Not saying fasting is a whack job idea. I am saying that people feeling desperate about immediate fatloss on the scale may/do turn to fasting as a quick fix. That urgency and seeking behavior is problematic. I know how it can feel--and acting out to seek rapid weight loss needs to be recognized and addressed. Fasting in an…

I think folks with disordered thoughts & behaviors around food can know this about themselves, if not innately then with some gentle counseling for insight. Certainly healthy eating is not itself a disorder! And yet the obsession and strong reactions/rituals/need for exact control for those who do have issues in this area…

Saw a 5+ lbs drop on the scale after my last weigh-in a few weeks ago. Guess my fatlossometer isn't broken after all. The mental hijinx were interesting to observe, that's for sure. If I were orthorexic, I'd probably have been inventing all kinds of elaborate elimination diet rituals or rushing to fasting as a "fix it"…

Yikes!! Wishing you a FULL and speedy recovery.

But I did drop 17…

LOVE the engagement on this thread. So great to learn from everyone's experiences. And I just got the best chuckle from the phrase "cicophant," @Christine_72! However flawed CICO may be (and as much as I resent the puritanical insistence upon ALL and ONLY CICO that assails so many newcomers to fat loss), I do find that if…

Hearing your self-observation and careful consideration about measurements and maintenance is really helpful, @midwesterner85. What a great gift to give yourself, that BodPod test! How have you been tracking your bodyfat % thus far? I suppose we can all expect some muscle loss if we have a lot of fat to lose. I do want to…

Isn't it, though? SO grateful that the foods available to me on keto are so fantastic--and that I know how to cook (and enjoy it!). I've been fortunate that somehow my desire for all my high-carb faves has seriously abated. Like, I walk past free, easily-accessible, nobody-would-know-I-ate-it sugary, savory carbage almost…

Whelp, I just got a bit of reduction on the scale after three+ weeks of dancing around the same 1-3 lbs. Seeing your chart, @camtosh, is a great reminder of the nonlinear way a lot of us lose weight. I'm glad to see a little movement into a new low--gives me reassurance that I'm heading in the right direction, ultimately.…

Most often I see folks measuring a baseline for each body part, then tracking changes to that baseline. I only see "total inches lost" in shilly adverts or the occasional person who wants to celebrate a total victory--but those folks then tend to share how many inches they lost per measurement area. I plan to track inches…

All of your stories and observations have been really insightful and reassuring! I wonder, for those who've been at this long enough to see patterns in their "stagnation-then-whoosh" fat loss process, what patterns do you see? Here's to another day of on-plan eating & self-care, no matter what the scale says!

For how I'm currently eating, the honey in these put them out of reach. If you do try them, tell us how you liked them!

Glad you're back, and I hope you're in good health!

I'm using collagen hydrolysate (aka collagen peptides) stirred into my coffee just about daily (when I don't forget to include it). Not sure how to know its benefits, especially because I'm also about 6 weeks into keto and that's been changing things for me as well. I've always had strong fingernails and hair, so I can't…

This thread is brought to us by the letter "H," for high fat.

I want to ask a question but really, truly want to emphasize that I mean absolutely no judgement or snark. You might know that I'm fairly new to keto, approaching my 2nd month. I'm wondering if your choice to go off-plan was planned? Do you feel that the carb foods you enjoyed was worth the work needed to release to…

The closest I can think of is my experiment frying up sliced "fat back" as its called in the US South. Basically pork skin w/a layer of fat (heavily salted; I rinsed off the salt & dried). Fried it in lard. Very tasty. Perhaps you can find pork skin or fat from the subcutaneous layer and try frying it? Packs quite a punch…

That's right, @canadjineh! For some reason, it was just much sweeter to taste than I remember. I think my taste buds are changing. I LOVE sauerkraut, including this meltingly-cooked style, and was so sad to leave it behind.

Ha. My "cheat" was a sole bite of the beautiful German potato dumpling I left on my plate, sitting on a bed of (strangely) sweetened sauerkraut I also left on the plate. The pan sauce on my pork roast might have had a starch binder, but there was so little I ate that too. The next day, heating pierogis for my partner, I…

SO exciting! Keep it going--you're clearly doing all the right things. Please let us know how things look for you on 12/25!

Might just be me, but the link just loops me back to this thread. Can you share that link again, @RalfLott?

Watched the scale dance up and down the same 1-2 pounds all week like an extra in Riverdance. Glad to see progress…

If you have it, smoked paprika would be a great addition to those seasoning mixes! A light hand, because it's a wonderfully full flavor that doesn't require tons.

SO fantastic! What great accomplishments! I hope you are so very proud of yourself. Please do keep us posted as you continue on your adventures in healing and good health!

I don't want to be that person who keeps referring newcomers to the posted sticky, but honestly, if you're still wrapping your mind around keto science... The Launch Pad at the top of the threads really is a great resource with posts, articles, and videos that I've found really helpful as I develop & tweak a well-balanced…

While you'll find folks here who don't choose vegetables, I wonder what "hating" vegetables really means for your overall health? How familiar are you with flavorful ways to prepare vegetables? With keto, with fat, you can cook vegetables in all kinds of tasty and nutritious ways. I'm a vegetable lover, so I know I'm…

Hey, all you lovely keto kinfolk! You'll find lots of great discussion, resources, and support at the Low Carber Daily Forum group, where low-carb, LCHF, and keto eaters come together here on MFP. http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/discussions/394-low-carber-daily-forum-the-lcd-group I'm heading into my 2nd month…

I have *no* idea. Part of the entertainment of going into my 2nd month of keto is watching the scale do all kinds of things. For where *I* am in the process, it seems the best thing for me to do right now is notice how I'm feeling (including the impatience & mental negotiating I put myself through when the scale…

I've seen highly favorable comments about their salted caramel. I'm a former barista and have really liked their almond, hazelnut, and raspberry-but these were the sugar syrups, and some time ago. It seems their SF offerings have increased, so I wonder if you could find a SF sampler pack?
