  • My main inspiration for exercising is so I can eat more! So yes, I do eat the calories earned from exercise. Granted, not all of them. Just depends on how hungry I am really or what food I fancy (avocados should have fewer calories, it's not fair). I'd say I typically eat 50-75% of the calories burned as wary about how…
  • That's great, thanks! I'll check them out.
  • Captain Awesome! As far as I'm aware a healthy meal is a balanced meal. If you wanna eat an egg yolk, it won't kill you. It won't fill you either...
  • Tortilla chips and dip. I won't stop til the bag is empty. One evening, I absentmindly ate over 1000cals worth of chips and dip after dinner! No more absentminded snacking for me. Planplanplan, tracktracktrack.
  • The first time I ran 5k it took me around 40 minutes! I had to start stop the whole way. I've come and gone from running many times. Getting back into it again and at the moment I can run 5k in 29mins. I'd like to be faster but I'm working on distance at the moment. Everyone's different, I'd say don't focus too much on…
  • I'm a cardio girl too! I'm such a wuss about going to the gym but I really wanna give weights a go. Helpful thread for the clueless, ta!
  • I have little to no self control when I drink. It's ridiculous. Not so much with the getting hammered but with the eating badly and sneaky cigarette Not to mention hungover eat-a-thons. I'm a week into a 2 month hiatus from alcohol. I won't be hungover so there's no excuse not to do early morning runs on weekends, I'll…
  • I love the shred & Jillian Michaels! Shred's easy to follow and as there's 3 levels you're less likely to get bored. I lost 2 inches from my waist doing it. I've just bought Bob Harper's Totally Ripped Core, I'm finding that harder but I'm hoping to get through it eventually.
  • I was mistaken for pregnant. My boyfriend at the time's friend's wee brother hadn't met me before but knew one of the group was pregnant and assumed it was me. No malice and he was mortified when I laughed it off as a beer belly. But that started me on the diet route. For all the people whose family are laughing at you, I…
  • Thanks! I've not worn one in over a decade cause of my insecurity over my pot belly - no more! I don't even need abs of steel so long as there's signifcantly les wobble, I'll be happy! I'm aiming to lose 0.5lbs a week. So far my exercise 'regime' consists of running 4*pw and cycling to work 5*pw and Bob Harper's Totally…
  • I want you stomach! You look great!
  • I get really thirsty / dry mouthed on runs over 5k. I got a running belt from Amazon that has 2 small water bottles attached that sit either side of your hips. It's really made a difference. Probably doesn't help that I run with my mouth open though...

  • Hi! I'm in a similar position. I've lost 4lbs and have maybe another 9 to go. I've just booked a holiday for the end of September, and while my original goal was to get in shape for a half marathon, I'm finding the holiday and bikini dread much more motivating! Good luck to you!

  • Up your cals and up your exercise. I set myself at 2lbs a week (1200cals) as I, somewhat dim-wittedly, thought this would make me lose my belly weight quickly. After realising I felt hungry and snarky, and reading stuff on here about how to lose weight / inches effectively, I changed to losing 0.5lbs a week (1570cals).…
  • I'm a from Glasgow and fed up of seeing things in ounces ;-)
  • My downfall is always a hangover. I have to eat my way out of them. I'm a bit of a lightweight so even a couple of glasses of wine can have me eating my weight in carby junk food. I've decided to give up alcohol for a few months to get myself properly back into shape. It will also save a lot of money! If you crave junk at…
  • I often toy with the idea of going back to veggie (now that I'm a 'sensible' adult). So long as you do your research and understand what your body needs daily (and where to get it) you'll be healthy. The weight dropped of me when I was veggie. Unfortunately so did my red blood cells and I became a quite poorly anaemic. But…
  • This is great, thanks!
  • Sounds like you know what you're doing! :-)
  • Ah, this may be where I'm going wrong. I've long legs and try to bound up them in massive leaps. It does not end well. I was told to avoid running on the balls of my feet (to avoid calf pain) so would this just be for the uphill part? I'll gie it a bash. I need to progress with hill training and at the moment I'm avoiding…
  • No, the only medication I'm on is inhalers for asthma. The cramps got so bad my doctor did some tests to check kidney function, but everything's a-ok. There wasn't much of a follow up after that! I drink litres of water a day because my office air con really dries out my throat. I've started using an electrolyte and…
  • Ah, ok I'll try these, thanks!
  • How did you find out it was a magnesium deficiency, if you don't mind me asking? I think maybe I need to do a bit more research.
  • Yay, no such thing as a dumb question then! Ta.
  • Thanks folks, I will give all of the above a try. I drink a lot of water, is it possible to flush potassium out with too much? That sounds quite dumb but I thought I'd ask. Stretching brings on cramps, maybe it is my poor fitness levels!
  • Show off! That's amazing, good luck with it!
  • I'm training for my first Half! Fitness is my focus, I'm really beginning to enjoy running. Getting that little bit further is massively rewarding. It's slow going for me at the minute. I'm working on distance rather than speed as I'm just starting out. Set myself a goal this week of covering 100miles by July first. Half…
  • My wee afternoon pick-me-up from my work's canteen, a small slice of Rocky Road - 560 cals! More cals than a Big Mac, mental. My other surprise was portion sizes. I was eating 2-3 portions of pasta in one sitting. It's amazing how little you actually need to fill you.
  • I love you for bringing this into my life.
