My rule is if they don't have a squat rack then i don't bother :)

Start off doing bodyweight squats, then start holding light dumbells untill you can use the olympic bar which is 20kg, then go from there, you can do it! :)

Get a belt if you don't already, a proper powerlifting one not those flimsy leather ones. It really helps keep your lower back position

Started off doing Squatting 5x5 3 times a week and added weight each workout, gave a good base to start

24 pounds is great!, losing weight is never easy for long periods, but the key is consistency to dig deep and in the end you will reach your goals and feel like a new person, very rewarding :)
