  • Hmm I might look into that. I'm happy on the 5:2 - it doesn't feel like you're on a diet most of the time, which I prefer to counting calories every day, and it's refreshing to remind yourself that you can skip a meal and won't collapse from starvation!! I think you're right about keeping the cals up on 'normal' days…
  • Thanks for recommendations and links - I've read so many different reviews that contradict each other, so I think giving him some money to choose his own might be the best option!!
  • Avocado makes a really good breakfast - mash one with the juice of half a lemon and some salt and pepper, then spread on wholegrain toast. Keeps you full until lunch and is delicious.

  • A woodlouse in my piece of cauliflower - I didn't eat it again for at least ten years!
  • I had a goitre - it's how I first found out I was hypothyroid. Mine went away within around six months of starting treatment and despite some troubles with medication changes along the way, hasn't returned (almost six years later).

  • Before Michael Jackson died I didn't really understand people getting upset about celebrities dying. However, being in the middle of a long trip in a foreign country that I wasn't really enjoying, missing my partner, in the middle of the night, and finding out via a text... I was in floods of tears! It's mainly because he…
  • At the moment I'm living in a country with good ready to eat pancakes, so I have pancakes with something sweet for breakfast with tea. At home I usually have something savoury on toast (hard boiled egg, cheese or sometimes marmalade). For lunch I nearly always have a sandwich and an apple - not that hungry during the day,…
  • You have a lovely figure, I wish I had a waist like that! Really nice dress too :-)
  • I am hypothyroid and find what I can eat changes depending on how stable my meds are - last year I went very hyper and lost loads of weight no matter what I ate, but then again I couldn't really eat much out of anxiety for about eight months anyway! I had a period of initial recovery where I could eat loads and not gain,…
  • It sounds like he's finding your new body shape an adjustment, but I'm sure the longer you have it, the more he'll accept it as 'you'. My SO vaguely notices when I lose weight/tone up, but to him it's a bit of a non-event that he doesn't want to make a big deal of - though the other day he did say I looked like I'd lost…
  • You can definitely see it around your stomach and waist. I'm so jealous of your hourglass shape!
  • I'm a newish 26 year old, feel free to add :-)
  • I never eat McDonalds or much fast food at all when I'm in the UK, but when I spent a few months abroad I did have it for various reasons - comfort, living by myself, they had free wifi, etc. I found that the more I had it, the more I wanted it - it was so addictive! I honestly think the amount of salt and sugar (yes, in…
  • Thanks, I'll give that a go!
  • Good strong cup of builder's tea with a couple of sugars.
  • Hey, I just found this topic - I was diagnosed with hypothyroid nearly 4 years ago now at 21 after growing a great big goitre! Hypo AND hyper are very persistent in the women in my family, so it wasn't a massive surprise. I didn't think I had symptoms at the time but realised afterwards that it had been causing mild…
  • I think if you keep at it you may get past it - I felt sick quite a lot when I started exercising back in Feb/March, but I very rarely do now. Things to do with your stomach muscles were worst for me, but once I'd actually built some the nausea went away!
  • I hate compliments, I always think people are feeling sorry for me or something! Have practiced saying 'thank you' instead of trying to persuade them out of it...
  • My boyf is supportive because we've kind of embarked on getting more fit together - not on purpose really, it's just happened! He doesn't like me monitoring my food much though - I just find it interesting to do but I think he's bored of hearing about protein and sugar, poor thing! Don't really talk about it to the rest of…
  • Nothing is completely off-limits, but in the process of trying to cut down the sugar I am trying very hard to give up ice lollies - because they're low-calorie I'd eat 2-3 some nights after dinner, but I know they just give me a sugar high and have me jumping around the flat at 11pm when I should be going to bed!
  • I've been to a lot of gigs over the years, but these were my favourites: Pixies, Radiohead, The Flaming Lips, Morrissey, PJ Harvey, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, David Bowie, Belle & Sebastian, David Byrne, Skunk Anansie.
  • If you can, try and find a UK brand called Longley Farm - it has a little cow on the front of a white tub. It's so different to the watery stuff you get in supermarkets - more solid, creamy, and much tastier! I think some supermarkets have it but more often I see it in health food shops.
  • I lost about 15lbs in 2009-2010, and I've been much the same weight since then, but I think my mum remembers me fat - every time I go home to visit she says 'oh, you've lost weight again, how much do you weigh now?' I'm like - 'um, the same as last time you saw me...' I think she has a mental image of me as heavier that…
  • Hello - can I join the University Challenge if it's still going? I'm 26 and a postgrad, in the 3rd year of PhD and (after 9 years of uni!) finally trying to get fit. I'm not too bothered about losing weight but I want to be able to run faster and have more muscle!
  • I agree, eggs are great, but if you want a change sometimes yoghurt is great. I think to really fill you up it has to be thick, full fat, Greek style yoghurt, which (I recently found out!) has as much protein as a protein shake. A medium-small serving is less than 150 calories and I have it with seeds, whatever fruit I…
  • Thanks people, I might have to give the steel cut oats a try!
  • I have a Shock Absorber (not sure if you get those in the States?) and it's the best I've ever had (DD cup) - it even gives me a bit less back fat sticking out than I had with previous ones, which is always a bonus ;-) Here is what I bought:…
  • The route is 5.3km and we took 31 minutes to do it, I think we were at a moderate pace? I feel mostly good - great for the first 20 minutes, then it gets harder and stopping when we did felt about right I think.
