  • I would just log the lemon if you really want to be precise. Teas AFAIK don't have more than a calorie or two per cup, which is trivial enough that you don't need to log. Truvia is 0-calorie. So, just log "fresh lemon juice" or whatever it's called, and choose "1 wedge yields" for your amount.
  • Oh and hemp powder is supposed to be a good source. I personally find the taste a little overwhelming, but some people really like it. It's very nutty.
  • I'll second Vega powders. I sometimes use their "complete" powder (like protein, carb, fat, and multivitamin in one) as a breakfast shake, but I think they also have ones that are more protein-focused. They don't taste great mixed with water, but with non-dairy milk (I like flax) or a banana added they taste fine.
  • I'm definitely more food-focused than most people, which I think is in some ways a cause of my being overweight (constantly seeking new recipes and having lots of different foods in the house,) in some ways a symptom (thinking about food all the time as The Enemy or something I need to "break up with,") and in some ways a…
  • I've got a huge weight gap between me and my fiance. I'm about 270 and 5'4", he's only about 160 and 6'0". I joke that my weight loss goal is to "lose one fiance," because his average weight is also roughly the amount that I want to lose from my high weight. There are definitely times when I feel insecure about how much I…
  • Yeah, the few times people say I look like some celebrity the only real resemblances are hair style and that they're also fat. But if someone says I look like Beth Ditto or Adele or whomever and I respond "because we're both fat?" they always backtrack right away and scramble to come up with other similarities. So, I get a…
  • I don't really look like anybody, but looking at your pics I'll throw in a vote for your resemblance to Kate Mara.
  • Last fall I had nearly the same lunch every day that I had class, and it only took about 10 minutes to prep in the morning. I bought the big bag of frozen salmon filets from Aldi (each one is individually wrapped) for something like $8 for 12 pieces. I would keep a couple filets in the fridge so they'd be thawed/ready.…
  • Remember also that a chiropractor is not a medical doctor, and more than likely has little or no training in nutrition, medicine, diet, or anything other than how to whack a spine. For treating back pain, chiropractors are great. They can also help you a lot with posture. They really can't do much, if anything, else.
  • An egg, extra-extra-thick bacon, and tomato-onion jam on a croissant, 1/3 of a malted waffle with butter and syrup, a little salad with carrots, cherry tomatoes, and buttermilk ranch, and a traditional macchiato (espresso with just a tiny bit of warmed milk.) It's my non-logging day, so this was my fancy brunch of the week.
  • Trader Joe's has some good (cheap!) GF pasta and bread options. Their quinoa-rice pasta is similar to wheat pasta in taste and texture, and their corn pasta is pretty similar to white (though it's bright yellow, the taste difference is minimal.) Make sure to check labels. Most now will say "gluten free," "gluten safe," or…
  • My "trick" for fattier dressings (ranch, creamy caesar, etc) is to cut them with some apple cider or wine vinegar. That way I get enough dressing to cover a salad for fewer calories. My personal favorite is caesar (non-creamy,) either homemade or Newman's Own (because it's cheap and easy-to-find.) I also like Trader Joe's…
  • Tight around the butt means you have more butt, which can be a good or bad thing depending on your goals. It does mean your squats are working!
  • edit: whoops, pulled the trigger a lil too fast
  • Thanks for the info! I might check them out soon, though over the summer I'll probably be trying to get most of my produce from local markets.
  • I know a big factor for me gaining as much weight as I did was a burst of weight gain I had just before puberty. While I was just *barely* actually overweight for my age/height, it was enough that I was mocked and demeaned constantly for being "fat," including by gym teachers at school. Any kind of physical activity was…
  • Log a cup each of two of the vegetables you had. Log 5 chunks of pineapple (or 1 ring, or whatever) Log 1 tbsp peanuts. etc etc Just log each element--you know what you ate, and if you just log the things you ate, you'll get a decent estimate. Avoid using Quick Add unless the restaurant lists calories.
  • I'm having a Talenti caramel gelato bar right now. 170 cal, decadent, and just the right size not to feel too tiny.
  • Nope. ~10 cals/minute for moderate walking pace is very typical for people in the high 200s, confirmed with an HRM, my doctor, and loads of data.
  • Unless you weigh about 2 lbs*, you're burning more than 120 cals in 90 minutes of walking outside. Your ticker has you trying to lose 150+ lbs--I'm guessing you're close to my weight, in which case the 700 cals the treadmill tells you is a lot more accurate than what your pedometer is saying. *or something like that
  • Eat what looks good, and if you're torn between a few different choices, then use "what fits my diet most easily" as a criteria. IE, first decide what you want to eat, and only then think too much about your diet (for a one-day thing, not when eating out in general.) If the place doesn't list nutrition on the menu or…
  • My name's Emily, I'm 20, I'm 5'4" and started at 315 (now down to ~375).
  • I guess I should just start secretly adding it to my fiance's food and see if he notices.
  • We don't have Sainsbury's around here, but I'd like to rep for pre-chopped winter veggie mixes in general. One of my favorite things to make is to buy a whole chicken, a bag of pre-diced butternut squash, parsnip, and turnip, and put the vegetables under the chicken in a crock pot. I rub the outside of the chicken with…
  • I have every size from 12 to 26, and the clothes that *fit* are anywhere from 16 to 26. Which is pretty ridiculous, and says something about how women's clothing sizes work.
  • I'm not "small" yet, but I did have an odd moment when I posted a new Facebook profile picture recently. My old one was of me 40 lbs heavier. I got comments on the new one saying I must feel lucky to have such defined cheekbones... and I thought "I have cheekbones???" Sure enough, they're juuuuust starting to be visible…
  • I'm not anti-fluoride but I don't like some of the other ingredients in most commercial toothpaste (I really dislike the foamy feeling) so I make my own tooth powder. It's just baking soda, xylitol (the same sweetener in most sugar-free gum,) and a little peppermint oil. I use plain hydrogen peroxide as a mouth rinse. It's…
  • Does caffeine help you eat less? Then GCBE will also. Are there cheaper and easier ways to get caffeine? Yes.
  • You can't spot reduce fat, but if you already have very little fat, lifting and doing core exercises will give you more muscle definition and sometimes help tighten up the skin in that area and make it look a little flatter/more defined.
