@PrincessTinyHeart Re not buying the minute we get the idea we want something is a great question and one I am not sure how to answer easily but it may be easier because I am a self-employed writer and my husband runs a creative video shop. We both have decent by unpredictable revenue flowing in, so we are afraid to spend…

My husband and I are not competitive people either, but we do like spending time together. We challenge each other to find new walks or hikes to do in the area. But one of the best things we ever did is learn to ice skate (he was 53 and I was 46 when we started). The rinks in British Columbia are open all year long, so you…

I feel your pain.... I have been doing the full physical testing rounds to make sure I am okay to start HRT. I've just had two periods on short (20 days and 18 days) cycles. My doctor still needs me to come in and talk before we move forward. I am moody (bitchy, really), exhausted, unable to focus, barely able to complete…

Thanks @its_whisper for the link. I drilled down a bit on the website story, the comments that followed, and did a quick PubMed search for more recent studies, including one from 2016 that found no correlation between PMS symptoms and caffeine intake…
-
@its_whisper Could you please provide the link to that study? I'd like to know how they are defining extreme anxiety and the size of the sample cohort in the study. How much caffeine was being ingested and how was the beverage prepared? Caffeine is a stimulant, so I'd expect to see it have greater effects on people with…

My initial goal was to lose the weight I gained after breaking my ankle three years ago. Almost there, so now I want to reach what I was before moving to Los Angeles from Japan..54kg in 2008.

If you are in British Columbia, like me, you can get data from this site: http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/epd/bcairquality/readings/find-stations-map.html. I have been opting for the Y and swimming, however, to avoid the smog and pollution.

Learn to knit, crochet or sew, where the projects are on your lap and your hands need to be clean. Just getting up to get a snack becomes less appealing because you have to set things aside before you get up and wash and dry your hands before you sit back down.

[quote My doctor suggested them for me last year following a concussion, and the mood swings that brought on. They were horrible. Made everything way worse. And then going off them was even worse than that. I was a basket case for a full 2 weeks trying to come off them. I know that everyone reacts differently to them, but…

Thanks for this!

Thanks for sharing. I will start reading everything I can find.

Thank you! I have shared with my husband to help him prepare, too ; )

Tempeh. Love tofu and seitan, especially if we make them at home, but tempeh just seems wrong.

Fish and chips with vinegar at Pajo's at the mouth of the Fraser in Steveston (where they film Once Upon a Time).

Thanks! It seemed a bit strange to me.

Hello everyone, I am 48 (for a few more days anyway) and just entering perimenopause. Saw my doctor this morning seeking a confirmation because my sleep patterns have changed dramatically in the last few months. While the flushing, sleep issues and irritability suggest perimenopause, I am still getting periods every month,…

Hi. I'd like to try this month's challenge. My goals: 1. Run at least 3 times a week 2. Extending my run intervals to 10 minute runs, 2 minutes walk (currently at 10:5) 3. Run the whole of Burnaby Lake by the end of July (that is 10k), I currently run one-third of the and speed walk the rest.
-
Am I too late for this challenge? If not, please sign me up. Thanks!

When I broke my ankle four years ago, I asked the doctor two questions: 1. When can I start running again? 2. When can I play squash again? 6 weeks and 3 months, assuming the break is clean. It was, but I have never felt such pain in my life. I was basically stuck in bed for two weeks. During that time I was less worried…

This. Often, if you don't meal plan, are not a family of 4 or more, not a big eater, not from North America, love to cook, hate to waste food, these options help make things more efficient and less wasteful. I am from Montreal. My husband and I shopped daily for our meals and prepped them at home that night. We never had…

We also have both romaine and iceberg on hand. Iceberg lettuce fills out salads and makes a great nibble food when prepping dinner. Romaine grills better, but iceberg wedges with blue cheese can really make my day.
-
We make buffalo cauliflower with roasted cauliflower or florets tossed in cornstarch and pan-fried. Then we toss with hot sauce and eat with lettuce and blue cheese dressing my hubby makes. It takes the urge for wings away, and we are starting to prefer these mock wings...

My husband and I are planning to start the 5:2 fast diet in three weeks (long, uninteresting story). Would be happy to learn from you, swap recipe ideas, and encouragement. The real challenge for me is being home all day. I am a writer and work from home. When I am stuck and my tummy rumbles I tend to graze. I need…

In order: Broccoli (can't even have it in the house), those bitter greens that people in Los Angeles love to pair with Balsamic vinegar, kale (with the exception of a massaged kale and mango salad that my husband makes) and beets. Is it odd that I love Brussels sprouts and cauliflower, but cannot go near broccoli?

I'll second the Brooks Ghost series! I have walked several marathons and run several shorter races in Ghost trainers (my first was 2, I am now at 6) never a blister and perfect for high arches. I should also say, I have fitted insoles from Road Runner (Shoe Dog), in case that makes a difference.
