Unless you have discovered a way to violate the laws of thermodynamics I would say either you are eating more calories than you think or burning less calories than you think.

Well said mate. Not to mention overweight people generally have poor stamina and endurance. Cardio is great for your heart, lungs and blood flow. Which means any physical activity you do gets easier, from walking to the train station to having way better sex. Seriously guys it is unbelievable, what improved blood flow and…

The excess sodium skews the result in which direction? More body fat or more lean mass? I'll pick Method D for BI and C for tape measure. What did I win Jim?

Melbourne! Anyone else get annoyed by MFP sizing by 'cup'? What the hell is 2 cups of chicken breast?

When a beautiful girl moved into my apartment building. First time I saw her she gave me a big smile and said hello. My mind raced off to us getting married and having kids. Then I came crashing down to Earth when I realised that there is no way I could be naked in front of her after all the weight I have put on over the…

(sorry I didn't realise you were the OP) Now you are backtracking and trying to qualify your blanket point 4 with many if-then-butts. Now you are bringing up things like 1) Me personally 2) Time poor 3) Greater calorie deficit = more lean mass loss (what??) 4) Body gets efficient None or some or all may apply to random…

I agree that diet and exercise are both required in order to succeed in the weight loss. Furthermore you are absolutely correct that monitoring your diet far more important. However that is completely besides the point, which is that the OP is factually incorrect and is essentially spouting broscience "Cardio killz gainz…

So the statement 'Cardio does not add much to the calorie burn for the week' might be true depending on 'context'? I guess the only thing left to do is to call the Nobel Prize committee and tell them to lock in this years Nobel Prize for Physics as the OP and your good self have found a way to violate the Laws of…

Err... what? Cardio sessions do not add "much" to the calorie burn for the week? Hard to take the OP seriously after reading that

You are 18. This comic below might add some perspective

Yeah that's not what's going on hahaha.. Elliptical machines are not born in the wild with the ability to wireless sync with heart rate monitors. You actually have to spend $$$ and buy the model with that feature. That was the first question I asked the gym manager when I got the Polar. None of the cardio equipment in my…
-
I spent $120 on Polar FT7 and have now worn it for the last 11 cardio sessions at the gym. The heart rate on Polar FT7 and the elliptical machine's own handle bar measurement were almost exactly same. Like maybe 1 or 2 beat per minute difference. Calories again surprisingly the elliptical machine was within 5% of the Polar…

Yes it's science. The Laws of Thermodynamics. You cannot create energy out of nothing. The body will have to burn fat stores to make up the shortfall. It can burn muscle mass but if you keep protein high and/or strength train then you shouldn't loose any muscle mass.
-
If you consume less calories then you use in day then you should lose weight. I keep my protein high to maintain muscle mass and that means energy will come from fat stores.

Makes sense thanks!

I see what you mean in that adding 5 workouts give me an extra 2800 calories per week. Thanks for your responses everyone! I got it now :)

Check with your doctor if you should get a prescription for Metformin. It's the main medicine used for type 2 diabetes. It works by lowering glucose production in the liver and lowering blood sugar. In most cases it has the added benefit of aiding weight loss. Speak to your doctor.

I do 3 days x HIIT on the elliptical and 2 days x steady state elliptical. There is so much conflicting information out there - HIIT vs Steady State, Fasted exercise vs Non Fasted. Hard to know what is Bro-Science and what is current best theory/knowledge. Best to hedge your bets and go for wide variety of exercise. I'll…

OP I think you are correct. It worked for me too. Eat smart. Quality not quantity.

Your shoe size will go down.
