  • Mobility, primarily. My dream is to be able to have the energy and fitness to go to Europe, and not feel squished in the seat on the flight. I'm not really concerned about attractiveness because I've found that the people who are worth your time will see beyond your appearance, and I'm very happy with the friends and…
  • Positive reinforcement! Make small, achievable goals and reward yourself (with something other than food). Whether it's a manicure, a haircut, a trip to the movies, a day trip, some new arts/craft supplies, a pair of shoes you've been wanting, etc. I've found that if you're heavy enough that you don't get the reinforcement…
  • This is a CORRELATIONAL study. All it says is that there are people who a) drink diet soda and b) have belly fat. That doesn't mean that diet soda causes belly fat. I've lost 50 pounds (mostly in my stomach) on diet soda!
  • Two weeks isn't enough to judge. You should only be weighing yourself weekly, really. Make sure you're naked, have gone to the bathroom, and haven't eaten.
  • Beef jerky is great for weight loss. Sodium isn't a problem for most people.
  • Your BMR isn't relevant; your TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure) is. There are tons of calculators, but try this one: http://iifym.com/tdee-calculator/ At 5'7/320 and NO exercise AT ALL, your TDEE would be 2600.
  • Of course. Is it healthy to do every day? No. But there's nothing wrong with it once in a while. For pure weight loss purposes, your body doesn't know the difference between a salad and a cheeseburger.
  • That's cool if she's watching sugar, but people use this site for different things. :)
  • My weight can fluctuate by 7 pounds in a day. A month isn't long enough to say that it's "going back and forth." Weigh yourself once a week under the same conditions.
  • 16.5??? That's way, way too low – and studies have shown that being underweight (under 18.5) puts you at a greater health risk than being overweight (25-29.9; not obese, obviously). Please talk to a nutritionist, they'll help you.
  • Hmmmmmm, OP vs. science, OP vs. science...
  • A man should eat 1800 calories MINIMUM.
  • [/quote] So I'm wondering, then, if the days I eat closer to 1,600, I don't have enough of a deficit to actually be on the path to losing weight. I've always heard to eat healthy, and not to worry about counting. MFP has definitely helped me learn about nutrition and counting. But it sounds like I have a lot to learn,…
  • Use a scale! This is the best way to avoid guesswork. Weigh your meat, weigh your bread, weigh your cheese, weight any ingredient that has a lot of calories that you might be prone to underestimating. Grams don't lie.
  • I live with family, actually, so it's pretty communal, people leave things on the table, etc. The problem is that I'm not thinking coherently about it when I do it. I'm half-asleep and I only have a vague memory of snacking when I wake up. I'm not consciously saying, "I want to eat these cookies." I just remember eating…
  • You need to see a psychologist. Anorexia is a mental disorder. A regular MD can provide guidance, but this is a PSYCHOLOGICAL issue that needs to be treated internally as well as externally.
  • Football conversion
  • Canadian dollars
  • If it's a dinner party, ask the host what they're serving before you RSVP if it's a deal-breaker. It shouldn't be, though, honestly. Just eat smaller portions or eat before you go.
  • Also, egg whites kind of defeat the purpose if you're having trouble making your goal... Very low calorie.
  • Four tbsp of creamy Jiff peanut butter = 500 calories. I'm SURE you can eat four tbsp of peanut butter. It's a very small amount of food.
  • Congratulations! That's truly amazing. I would say, though, and I'm pretty sure that your doctor would have agreed.... That at 400 pounds, getting the weight off ANY WAY YOU CAN is priority #1. Ultimately you're going to have to eat healthier, but those pounds are a deathtrap! So to people who are 400 pounds and losing…
  • If you weigh 300+ pounds, your #1 priority is to lose weight. Period. That weight will kill you faster than bad nutrition. For someone who is morbidly obese, it's better to lose 100 pounds eating fast food than to lose 10 pounds eating healthy. Any doctor will tell you that. The weight is the #1 priority. If you're 200…
  • Fat free/low fat everything isn't healthy. Fat is necessary to live. Eat good fats.
  • I have to wonder what's being counted as a "natural flavor." Is Stevia a "natural flavor?" Something has to be making it sweet.
  • Just curious, what fruity-flavored water has no artificial sweeteners AND no calories? I'm guessing it has a sugar substitute that you don't consider "artificial."
  • Nothing. I ate 1700 calories yesterday entirely from two fast food restaurants (including 32oz of regular soda) and was still 400 calories under my goal. Healthy? No, but my doctor says I'll die from obesity before I'll die from eating relatively low-calorie fast food. That said, real milkshakes are really hard to work in.…
  • I really wish low-carb people would stop making concrete, "factual" statements to other people. If low-carb works for you, awesome! But the rest of us can eat pizza regularly and lose weight as long as we stay under our calorie goal!
  • Mountain Dew is fine, honestly. Get the 7.5 ounce cans.
  • If you have BED, I would recommend designating a cheat day with a higher calorie limit, to keep yourself from eating 7,000 calories that "don't count." What's your calorie goal? Add 1,000 calories to it for your cheat day. If your goal is 2000, eat 3000 on your cheat day, and make sure you log it all. Or, better yet,…
