  • This is a great question that I've often asked myself. I've lost 25lbs and toned up quite a bit and before I began I felt that if I lost the weight it would make me happier. I wouldn't have to feel self conscious and my physical relationship with my husband would improve, I would be more outgoing and just in general be...…
  • When doing a squat make sure that your knees don't go over your toes and that you keep your weight in your heels. It should feel like you're trying to sit not crouch and you can practice by putting a chair behind you and focusing on your knee position, that way you have the chair to fall back on if you lose balance. Your…
  • Do anything you can with bodyweight. Push-ups, crunches, leg lifts, jumping jacks, burpees, etc. Modify things if needed so that you don't put strain on anything that hurts so that you can recover faster.
  • You should keep going and just suffer through it for the time being. You're body needs time to adjust to your new workouts, for me personally it took about 2-3 weeks. It's hard to workout when you're super sore but if you don't push it you'll never get past that hump. You can do it!!! Don't be scared, boot camps are…
  • The big thing with weight training is don't jump into it like you're the hulk. Start off with lighter weights and wee how you feel before increasing them. Cardio is up to you, for me personally I lift before I do cardio because I don't want muscle fatigue to impact my weight lifting sessions.
  • I do two a days now and I love it. It's all up to you, just make sure you're eating enough calories and if you're feeling worn out give yourself a couple days to reset before jumping back into it. Also for your owning cardio I suggest doing something where you can spike your heart rate then bring it back down, like…
  • My fitness goal is to earn my Spartan Trifecta next year. It's giving me motivation to keep going and it will be a tangible way to see how far I've come and how gar I'd like to go in the future.
  • For six months I worked out constantly and even though I only lost 10 lbs I lost 15" off of my frame. I wear a smaller size and am much more defined because I gained muscle and lost fat and muscle takes up much less space than fat. Providing you are not actively trying to put on large amounts of muscle or eating too many…
  • Everything you do will make a difference because everything adds up. On a side note though are you going off what the elliptical is saying you burned? I recently read an article talking about how ellipticals can overestimate your calorie burn by like 40%. If you're going to keep working out I suggest investing in a HRM for…
  • It's taken me a long time to really come to terms with my self confidence and physical appearance. It was only in the last couple months that I truly realized that we all have our own journeys and run our own races. What we do has nothing to do with anyone around us, we have no idea how they got to the point they're at and…
  • It sounds like you need to weight train. Lifting weights will not bulk you up but instead build lean muscle that will tighten everything and give a the toned appearance you'd like. There's a great article about toning and lifting on nerd fitness.
  • My understanding is that your not neccasarily burning fat as much as you are building muscle. My trainer told me that an hour of weightlifting burns about 100 calories. EDIT: I found a good article about it. http://www.sparkpeople.com/blog/blog.asp?post=you_asked_how_many_calories_does_strength_training_burn
  • My motivation is myself. I never worked out before and in the last seven months I've started to really see what my body is capable of. I recently ran my first 10k and I plan on earning my Spartan trifecta next year. The human body is a truly amazing thing and I can't wait to see how far I can push myself! I feel strong and…
  • Thank you! Pole dancing classes sound awesome, I wish they were offered where I live.
  • I do! When I reach my short term goal (which has taken much longer than anticipated :/ ) I'm going to reward myself with a Garmin Forerunner 220 gps watch so I can use it during mud runs. Only ten more pounds...
  • Things are fine in moderation and as long as you aren't eating large amounts daily you should be fine. If you need help with portion control I suggest Smart Ones desserts. They have a delicious cookie dough sundae that is 140 calories and it helps because you can just grab it, eat it, and get on with your day, no measuring…
  • I LOVE my Polar FT4, super accurate and easy to program.
  • I wish! I'm not yet strong enough physically to compete (next year though, here I come!) but I just wanted to tell you that's awesome you're going to participate. Have fun!
  • I love my Polar FT4! The chest strap is super comfy, I even forget I have it on. The watch looks nice, isn't overly large and gives me quick heart rate readings and is easy to program. I definitely recommend it.
  • I use a HRM because it's difficult to guess how hard you're working out, then I created a cardiovascular exercise called 'Bootcamp' that I can select when needed and only have to enter my duration now.
  • I want to join! 3/1 - 4.25 3/4 - 1.1
  • Endomondo is great for running, walking, biking, etc. it's free and you can sync it to MFP so it automatically adds your activities.
