maintenance phase, but I still have to watch my…
  • Just weigh in once a week. Don't use the scale as the only measurement of success. Take all your measurements including your body fat percentage. Take pictures in a bathing suit or tight work out clothes. These are not for publishing, but for your peace of mind. The scale has so many things that effect it, that I wouldn't…
  • I looked up Cytomel and it mentions one of the reasons you may need it is if you are extremely cold. That is the one symptom no one has mentioned before with thyroid problems. Excessive hair loss, fatigue, and all the rest, but never cold. Is cold a problem for everyone else? Here I sit in CA freezing my rear off and I…
  • I hate when people suggest high calorie foods, just because someone needs to gain weight! See if your insurance covers a nutritionalist. You don't want him to get into bad habits with his nutrition just because he needs to gain weight. Weight training is a great way to gain definition to his body and weight in the process.…
  • Unfortunately our society thrives on the horror/gorry stories. I had Lap band, then had it converted to Gastric Sleeve. I have my story too. What it did for me was get me to a place I have never been before. I have always been dramatically overweight. Growing up and in adulthood I was discriminated against for my weight. I…
  • Everyone is different. What works for one may not work for another. I was 314 lbs. I know the feeling of failure and despiration that hits when you gain or don't lose what you think you should have. What I learned was, learn how to eat. As corny as they are the "Eat this not that" books are a good start. I eat things now I…
