The way @gieshagirl specifically called out "sugar" leads to the understanding that the diabetics she is talking about are somehow unable to take insulin to cover "sugar" and that they should abstain from "sugar." In fact, sugar is like any other source of net carbs in this regard. And diabetics can eat "sugar" and any…

Are these type 1's or type 2's? Why are they trying to stay away from carbs (sugar)? Teenagers will have more BG fluctuations (and challenges) than others under similar circumstances. BG is affected by dozens of factors, including hormones.[/quote] these are type 1 diabetics. some with new diagnosis and others that have…

this is true. I am a nurse at a high school and several diabetic students...they eat what they want, try to stay away from sugar...yeah right....calculate carbs and adjust per meal. all of the diabetics at my school are on this now. since they don't adhere well to the rules....sugar....the blood sugar levels are all over…

one trick that I use is a muffin tin. sounds crazy right? 2 words...portion control. I make several dishes in 1 day. portion and weigh into muffin tins freeze and pop out into freezer bag and label. when meal time comes...take an empty muffin tin and put in 2-4 items (depending on what it is and whether side dishes are…

didn't think I needed it either....but when I began to weigh and measure everything....wow was I surprised!! this was part of my delusion that I didn't need it. trust me...the weigh and measure is super important!!

im thinking about getting one too. everyone I have talked with says that they are worth the money and are great to track and motivate. that being said, a lot of people have stated that the clasp part is easily broken and some are a 2 person event to get on properly (or it becomes unclasped and falls off) I will be watching…

try special K pastry crisps. they have several flavors and only 100 calories for 2! and the best part is ....they taste like pop tart without the super calories (400 per tart)

Anyone out there been at a similar crossroads? yes! I had a bypass 1992 and I weighed 360 and I was 32 and 5 foot 4 inches and miserable. I had no support, family telling me not to had a super stressful job and 2 kids. the Boom moment for me was when I realized what I had done...I was walking 5 miles a day, swimming laps 1…

the carbonic acid that makes the carbonation actually eats the enamel off your teeth making you 8x more likely to have cavities or tooth shattering with eating. (brittle think enamel) also the bubbles make your whole system more acidic...this can lead to ulcers and skin breakouts. Caffeine is a stimulant and you can become…

this sounded so good I made it this morning....OMG! never thought I would have breakfast to go in 1 min. that is this wonderful!

this! I did it too. it takes the body a little while to realize that you really are not trying to starve it and it doesn't need to store everything as FAT!
-
that is how we all feel at 1st. the commitment to a long haul with small victories and better health is so different than what everyone in the world is saying. welcome! we are all in this struggle! Good luck!!:drinker:

started gaining again....I use to be 360 lbs. I knew that I needed to stop that before it got crazy out of control. and this time I wanted to do it in a healthy way so that this will never be an issue again...just living
-
as a school nurse in a high school I can tell you that if you gained 10 pounds in 2 months then it didn't move again ....birth control but if you had a long term steady gain over 6 months or more...think activity. young adults slow a lot as we go into adulthood and early 20-30s. with the decreased activity comes either…

think I will go shopping for things that I had blown off as yuck. the oatmeal is fantastic! thanks!

this is so backwards from what I was taught....but they are correct. I shot myself into starvation mode and my metabolism sunk like a rock....lots of water and use the tools.

I am thinking about one too! I have heard that the straps are cheap and don't go together smoothly and fall off. I want to know how well they GPS track you indoors. I have fitness run and it cant pick up indoors. fit bit recalled one...saw that on the fitbit site yesterday.
