You can do it, check out Hal Higdon training programs. I just did his half training about two months ago and now starting the full. Remember that you won't be setting any land speed records but your goal is to finish. During your training the long runs that you do will be at a slower pace and the idea is to get used to…

Ask me in the first mile of my run and 90% of the time I will tell you I hate it, ask me after that and I will tell you 70% of the time I love it, ask me after a 9+ mile run and I will 99% of the time love it.

It's not silly by any means. I love running in the rain because once a runner is wet.......they are wet. I run in my normal gear for the current temps for the day.

Like everyone else has commented. Water lots of water, I drink water all day everyday to stay hydrated. Some like to stash water, some carry water in a belt, or I like the camelbak. Slow down and let your body adjust to the heat and you will be fine as long as you hydrate.

Stay away from cotton socks, I am currently trying out different brands as we speak. I have two pairs of running shoes, different brands and earned a blister on a 9 mile run last weekend. There is a lot of info out there on socks. http://www.runnersworld.com/running-apparel/choose-right-running-socks

Agree, In my own personal experience, I started back running after a long long layoff. I bought a polar ft7. My heart rate at first was in the 160-170 range during my 30 min runs. Now fast forward 3 months my heart rate stays about 150's during all of my runs from 3-9 miles.

Rocky Balboa: Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place, and I don’t care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard…
