  • What about a city-wide scavenger hunt that sends you both running all over the city and ends in some place fun and healthy for lunch? You'd have to do the leg-work and pre-planning and whatnot, but it could be cool....
  • awwee, I SOOOO wish I lived on the other side of the pond!
  • I'm not sure about fast, but following the recommendations and getting regular exercise are the healthy ways to go. I really noticed the biggest improvement in my weight loss when I started doing interval training for my workouts. It only takes about a week for your body to adapt to doing the same exercise - meaning you…
  • When I trained for a marathon in 2005 I used Preparation H on my feet. Aside from finding it kinda funny every time I used it, the pain meds in the ointment stopped the blisters from hurting and let me build up callouses. You just put it right on the blistered area (works best on a blister that has popped) and rub it in a…
  • I absolutely LOVE all things Lady Gaga. Before I started exercising regularly, I wasn't a huge fan of hers, but now - holy crap. Especially Born This Way - darn near every song on that album is a kickbutt power jam.
  • When you work out, are you doing the same thing every day, or do you jumble things up? I noticed the biggest improvement when I started mixing things up. Our bodies are excellent at getting efficient at doing a task - in something like 2 weeks of the same activity every day, we will use half the calories than the first…
  • Congratualtions!!!!!!!
  • No, I don't use inclince. But I am an out of shape sissy. ;) If incline is what it takes to get your HR up, then go for it. My trainer reminded me that's all about HR, and keeping our bodies from knowing what is coming up next.
  • and stretching with a foam roller helps. It hurts like hell, but it speeds up the release of lactic acid that causes so much pain.

  • keep in mind that, when you work out, you'll also have more energy to do all of your day to day stuff. So you won't want to just pass out on down time. I didn't believe in this til I made my gym time a priority, and then saw my energy levels going up. Took a few weeks, tho.
  • maybe using resistance bands for upper body, and lower body on your good leg? A lot of exercises with a resistance band can be done sitting/laying down.
  • I actually like the Yoplait Strawberry Greek yogurts. They're small size - 4 ounces, which is good for me, because I haven't quite gotten used to the thicker texture of greek yogurt. (weirds me out a little),
  • in season fresh fruits and veggies, in quinoa cooked with lean ground beef. You can survive off of those staples pretty cheaply for months!
  • The only time it bugs me is if someone is stationary and hogging a piece of equipment/machinery so they can stop and text. If you want to text (or talk or whatever) then please MOVE.
  • A digital food scale is best. Mass (measure by a digital scale in ounces or grams) will ALWAYS be more accurate than volume (which is what we measure with cups). Easiest part about the scales - you stick your plate on them, zero out the scale, and then add food. Can't mess it up. =)
  • I absolutely love it!!! I think of it as Facebook, but with a valid purpose (other than looking up people you went to high school with and being glad you are in a better life position than they).
  • Quitting smoking is the toughest!!!! Every once in a while, I still crave one - but I quit drinking all alcohol too, so that's helped LOADS. Hooray to us for taking many small steps to being healthy!!!
  • aawww, that's so cute! (I kid, I kid!!!!!!!!) *ducks shoe thrown through computer*
  • yes, weight can fluctuate 3-7 pounds in 24 hour period. Water weight, waste, too much sodium, can all have an effect. Ergo, the reason why you should only weigh once a week.

  • It looks unanimous....naps are fantastic and everyone should take them!
  • We switched to sea salt too. I've noticed that I need to use less to get good flavor...anyone else same thing?
  • I'd like better info on this too then. I had spoken with the Bio/AP Anatomy teacher here at my school, and he was the one that said 2 liters within 4 hours of salk overload helps flush it out. If anyone has referenced info otherwise, please share. Because I really don't feel like running to go pee every 5 min for nada. =)
  • Try taking 1-2 rest days. I amped up my cardio and felt like I was trying run trhough mud. I took a couple of days off and when I went back, I flew like Superman.
  • You won't get a calorie count pn MFP for weight training at all. I use a HRM to keep track of my calories burned, and I created a Strength training cardio excercize to keep track of it all.
  • I just bought a Polar FT4 and it was the best $100 I every spent. Read my blog - the machines at the gym were OVER reporting my calories burned on my cardio by, like 20 percent, not to mention that I had no clue how much I was burning when I do my strength training. The Polar FT4 also has a chest strap. I purchased mine on…
  • I stopped losing for 2 months solid - even gained a pound back! - until I ADDED more calories. I usually have a complex carb/protein snack after working out, even if I don't really feel hungry enough tto eat back all of my calories burned. Something like 1 tablespoon of PB on OroWheat Thins and an apple or a banana. As…
  • I love this idea!!! My favorite colors in general are bright and vivid jewel tones; think emerald green, bright turquoise, magenta, royal purple, sunset orange. For me, these colors really get my brain going, and I think the right hue (warm or cool) looks AMAZING on any skin tone. Personally, I'm on the cool side - blues,…
  • My doctor and trainer say yes. Here is the science behind the logic - as muscles use glycogen, they produce lactic acid as a waste by product. While it IS good to work muscles when they are a sore and stiff, one rest day a week allows your body the time that it needs to repair the tears that occur in the muscle fiber as a…

  • I would try increasing/changing your activity before you start cutting calories. Maybe your body has gotten used to whatever routine you are doing and its time to shake things up a bit.
