I had VSG in 2014, went from 230 down to 170. By summer 2018, I regained and weighed 203. I had previously done low carb dieting with some success pre-VSG. So, in July 2018, I went keto and have stuck to it faithfully. My weight has decreased from 203 to 183. I track blood glucose and that has definitely improved. I feel…

Hi! I was sleeved in June 2014. (236/169/199). I lost the weight pretty quickly. Then, I gained about 10-15 pounds back per year. It has all been mental. Eating the crunchy, carby, crispy, fatty and sweet things that I should not. Drinking alcohol (even one beverage is a snacking trigger for me). Worst, I used to exercise…

That's a good plan. Being right out of surgery, you wouldn't want to go to weight watchers! I can't even imagine the crap you would get being on a liquid diet and eating ~800 calories per day. When you can eat solids and have regular small meals it is more appropriate

about 1400-1500 per day. i'm about 1.5 years out and put on 15 lbs recently. i joined weight watchers and i like it. 32 points works out to about 1400-1500 calories per day.

I think that article is a good, middle of the road piece. I have a few comments: 1. I was on Atkins and ate primal/paleo for years, and for a period of about 10 months, actively monitored whether I was in ketosis by using keto sticks. I found that if I ate 50 grams or higher net carbs in a day, it would kick me out of…

THANKS FOR YOUR INPUT! I joined weight watchers on Tuesday, and I am really happy with it. I have been logging on MFP and on the WW app (which is similar, but counts points instead of calories). Yesterday, I ate/drank all of my 32 WW points, and it turned out to be about 1,400 calories. If I ate more free foods (most…

I am dry brushing then using a collagen/firming moisturizer on trouble spots.

If you are hungry and low energy, you either need to exercise less or eat more. If the MD does not want you to eat more, then your only choice is to (1) obey her order and end up exercising less, or (2) ignore her order and eat more. So, you have to pick what you want to do. At 6 weeks out, it is probably more important to…

I have been scrubbing in the shower, then following with a collagen/elastin moisturizer (St. Ives brand), which I rub in pretty well. I was also told that discrete, repetitive movements to the area (crunches, other similar exercises), help out.

I am seven months out, and I love soup. I make a big pot on the weekends and have it for lunch throughout the week. It has to be really thick, though, as others indicated, or else I don't get filled up. A good 3/4 cup serving of stew or chili keeps me from lunch until 3 or 4 p.m. without any issue. I love chili made with…

You are a wonderful, thoughtful person whose participation on our forum has helped so many (me and others). However, being an "inspiration" is a lot of pressure. You do not need to shoulder that burden, especially when you are struggling. Like Elsa said: "Let it go. Let it go." (Yes, I have an 8 year old daughter). You are…

I love my digital kitchen scale. It is a great tool for measuring out portions of food to eat (3 oz chicken, 3 oz rice, etc.)... but I think that the BEST way to use a kitchen scale is to measure ingredients for when you make your own recipes. I used to be a "little of this, little of that" cook, and never had any real…

Congrats  I think the "window" is different for each of us. I know people who lose consistently for years. In fact, my own sister has maintained a 180 lb weight loss (from 360 lbs starting weight) for several years. It took her about 2-3 years to get rid of that weight. I think it depends on how much you have to…

Noooooooo!!! The mom is NOT always supposed to put herself last. That is bologna. You need to eat healthy. If your family eats your healthy food and leaves you with nothing good to eat, that is a huge problem for you. It undermines your health and wellness. When you are healthy and well, it means you will live longer and…

I know what you mean. I've lost 60 lbs, and have 25 pounds to go. I had a whirlwind weight loss last year and things have now slowed down. I still have a "journey" ahead of me to get to where I want to be. The hard part has been realizing/internalizing how far I've come (because I sure don't feel thin), and dealing with…

Welcome back  Feel free to friend me!

Congrats! Me too! I am overweight and about 25 pounds away from a "normal" BMI, after losing 60 lbs last year. My 1 year anniversary is June 9th! I am hoping to get to normal by then! Good luck to you

I second this! Even if you made a mistake having surgery, what is done is done. This is good advice for salvaging what you can from a less than ideal situation. One more thing I would suggest: I have been greatly helped over the years by returning to an audio CD by Pema Chodron called "Getting Unstuck". It is about 3 hours…

My one comment is that you need to have confidence in your support team. So if you have misgivings, consider shopping around for another surgeon's office, if that option is available to you. I would also be candid with your surgeon about what happened. They don't want their staff to make patients uneasy.

I guess you could measure or weigh the oil before you cook the fish, then measure or weigh the oil after you cook the fish. The difference is the amount of oil that is now in the food that you will eat (less any that drips off of it while it cools, I suppose). I don't know any other way to accurately calculate how much oil…

I don't think there is much you can do. Your skin is either going to snap back some or none at all, depending on the factors that the other commenters have noted above. My sister recently went to a plastic surgeon to consult about having her excess skin removed, and he told her that the biggest factor was how obese you…

Agreed. This advice matches what I was told by my team. You are going to have trouble getting in enough protein and calories to begin with, and you won't have enough belly volume to accomodate raw veggies. Honestly, I am 6 months post-op, and I eat very few raw veggies at this point.

Good luck to you! I am sure you will do well

These are good questions. I think you have it covered. The best way to have them answered and to figure out if you need to know more, is to attend support groups for WLS patients. Do they have those where you are? For me, I had to go to them as part of my preparation for surgery. They were the best way to get the real…

One hack that I suggest is to change the format of your diary from the default. I did it and I love it. Instead of the default 3 meals and snack, my daily diary is divided by "Breakfast - 200 calories", "Mid-Morning Snack - 100 calories", "Lunch - 200 calories", "Mid-Afternoon Snack - 100 calories", "Dinner - 200…

Love this, and it is spot-on. Comments like that ARE a veiled excuse for the failures of the speaker. One of the things that gets me is that most of the people I know who've had WLS have lived a life with major impediments to maintaining a healthy weight - they can be physical, emotional, or social impediments. These…

My dear - you spent hours preparing 260 cookies. How you managed not to crumble them up and dive into them, ala Scrooge McDuck, speaks to your amazing powers! I would not be able to resist! You don't have to be perfect, or even reasonably good, every day, just most days.

It can be uncomfortable for the normal spouse when the chunky spouse starts to get healthy. They can't help comparing what you are doing to what they are not doing. We don't have a food conflict issue in my house. We have, historically, had an exercise conflict issue in my house: My husband is healthy and doesn't really do…
