  • Allergic to nuts and coconuts? Can you have seeds? Sunflower butter would be good to help you get some calories/fat if you can have seeds. I like to eat it straight out of the jar. :) Also - I know others would probably recommend avocado - though I personally don't care for avocado much. Additionally, I know it sounds…
  • /\/\/\/\/\ THIS! I hated vegetables most of my life.... after switching to this way of life it's because I discovered they weren't being prepared and cooked the best possible way!! My grandmother was of the "extremely low fat diet" crowd, so we always had vegetables boiled w/ out any fats added. Yuck! The great thing about…
  • Agree with this!! However - that 'switch' won't just happen overnight. It took me a good few months of consistently eating Primal/Paleo in order for my body to learn to adapt. I'm a group fitness instructor, and I was really scared to go 'cold turkey' on my pre-workout snack, because as the instructor, 'failure' or being…
  • I've had it a couple days now - and I really like it! I still do the bulletproof recipe w/ a Tbs of MCT oil, about 1 Tbsp of Kerrygold, and I just added in one egg yolk w/ cinnamon and stevia. It has really been filling me up for several hours! One tip, though - I make about 16oz of coffee, and I can't stand lukewarm…
  • There are so many recipes, I wouldn't know where to start!! If anyone starts testing these out, would love if you can report back your findings and recommendations. I'm currently about half-way through a Whole30, but I do plan on making one of these recipes when it's over!
  • Day 11 here! Doing well! I think I had a minor slip yesterday, but it was a little beyond my control.... I ended up not being able to take a lunch break yesterday at work, and so someone offered to go get Chinese food. It was either that, or not eat at all for another 6-8 hours, and I was needing food at that point. I…
  • Damn you, Whole30!! =P
  • I can't praise pure MCT oil enough. The majority of people just use coconut oil, which has a relatively low % of MCT oils in it. I used to make my bulletproof coffee w/ coconut oil and butter, and it was good, but didn't find it did a lot for me. After I bought pure MCT oil, I put a TBS in my coffee, and I felt AWESOME!!…
  • A good recommendation, but the only thing I would caution people to be aware of is to make sure their iodine intake does not drop too low. The amount of iodine in iodized table salt is pretty measly compared to what the body truly needs, but at least it's something. I found when I removed the processed foods from my diet…
  • Does your gym have any weight-lifting/strength-type group classes? I teach Les Mills BodyPump, which is a group class focused on strength training - we lift weights with a barbell and work all the major muscle groups. You might not have this specific program, but I'm willing to bet your gym has something similar (it could…
  • It's day 4 for me today! I have stayed on track so far, no (known) slip ups! I'm getting control of my hunger by eating larger portions of meat at my meals. The sugar cravings (particularly after a meal- i.e. "dessert time" in my mind) are getting stronger and I'm having deceptive thoughts of "oh, just one little bite of…
  • Day 3 today! Day 2 went well - though, I'm starting to wonder if I'm not reaching for fruit too much.... just because it's convenient. Yesterday, I had some dried mulberries (no sugar added) in a 'trail mix'-type snack I made, a handful of strawberries, a Larabar, and a banana. I'm struggling with hunger, and I feel like I…
  • Day 2! Yesterday went well - I struggled with hunger toward the late afternoon/early evening, but I think I didn't quite have enough protein at lunch. Put coconut milk in my coffee this morning, and it was more tolerable. There's a "food day" (AKA sugar/grain pig out) at the office today, so I'm actually excited to be able…
  • Today is my first day! I'll admit, having my coffee black this morning was not very pleasant, but I got over it pretty quickly. :)
  • Thanks, all!
  • I have been struggling a bit with nausea as well lately. I've started doing the Bulletproof intermittent fasting, where I have the bulletproof coffee (with nothing but butter and pure MCT oil) around 7 AM and then I've just been experimenting with how long that will hold me over until. I have found that even though I am…

  • I tried it once, I made it six days! It was a lot harder than I thought, not necessarily struggling with cravings and stuff (though I might not have made it long enough to really get the strong cravings). My issue was finding stuff to eat!! The biggest thing for me was trying to avoid sugars in non-sweet things, such as…
  • As far as deodorant goes, I used to roll my eyes at the "natural" products. I had tried a few of then, including some of the "Jason" brand ones, and still had odor after sweating. However, I happened to receive a sample of the Crystal essence deodorant stick in a gift bag,…
  • Group Fitness Instructor teaching Les Mills programs - BodyPump, BodyCombat, RPM. Also a club DJ sometimes on the weekends. :)
  • This looks delicious - and no sugar! Totally making this tonight.
  • Yes, whey is dairy.... I'm more in the "Primal" camp, so that's why I'm cool w/ it.... but you are absolutely correct, it's tough to find a protein powder that satisfies all of our dietary requirements. There are so many factors to the equation!
  • My thoughts exactly! Did you also see the "Blue #1" artificial food dye?? What the hell? I personally use True Whey from Source Naturals - made from grass-fed cows with a little bit of stevia. It doesn't have a lot of the amino acids that you may be looking for in a post-workout protein powder, but I buy those separately…
  • I second the bacon grease idea! I just chop up a few slices of bacon and throw them in a pan and when they are almost crispy, I throw the kale in (chopped into smaller pieces) to cook w/ the bacon and bacon grease with salt and pepper until it's pretty wilted and starts to turn really dark green. :) Heavenly!!

  • It is slightly labor intensive, but it's the most delicious cup of coffee you'll ever drink, so I think it's worth it now. I don't use a real blender, though, because that really would be a pain in the rear to haul that thing out every morning. I have a hand blender that I ADORE - seriously, this was the best appliance…
  • I bought both varieties at a local store recently, and I was quite disappointed. I think I really had high expectations because of all the rave reviews I'd read. The almond flour one was the better of the two, but it was still very dry and had little flavor. It also didn't seem to toast like real bread, I had to run it…
  • The grass-fed beef I found at Walmart was from Jones Creek Farms, which I just looked up their website http://www.jonescreekbeef.com/ They are located in Utah! Not exactly local for me, but they do say their beef is "all grass, all the time" according to their FAQ. While I will still continue to buy from my local guy…
  • Oh, and Rinkatrun - I'm not an expert, but I believe "finishing" on a cow means whatever they ate the last few weeks/months before slaughter? So, sometimes cows can eat grains their entire lives and then the farmers "finish" them on grass- so I read where you should watch for beef that ONLY says "grass-finished"- it…
  • My husband made burgers out of the ground beef last night, and they tasted great! However, I do have to note that we made the 50/50 bacon burgers from the Paleo Parents (Eat Like a Dinosaur) - so I could have been tasting all the bacon. ;) I also got a sirloin steak, which I plan to cook in the next few days which should…
  • Hubby is Asian, and he makes the best fried rice! I was skeptical of the cauliflower "rice" at first, but I got him to make his fried "rice" using cauliflower, and it was AMAZING!! We've had it 4-5 times now in the span of about a month. :)
  • I, too, was expecting to be "bouncing off the walls" with energy after changing my diet. I think the effect is a little bit more subtle than that. Maybe we just never knew what 'normal' felt like. Though I am certainly not bouncing off the walls, I no longer have to have a caffeine bump in the afternoons just to function…
