  • Check out the Eating Well website. They have some really great recipes and even have a series of menus that are calorie based. If I feel like I've gotten in a bit of a slump, I'll often pick something from here. http://www.eatingwell.com/recipes_menus/menus_meal_plans
  • I understand the difficulty you're having. My first major knee injury happened when I was 9 and they got progressively worse with repeated patellar dislocations. I finally had surgery 5 years ago which was partially successful in that my knee is more stable. The unsuccessful part is that the tendons etc were redone in a…
  • Definitely! I have lost weight on every vacation that I've taken because I'm walking so much. Even when I've been in countries like Greece, Italy and Spain and thoroughly enjoying my gelato and wine. I probably could have lost more weight without the goodies, but I'm OK with just enjoying the scenery and taking it all in.
  • There seems to be more information coming out in the news that indicates that artificial sweeteners can really mess with our brains. One thing about them is that they are hundreds of times sweeter than actual sugar, which is why you can use so little and still get that sweetness. Unfortunately our bodies don't register…
  • I find that if I'm really hungry, it's better for me to eat a healthier snack than to wake up in the night starving. One of my favorites right now is a couple of President's Choice Seven Grain Flax and Honey crackers with a tablespoon or two of Greek vanilla yogurt.
  • When you're sick, there's only so much you can do. Normally this doesn't last too long, so I think you'd be fine just going back to the regular calorie count when you're feeling better. I would probably avoid the poor quality foods. Hopefully you are feeling better soon.
  • I probably would have logged in the lower number, simply because if I actually burned the fewer number of calories it will be a bonus. I'd rather burn more than I think I did and eat based on the lower calorie count, than the opposite.
  • I found a book that has an amazing amount of helpful information. The Ultimate PCOS Handbook by Collette Cheung. It doesn't give one idea that is supposed to work for all of us, but explains the usefulness of different diets, vitamins, etc,
  • I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2001. At the time I had a hard time finding out much about how best to deal with it beyond the medication. Since then there seems to be more information about it and I've done some more research for myself. My doctor didn't mention anything to me about avoiding or limiting carbs, but I have…
  • I understand where you are coming from. I'm not a huge fan of green tea although I like most herbal teas. I've tried a couple of different flavours of green tea and am slowly acquiring a taste for it. Stash Moroccan Mint Green Tea is really nice. I use 2 bags for a pitcher (about 6 cups) of water. I add about a tablespoon…
  • Thanks for all the great advice. I'm already doing a fair bit of the meal prep suggestions. And I keep healthy snacks at work. I am a lab and xray tech so my job is very active and on a normal day it doesn't take long for the pedometer to hit 10000 steps. I eat very healthy but get frustrated that I'm not seeing the weight…
  • Make your own pita chips. I cut whole wheat pitas into the chip size that I want, put them on a cookie sheet and bake them until they're crispy. About 15 minutes at 350 degrees. You can also split the pitas in half before you bake them.
  • The Sonoma Diet Cookbook...even if you don't follow the whole diet idea, there area a lot of great recipes. I find that they are often a reminder for me about how good the simple basic foods can taste. And most of them are pretty easy to make.
  • There is an article here that gives a lot of really good information about "skinny-fat". You will need to copy and paste the link, because for some reason the hyperlink doesn't want to work. http://www.crossfitsouthbay.com/2011/05/skinny-fat
  • Like the others who responded to you, I weigh myself first thing in the morning and after emptying my bladder. I try not to weigh in more than once a week simply because some fluctuation is normal and there's no need in getting discouraged. I have heard that your weight can change by 5 lbs, or more throughout the day. I…
  • I use either the Dance, Ballroom Fast or the Dance, aerobic when adding this to my exercise journal. The ballroom gives a slightly higner calorie burn, so I use this on the days when I've really pushed myself and on the days when I have worked out but not gone above and beyond I use the aerobic.
  • I have the Zumba for Wii and really like it. It took a bit to get used to and to get some of the moves figured out, but was easier to learn and follow than the Gold's Gym Dance Workout (also for Wii). The Zumba music is really fun and I occasionally get songs stuck in my head which just makes me want to do some of the…
  • I called in and asked them to add more workout videos because they only have the one choice for here in Canada. I was told that they simply don't have all of the liscensing yet and if they get more requests for it, it may happen sooner. The guy I spoke to in Customer Support was really helpful.
  • These workout videos do not seem to be available in Canada, which I found to be very disappointing. Maybe if enough of us are asking for it, Netflix will fix that and give us the variety that those of you get further south.
  • I understand how frustrating that can be. My job requires me to be available for 24 hours/day for at total of one week out of the month. I know that might not sound like all that much, but I find that so often I just get a nice routine set up and then do a couple of nights oncall that throw everything off track. Then I…
